ONE STEP AT A TIME………..

I am having a hard time even doing that these days!

I have to admit I am not getting the knack of this new format.

I need someone sitting here holding my hand.

When you think about it we have had zero lessons in computer science.

The first time I used a computer was in the 1980’s.The screens were bright green!

Ruined my eyes as I needed glasses.

I have never worn READERS.

Did try the BLUE LIGHT GLASSES for the computer screen.

Asked two different eye doctors about that and was told thats a FARCE!

A complete marketing scheme.

How is a company allowed to do that?

Then again HOW IS AN EX-PRESIDENT ALLOWED TO RUN AGAIN WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY COURT CASES AGAINST HIM?

Keep your THOUGHTS to yourself I do not want to hear about any of that!

Let’s keep it simple and COLORFUL here!

Some days I even MARVEL at myself how an outfit comes together.

You gotta LOVE COLOR to visit my wardrobe!

Leggings AMAZON

Dress BRYN WALKER

I should give you the link but I’m too lazy!

Everything is old except the shoes they might still be available!

How do you shop?

Do you shop from catalogs, stores or on-line for the most part?

It has changed in the last few years…….

I can remember them saying BRICK AND MORTAR SHOPS would be a thing of the past in our LIFETIME!

I didnot believe them!

BUFFOON I AM!

FANTASTIC PEONY!

THEY JUST KEEP ON GIVING!

GREENS FROM MY GARDEN!

TASTE IS FLAVORFUL.

Unlike those bags and boxes we find the lettuces in today!

I AM HOPING WE CAN GROW THIS YEAR ROUND!

ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO I TOLD YOU I WAS IN HEART FAILURE!

I CONTINUE TO BE, BUT AM ON PILLS NOW TO STRENGTH THE HEART.

IT’S A SLOW PROCESS.

TOO SLOW ACTUALLY BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER ISSUES………..

THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN WITH ME FOR AWHILE ARE IN THE KNOW!

1.LUNGS = MAC

2. BRAIN = FOCAL SEIZURES

3.HEART= FAILURE

I DO NOT WISH THIS MESS ON ANYONE!

A DEATH SENTENCE is NOT SOMETHING TO DWELL ON!

BELOW I WENT TO LUNCH WITH ANOTHER BLOGGER!

IT WAS A CASUAL AFFAIR.

SHE WARNED ME SHE WOULD BE IN EXERCISE CLOTHING BUT WOULD HAVE HER REAR COVERED!

SHE HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR!

SO, I CAME BACK WITH” I SHALL WEAR JEANS!”

TWO CHERRIES FROM THE CHERRY TREE

WERE SAMPLED AND CONSUMED BY THE ITALIAN AND ME!

I keep moving forward but not with BIG STEPS……….

My day started with a message from the UK seems a TV CASTING AGENCY is interested in me!

THAT PUT A SKIP IN MY DAY!

I TOLD THEM NO but it still made me smile!

I tried to make a LASAGNA this morning and screwed up the béchamel sauce!

I forgot the FLOUR!

My back is killing me from ALL THE STANDING AND STIRRING!

DO you know how much a LASAGNA costs to make these days?

Well two of them actually and RAGU left over for pasta sauce………

Hello Elizabeth,
First let me comment on the computer…I feel the same way. When I or should I say the tech person migrated my blog over over 11 years from blogger to WordPress I felt as if I was learning to read all over again.
Now that I have the hang of the blog the plugins are driven me crazy, it seems as if you need one for everything.
Enough Tech talk.
I am sorry you are having a hard time with your back and walking. Take it one day and one step at a time that is all you can do. You are in my prayers.
I haven’t made lasagna in a year, I do not even want to think of the cost. It is ridiculous how much staple items for the kitchen cost.
Speaking of which, I was thinking of your when I read an article recently about the cost of pasta in Italy. They are calling for a boycott of pasta in the next week to force the manufactures to lower the prices.
Love seeing snippets of your garden.

I love all of your COLOR! One good step at a time is all anyone can do in a day. And your garden and photos are amazing. Love that you have cherry trees. My special place in Tuscany has them on the property, as well. The wildlife sure do love them. Ciao for now.

