IMG_4657This was a FUN outing for myself and dear friend JENNY!

HIGH STYLE came to SAN FRANCISCO recently and it was hoot to see.

Those tiny tiny waists and the SHOES!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GLORY……….I really wanted the case the SHOES traveled in.

IMG_4671

ISN’T THIS JUST LOVELY?

IMG_4672

I have already forgotten the DESIGNER but I thought this too was A STUNNER!I can remember my MOTHER had a dress with these colors……..

IMG_4669

This neckline………..PLEASE somebody make this into a white shirt TODAY.Note the pocket too at the waist!

IMG_4670_2

Simple yet so elegant……………

IMG_4668_2

MORE GOWNS…………….I think I am in love with the coat.

IMG_4666

LOOK a MOVIE called THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA 1954.I need to see this…………

Do you think THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA of today got her name from this movie?

Then there is the question how I got my Contessa name……….!

I gave it to Myself.

After seeing how a REAL CONTESSA lived down the hill from us in an old stone farmhouse.

She had LOST most everything………..BUT yet had it ALL.

I admired her and her CANADIAN husband………………

I really wanted HER LIFE.Farmhouse, dogs,land and a bit of a view…..

IMG_4665

There I am snapping away………….can you see me in the reflection?

IMG_4664_2

A Dress for the GARDENER……….with seed packets!!!!!!!!!ANITA, this photo I took for YOU!It’s even your favorite color!!!!

IMG_4660_2

THE GORGEOUS SHOES.

IMG_4659

LOOK AT THESE HEELS……………..The STYLE CRONE and a few others I can think of would look SMASHING in these today!

IMG_4658_2

This shoe looks like it is from TODAY 2015!For some reason it reminds me of an OPERA HOUSE with BALCONY seats!!

IMG_4663_2

THE SHOE CASE for TRAVELING………………………I ADORE IT!

IMG_2390

ME LOVING HOW THEY displayed this PHOTO!My friend ERIC C. would know how to do this!

IMG_4673

A PEONY from my garden……………….THE FIRST!

IMG_4676

IMG_4681_2

A ROSE…………………..GOLDEN CELEBRATION.

IMG_4684_2MY latest addition……………WHITE EDEN a CLIMBER.This is MY HIGH STYLE for now………………the GARDEN will keep me on my toes, in my balcony seat deadheading and weeding……….and trying to think of something else to share with YOU ALL!!!

Did any of YOU try the RAGU sauce?

    Dear Contessa –
Those dresses look like couture sculptures! Beautiful!! My favorite is the garden dress with the seed packets – what a sense of humor! Love it 🙂 I’d love a garden smock or apron like it. I’d wear it even when I’m not gardening.
    Cheers

I love that you take advantage of these wonderful exhibits in SF!! The workmanship and style of these vintage clothes are incredible; could do without the balcony seat shoes but I agree, I’d take the shoe case in a second! You’ve got Ava and that Italian contessa all beat; you have the most fantastic life with your home & garden and Italian Husband and Gorgeous Animals!! Lovely post!~

Why not write about the Contessa in Italy and tell us about her: how you met, how she dressed, how they lived, decorated, etc and why she is an inspiration to you? Thanks.

I will give that some thought Elliot…………….thank you for your comment. It was 24 years ago………..outside of Florence, Italy where we lived on top of a hill.To reach our home we had to pass HER home……..much older stone house with barking German Shepards. She was a neighbor and that is how my husbands family knew her.She lived in an old ITALIAN FARMHOUSE which was my DREAM to own.

Oh Elizabeth darling, the red coat is so you, and I can see you wearing it in France as well.
As for the Contessa name you have yourself, I was charmed by your fun and character when I first met you now years ago. Falling in love with your sense of adventure in all you do, from home style, to all you gather and collect, to running off and peaking through windows at missing Renee at her Santa Barbara home, wishing I were with you to experiance her home once again. The size of her Lemoms on her vintage trees just blew me away, and all her wonderful salvage in the gardens remind me of your passion for your gardens.

As for the contessa in the wonderful farm cottage, I am sure she is honored that you wear that name Contessa well. She is flattered I am sure… I have not yet met a more delightful contessa as you my sweet friend.
Loved visiting your posting, and was thinking I could dress up in a few of these frocks myself, 🙂

MAYBE someday WE can meet up there!

As for white shirts with that neckline, google Anne Fountaine.

    CONTESSA DEAR!!!!!!!

    Here I am.

I spent a lush morning in the garden with the Mr. We pruned and made our vines nice and tidy and the wrens are singing, the boxwoods are SO green and puffy and I am happy! AND….that dress with the seed packs! THANK YOU! LOVE IT and these gowns….OK, I KNOW that you are like me in that I’d wear these somewhere. No problem. The styles are so tastefully done, simple yet elegant as you say. And those shoes? MY GOODNESS how did you even manage to breathe seeing all of this? :))) I remember the first time I went to Tiffany’s in NYC. I literally got light-headed from all the excitement. This is a show stopper and I wish I’d been there. What a fun day.

I have not tried the Ragu yet; after our romp in Carmel, I will get my basil in a pot out in the garden and away I go making all my favorite Italian sauces. Oh my friend, thank you for this fun post! Anita
