AGELESS STYLE………..

April 24, 2017 103 Comments

WELCOME to AGELESS STYLE where CINDY HATTERSLEY and I will interview another BLOGGER or INSTAGRAMMER to share with YOU our READERS the epitome of AGELESS STYLE.

I had to GOOGLE AGELESS STYLE and this is what I FOUND!

A G E L E S S :

  1.  not growing old or showing the effects of age

  2. 2:  timeless,  eternal ageless truths

What does AGELESS STYLE MEAN?

THAT’S WHAT I REALLY WANTED TO KNOW!

Who says you can’t wear a full-length leopard print coat or high street in your seventies? Model Jan de Villeneuve reveals the secrets to timeless style……………

“It shouldn’t be about clothes for an older woman, we just need nice clothes,” says Jan de Villeneuve. The 72-year-old model has inadvertently become the poster girl for the anti-ageism movement in fashion, thanks to her appearances on the catwalk at London Fashion Week last month. Advocates of ageless style couldn’t have found a better ambassador.”

Then YOU have me in my CONTESSA CURTAIN COATS who at almost 57 would LOVE TO OWN a full length LEOPARD PRINT COAT!!!INstead,I have had coats made out of old curtains!!!I had the POCKETS MADE BIG to GATHER the HENS EGGS.I did not want to go down to the coop and scold myself for forgetting the basket……..you see I wander the garden in the cool summer mornings and enjoy visiting with THE GIRLS.They are always happy to see me!

Of course my IMAGE conquers up THE IDEA of FOOD!

But thats another TOPIC!

For another DAY!

TODAY WE TALK ABOUT AGELESS STYLE!

LET ME Introduce my Friend CINDY HATTERSLEY. She writes a blog called

Cindy, was able to meet BANKSY and hear him SCREAM as he got caught between the fence and the Jacuzzi!

Need the CURTAIN COAT pattern. Have 2 style curtains, both lined, from my grandma, one an incredible 30’s chinoiserie on linen, and the other a neo-Mario Buatta English floral chinoiserie chintz, probably ca. 70’s.

Decided not to move with them. Yep, last thing I did, box them up, onto the moving truck they went !! Still in box, 2 years later. They are gorgeous.

Love Cindy so much. For me Cindy is so generous and kind that she could wear a potato sack and no one would notice. With her beautiful smile and her wonderful sense of self Cindy is the real, new “woman of a certain age” that we all strive to be. Rare and unique to be sure and gracious in her approach to others. Her interiors are amazing and she shares a love and talent for the garden and outdoors as well. Others talk about it, Cindy does it. We are very lucky she shares and inspires us with her blog.

    Cindy just gets it.

Thanks for sharing your interview with CH and I really enjoyed her interview of YOU Contessa!

So inspiring! Right now I’m into wearing white, which I had avoided for years because I have young boys. Now that they are getting older I’m going to try to pull it off. I’m going to be 40 this summer and reading this makes me excited to take my style to the next level, which for me means remembering to throw on some jewelry or bright lipstick. Elizabeth has shown me it’s in the details… Like a pretty nail polish color or a bright hair piece. Love this post!

ADORE your ageless philosophy… writing children’s books has kept me feeling this way… anything that inspires the soul is wonderful tonic (to which I add some gin at 5:00) to fend off the aging process. (I am NOT over the curtain coat… I think it should be a specialty line for LITTLE girls to BIG girls… could be called ‘Banksy’s Curtain Coats’ or ‘Coop Coats’… many moons ago there used to be matching mother-daughter dresses…this would be fabulous in curtain coats!! Ooo La La!!)

Well my favorites were from the Gap and of course they have discontinued them. There are similar ones at lands end and eddie bauer. For a fuller more flattering tee I like Wilt…have you tried them?
You can get them at Nieman’s last call often on sale …I like you am not tall so some of the other’s wear me.

Hello, Girls. A good topic: The Perfect T-shirt. I am what you might term,
“a fabric feeler” as I stroll through clothing departments. It is seldom that I pause for a better feel. It has to be just the right feel or blend. I like my t-shirts that I wear under a jacket to be not too heavy, scratchy or too short. The thiner weaves are more comfortable and often found at Target. The GAP was great with cotton but the blends have changed.
Would like to hear when someone finds the Perfect T.

Regarding Opera coats …. This got my wheels turning as to why we don’t source Hong Kong anymore… I lived in the Philippines for awhile and had sev. trips to HK. And a wonderful Filipina seamstress who came every Sat. She could finish a formal full- length, lined evening coat in one day. I am amazed just recalling this. I could buy the Chinese silks in bulk pkgs at the Navy Exchange and the local girls were expert dressmakers. And I would need to keep Lonnie employed as she came weekly. I would do a quick sketch of what I wanted or show her a picture and she could beautifully duplicate it. In ONE day. Ready to wear that night. It was a fairy tale that did come true. We were all happy. So my question is … why don’t we look into having garments
made in HK as men still have their tailored shirts still made there. Beautiful workmanship.
Does anyone have the answer to this? I know. I know. Import tax?? The world has changed but I am an optimist!