So concerned about you… the no energy part is such a terrible thing to contend with. Every task, even small ones, take such a toll. I had Lyme disease years ago in CT and remember feeling so tired all the time and had young children. Hope and pray w/ the right meds this fog will be lifted and you will be able to do the everyday things w/o exhaustion. Absolutely adore your garden photos… THAT PEONY!!! THOSE CHERRIES!!!! Looking at the photo I remembered I had a beach hat when I was little with 2 cherries pinned to it : ) The long ago forgotten memories that can surface from a photo are so interesting. Adore your colors… I think of you like the artist with her palette board…so many colors to choose from in your closet!! About the casting call. Where have they been all these years??!! A long time ago they should have come to you and filmed in your home… it would have been a ratings lollopalooza!! Sending love and all good thoughts… XOXO

Just this morning I was thinking back to the late 80s when a friend was doing a website for a local realtor. The goal was to have prospective clients be able to “tour” the house online. At the time, I thought that was such a dumb idea. People want to see a house for themselves, not pictures on something called the “world wide web.” Silly me! So to answer your question, no, I didn’t think there would come a time when I would buy my cosmetics, shoes, underwear, and clothes… some very expensive… without trying them on, but I do. Other than finding the right shade of concealer and makeup base, I don’t remember the last time I went to a store to look for clothes. Stay strong, dear friend. You’ve got this! Love, Brenda

I always love your posts and I’m so sorry you are having all these health issues. Your garden is amazing and your wardrobe reminds me of your beloved mother. I loved her style. Hugs, LA CONTESSA. LOVELY day in the garden. Thank you for sharing all of the goodies growing about. Those cherries look delectable.
I adore all the color you wear. Today I wore turquoise with bright pink trim, athletic shorts with an indigo colored yoga top and a bright pink (light cotton) cardigan over top. I felt very sunny and optimistic as I went out for my walk. The pony tail finished the look.
I love your golden colored leggings mixed with the green kaftan. So pretty. I would love to walk through your closet.
I mostly shop in person in live stores because I like to try things on and make sure they fit me properly. On line shopping is too risky in my opinion as it’s too easy to overspend and then get things that don’t suit.
You turned down a role in a television project? Well, maybe better to rest up. Glad you are on medication for your heart. But sorry you are not feeling so energetic. You LOOK fabulous though, as do your peonies.

Beautiful flowers. Flowers bring such joy. My blooms are few in my yard. Mainly geraniums, yarrow and lavender—my weather not warm enough but love the few I have in my yard. Always enjoy your blog. Have a good weekend.

How MARVELOUS for a U.K. show…even if you said no. A grand story, and big kudos too.
Your garden is marvelous, and cherries were a wow. You are so talented, and have no doubt 10 green fingers.
Fires in Canada(feel so bad for those in Canada breathing the toxic air)have made our area under a haze that is toxic too. Back to masks, and very limited time outside. The temperature is marvelous, and such a shame we cannot sit out. CODE RED here. But soon, and will try and get more things planted. So envious of your garden.
Keep smiling, and getting your wonderful outfits on. That too makes one feel so much better I know. Thinking of you….

  This is my season SPRING!The garden then takes a total TWIST of the not so BEAUTIFUL!We have sun today and was out side clipping and watering!It does a body good to be OUTSIDE as YOU KNOW!

Always a treat when we get to see your latest blog post with the beautiful array of pictures. I love how your garden and your home reflects your colorful style and personality! The yellow, green and orange outfit looks like a lovely rainbow sherbet. You and your Italian have created such a beautiful garden sanctuary – it is good for the soul. I didn’t realize you had a cherry tree – how great to have your own organic ones growing right at home. I haven’t bought any yet this year but I will looks for some this weekend.
On another note – casting call from the UK – wow that doesn’t happen every day! I haven’t made a lasagna for a while but I imagine with the cost of all ingredients being so high it is pretty $$. I just made stuffed shells with spinach and ricotta last night – it had been a while and they were so good.
I have a few shops that I like to buy clothes in person, otherwise I have been ordering online but it seems like lately I return more than I keep. But I do love it when I open up the package and they fit and actually look good!

Contessa! So fun to be out in the wild with you … wearing jeans! Looking smashing still … and the duster is caftan-esque. Looking out the window now I assume you are feeling similarly … another dreary day. How will our plants ever bloom? My hydrangeas are LATE … as we used to say back in the day. ? As for computers … just as we master something, it gets ‘upgraded’ and we have to learn it all over again. Always keeps us guessing … and frustrated. So sad about the brick and mortar stores. I’m still reeling over closure of NM and now J.Crew. But I am part of the problem … ordering online. Sigh. xo

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog. Love your life style and certainly your comments. Love your fabulous garden. I am on the east coast where everything grows smaller!! I, too, have CHF (but with AFib) since 2020. Meds certainly help but so does a really low salt diet. A physical therapist keeps all things moving and I exercise regularly. Most days are good. I also have wonderful doctors and world renowned facilities close by. Don’t Dispair. Just met someone who has had this since 2002 and is doing great.

I used to shop entirely at brick & mortar, but now use whatever it takes to get great clothes, and what I like. Thrift stores are fun too! You are an inspiration. Take care,

  I HAVE AFIB TOO……..HAVE HAD FOR YEARS ALONG WITH A MITRAL VALUE PROLAPSE.SURGERY IN 2010 SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THAT BUT BUT BUT!!I HAVE CUT OUT ALL SALT in the last three months.Of course there is salt in everything but I do a good job of not eating it!That was probably the easiest thing I ever gave up!Last night our neighbor made FOCACCIA.I stole a bite size bite without zeroing in on the sea salt on top!OH MY GOD it was so GOOD!So YES I CHEAT once in awhile………..
  I find it hard to exercise and basically have STOPPED MOVING!I know its not good but home alone and passing out is not what I want to see happen as I will split my head OPEN on brick floors………..
  Let’s hope we are around for YEARS TO COME.I know LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS.so, the DEATH SENTENCE needs to be moved aside and we MUST CONTINUE ON!

Your garden photos are GORGEOUS! As a fellow gardener, I revel in their beauty!
I enjoy seeing all your bright outfits. I make an effort to do the same thing! Colorful clothes, flowers, people, make me smile!
Oh shopping… used to be such a fun activity. Nowadays I shop online, I watch Fashion Distraction on Instagram and sometimes a friend and I go see what’s new at TJMAXX.

Hi Elizabeth! I love that your colorful clothing combos work so beautifully with your garden. What striking close-up shots of the rose and peony, the mixed greens as well. I am a jeans girl, so liked seeing you wear those too.
Good info about the blue computer glasses, I’d wondered about those, now I’ll skip them. My first computer use was at an early job with Pacific Bell, around 1983-84. Prior to that, we were using microfiche (I started in 1980)!
Online shopping has become my go-to for clothes and shoes. I like being able to specify what I’m looking for, then look through the choices and try them at home. Of course then there are returns!
I hope your progress with the heart failure and other issues will go forward and that medications continue to help in the right direction. I so appreciate you bringing us your blog, in spite of the challenges and frustrations. You’re doing great with it!

When I come to visit Sausalito, I hope to meet you for lunch. I can wear jeans? That would be great.
As you know, I relate to your heart health. Mine inherited. Not so much of a surprise. More time to process as I have aged.
Above reader is correct… focus on the good avoid all negative., when possible. Truly is the very best medicine. Up and down days are normal. It’s an emotional roller coaster. But that garden and home is your refuge from stress.
What does lasagna cost. At least twenty pounds a serving!
Shopping is becoming more on line, as brick and mortar, as you state is disappearing.

I shop local…small brick and mortar shops…I am a dinosaur I know but I love to touch and feel the garments, try them on…lands’ end is my only exception and it’s because they offer petites in certain styles that I cannot buy here in our small city.
Which BTW I heard is one of the most beautiful and livable in North America!
Housing costs are through the roof but I do think it’s a pretty city.
Hope the meds are helping…spending time in your gorgeous garden, harvesting lettuce, smelling the roses and a lunch out with a friend sound like a tonic to me.

When I open my email and see that you’ve posted it makes me happy! I love your blog. Your photography, your point of view, your wardrobe, your house and garden, your pets and your life style are delightful!

I hope the new meds work and you get your strength back. Don’t give up advocating for yourself. About six years ago a veterinarian told us our Maltese dog wouldn’t live another year because of congestive heart failure. We changed vets and started a regimen of medications and within 6 months she was significantly better! She’s going strong at over 18 years old! The drugs can work miracles if you find the right combination.??

I hope that your heart med is effective and you are feeling well again.
I like to buy clothing in-person – but if I am familiar with the brand (sizing, quality and fit), I happily will order it online. So many nice basics are online only – like tees, pajamas, socks, shoes, etc.
My favorite lasagne recipe is Ina Garten’s in her Barefoot Contessa cookbook (with turkey/chicken sausage and goat cheese).
Don’t worry about that guy running for Pres again, he’d never win (and he’s up to his eyeballs in legal trouble).

Grew up, Houston, TX, shopping at Galleria, & Sakowitz across the street. Showing my AGE !

Living in rural middle Georgia now, loving its beauty/simplicity/people/depth. Have time to LIVE, not in traffic for hours a day. Complete lack of clothing stores….of little concern here.