So happy to hear the the medication if helping, fingers crossed you do not have any more episodes.

I love Cindy and have followed her for years. How nice that you were able to interview one another. I am headed to her blog to read about you.

I could no agree more about finding clothes that work for your body type, make you happy and look good on you. After all that is what it is about, YOU! I am a classic dresser, once in a while I will buy something trendy but not too often. Typically when I do it is in a color that I would never have worn but as I age I find myself drawn to bold colors. They make me smile.

Have a wonderful day beautiful Elizabeth.

    Dearest contessa,

Happiest news is to hear that you have gone 35 days without an episode. No diagnosis? Seems strange but maybe you haven’t gone to The Mayo Clinic, yet.

Totally agree with Cindy about finding your style and sticking with it. First off, neither gray nor black are my colors. I have peaches and cream skin with golden hazel eyes so must stick with warm tones no matter how old I get. When I finally go completely gray, I will have my hair tinted a warm, beige blonde. Why wear black if it makes you look like an old, mobster’s widow? My go-to darkest color is a deep marine blue. Always wear gold jewelry – never silver or pewter. Always have something gold in my clothes – on buttons, in a necklace or in a scarf. I like St. John and Ralph Lauren. For casual wear, I would rather look like I just stepped off the golf course than look like a geriatric college student (jeans and t-shirt with a message). One rule I think everyone should consider is never to wear a white that is whiter than your teeth.

Get laser vision correction. If you need cataract surgery, great news! The basic replacement lens will eliminate your need for glasses and is paid for by Medicare! Nothing makes you look old like a pair of glasses, especially when hung around your neck on a chain. Another suggestion is to get a nice pair of sunglasses with Polarized lenses. This keeps you from squinting and helps to prevent wrinkles around the eyes. ($100 to $200 for a beautiful pair of sunglasses is MUCH less invasive and expensive than BOTOX.)

Fingers crossed for a “cure” for whatever your malady turns out to be.

    Hugs, Carol

Cindy is SO chic! I think of her as having a “timeless” style, which I tend to think of as being classic. (Like her icon, Diane Keaton, while still with an individual flair.)

And YOU, Contessa, look marvelous in that opera coat!

You are right that it’s a small world because I already follow Rough Luxe, based on a comment someplace, or her being on somebody’s blog roll. 🙂
Cindy seems to be channeling Carolina Herrera in that wonderful formal shirt/skirt combo. I think Carolina Herrera–what she wears herself even more than what she puts on the runway–is a great role model.
I love her hair, both the cut and the color. Mine is just starting to get some grays, and transitions are so hard. I ran into an acquaintance at a huge wine fair recently, and I spotted her in the throng thanks to her snow-white hair. She resembles Cindy a lot, though her hair is even shorter. Very chic, every time I see her, in that effortless je ne sais quoi French way, usually wearing something practical like menswear yet radiating femininity.
Much like you, in that last photo, with the men’s tuxedo shirt. Your ballerina training shows plainly. You are lucky you are tall; a men’s shirt on me would be a long dress.
I love the very idea of an opera coat, and this one is beautiful. The turned-back cuffs are perfection.
What is a fur clip? I can’t make it out in the picture.

I AGREE CH Is CINDY’s CLONE!
AND LOOK Those are her initials TOO!!!!!!
A FUR CLIP is a vintage rhinestone metal bit that kept the fur closed,ON INSTAGRAM I think one can ZOOM in?BY putting your fingers on the photo and spreading outward…………
Duettes were combinations of a pair of dress or fur clips clipped into a metal frame with a brooch type finding (pin stem) so that you could wear the clips separately or combine them into a large piece and use it as a brooch. Sometimes the metal frames were decorative so that you could wear the frame by itself; these are rarer than the conventional duettes. Mechanisms were even made to house three and even four items and are quite rare. Most duette patents date to the mid to late 1920’s and duettes themselves were sold well into the 1950’s.XX

      Hello, “Girls” and welcome Cindy.
Nice to wake up to such good news about your feeling better, Contessa, and the wonderful partnership here.
I want to say that I feel GRAY IS THE NEW BLACK. I have a friend who was a movie star and always beautiful. Two years ago, she went through cancer treatment, lost her hair and fortunately it came in gray. She is one of the most stunningly beautiful women I know today. Her hair is long, healthy, straight and with beautiful make she is a stunner. I am hooked on the “bottle” (hair color that is!) but considering ‘transitioning’ … hair color that is!… Love to you both. Keep it coming…