Am the girl on 5 acres, next to dairy farm, with ca. 1900 home. Not far, a fancy lake, Ritz, golf, restaurants, mansions as 2nd or 3rd or 4th homes. Only mention because it makes our Thrift store a DELIGHT…..furniture/kitchen/clothes & sometimes good ART.

For clothing specifics…………….it’s online. A client turned me on to Woolx, ethical wool clothing. Hahaha, 11′ ceilings in my house……winter not for the faint of heart inside! The coal fireplaces quite working decades ago…………well ahead of my tenure.

At night, winter, flannel pants, thermal top with one of mom’s cashmere sweaters, a client’s organically raised wool socks, wool gator, wool beanie….. Have loved Art Films from forever. Never thinking the opportunity for the lifestyle would be plopped on me. Wouldn’t change a thing.

    Dear Elizabeth.. this post is BEAUTIFUL! The colours and photos gorgeous! You always make me smile when reading!! I hardly shop for any new clothes… my closet is bursting because I keep everything good, and I NEED nothing! I bought two gorgeous dresses from Anne Fontaine on line last year and haven’t had them on due to health issues… frustrating.. but I seem to be on a tangent of ill health lately… like you! We are resilient and will keep soldiering on! So excited for you to get such amazing agent calls… so fabulous, which YOU are!! I too keep cooking, being Italian!! If you want to eat, you have to cook!! Take out just doesn’t cut it for me, or mine!! I keep it simple but fresh and basically cook like my mother.. pasta, fish, salads and hearty soups and one pan oven roasted meals.. we should collaborate and do a cookbook… when we are both better!! Don’t despair .. my friend was diagnosed with heart failure 4 years ago and the meds worked wonders and he is good as gold again.. keep your lovely posts coming.. they are so fun and beautiful to see! What a gorgeous garden you have; those flower pictures took my breath away.
Where do I shop? Embarrassed to say, on-line. We are currently taking care of and living with my 102 YO mother. In order to get anywhere we have to jump in the car and drive a long distance to shop; it’s such a waste of gas. the Because stores can only stock a certain amount of commodities so on-line works for me.

I know cooking is expensive these days but the taste is so much better. I know what you mean about the prep work while standing up and your body starts aching. Yesterday I made “rice balls” – a Japanese snack. I had to set up the assembly line on the kitchen table so I could SIT ! I even had running shoes on to give me more support while standing, but I still get lower back pain. It seems I always have to do yoga stretches after I cook.

Please take care of yourself, it pains me to read about your health problems, but please don’t take that as a sign for you to stop telling us. You give very useful medical information!

P.S. where do I shop? Mostly in shops because I like to see and touch it and try on. But with reputable companies such as piedaterre etc. gladly online with good experiences. But in general I don’t trust online companies.

Where do I shop? Well, you know me. I refuse to shop on Amazon ever since learning that their main business sin’t selling stuff, rather it’s collecting all of our data and then selling it. You’d think oh, what does it matter, but every click you make is valuable to the data collectors. And, what do we get, targeted emails, targeted news, and stores closing in our towns.

So, I’m very much an in-person shopper, although I do sometimes order from L.L. Bean or other catalogs. But, for me, the convenience of on-line doesn’t make up for the fact that stores are closing and people are losing their jobs. I guess I’m old school in that way.

I have been shopping a lot on Amazon. Some great pieces really casual. I also scored an amazing pair of slip on Blk patten Mary-Jane by Jimmy Choo and never worn! There is an amazing band of crystals as the strap and the strap is removable.

We have an amazing consignment store filled with high end beauties. These happen to be marked down to $117.00 cnd from $1, 100.00 cnd. For all of you in the US our current exchange rate is 1.36—- to buy US dollars. So these would basically be free for you.
PS our Nordstroms is closing and had huge mark downs. 70% off.

I have also bought a number of pairs of Jeans, as retirement has changed my wardrobe selections.
Heading to our cottage in Lake of The Woods Ontario, for 4 months so picking the appropriate things to take. I always take way too much but you never know if there is a dinner dance at the Royal Lake of the Woods yacht club !! Hey I could pack my new shoes!!!!!!

Oh and I also got some slip on Native shoes! A Vancouver company and fantastic shoes for getting in and out of the boat and you can even wear them in the water. I will have to leave my Chanel ballet flats at home and slip on some Berkinstocks; also purchased two new pair black and tan Arizona’s with large buckets.

God am I turning into an earth Mother!! Not!
