You see their house escaped the FIRE,but the RAINS brought the MUD and BOULDERS crashing down upon this tiny enclave of GORGEOUS HOMES!Her house was NOT TOUCHED but HER guest cottage (MY ROOM)

GOT MUD!

The car left behind in the GARGAE was SIDEWAYS when they were able to get back to take a look.

They will be out of their HOUSE for awhile as the MUD and BOULDERS have to be removed shovel by shovel…….

I am SO THANKFUL they left when an EVACUATION NOTICE was ADVISED!

This was BEYOND!

It had velvet curtains inside with the MOST DELICIOUS CANDLESTICKS!

How many of YOU get this LOVE I have for this FOLLY and CANDLESTICKS?

A FOLLY Is a a costly ornamental building with no practical purpose, especially a tower or mock-Gothic ruin built in a large garden or park.

NO PRACTICAL PURPOSE says it all……………..

I did manage to say,”DO YOU LIVE PART TIME IN Los Angeles?”He said, “YES!”I told him he had a BEAUTIFUL FAMILY………..(He has SEVEN CHILDREN!)He said, “THANK YOU!”…….I still had time because I BOUGHT FOUR BOOKS!SO,my LAST STAB at making a GOOD IMPRESSION was “I am VERY PROUD of YOUR NEPHEWS!”

With that he had finished and HE LOOKED UP AT ME AND GAVE ME A GENUINE SMILE and said, “THANK YOU!”

I was HAPPY with MYSELF and felt content even though they did not let MARY take the photos!A volunteer had to take it and I only GOT THIS ONE!

THE FACT I MET PRINCESS DIANA’s BROTHER was my WHOLE REASON for GOING to be HONEST!

But thought you would like to see him in ACTION!He never sat nor did he read from cards…………OUR PRESIDENT SHOULD TAKE NOTE!

He was a FUNNY MAN and seems VERY DOWN TO EARTH…….THAN AGAIN his SISTER WAS TOO!

I think WE all remember where we were on that DAY AUGUST 31,st when she DIED!

I WAS BUILDING A WALL WITH THE ITALIAN IN OUR SIDE YARD!

(TO KEEP THE DIRT IN PLACE AND HAVE A VESSEL FOR PLANTS!)

Before the LECTURE I felt a TAP on my SHOULDER…………

ANOTHER FOLLOWER of MY BLOG and INSTAGRAM!

ANISSA WAS ADORABLE AND HAD just driven in from DALLAS the night before!

AGAIN I was STUNNED and SO SO TOUCHED by the ENCOUNTER!

IN the afternoon I had the privilege to hear A PANEL of well known DECORATORS discuss their business and HOW they GO ABOUT helping their clients………..

YOUR HOME IS YOUR STORY:REFINING YOUR SENSE OF PLACE.

This panel included STACEY BEWKES,TIMOTHY CORRIGAN,SUSANNA SALK,BETH WEBB,and RICHARD KEITH LANGHAM.

I was LUCKY enough to meet TIMOTHY CORRIGAN about 4 years prior at another ANTIQUE EVENT.The other LADIES I have just heard about or READ ABOUT as they are BIG in the DESIGN WORLD!

I actually sat across from STACEY,SUSANNA and TIMOTHY at BREAKFAST the morning of the TALK!

As we left to go I couldn’t HELP myself and POPPED in at THEIR TABLE!

MR. CORRIGAN who owns a CHATEAU in FRANCE and if you do not have the BOOK GO GET IT!It is called AN INVITATION TO CHATEAU DU GRAND~LUCE. HE was so nice and remembered me from FOUR YEARS PRIOR!

I Don’t have to tell YOU that made my WEEK!!!!!

They were all so charming and HUMOROUS.

BETH who is known for her PALE PALETTES hates PURPLE!

STACEY, IS the author of THE BLOG QUINTESSENCE.

RICHARD has been in THE BUSINESS for a VERY LONG time and has done a house for JACKIE KENNEDY!!He loves his wrap around PORCH the MOST of all his ROOMS!

TIMOTHY,Loves to HAVE TONS of BOOKS always in his HOMES.( I AGREE!)In fact, if I was SO LUCKY to have to PICK one of these PROFESSIONALS to do MY HOME it would be HIM!COMFORT and BEAUTY ABOUND!Check out his YELLOW WALLS in the CHATEAU!Who else do you know who has YELLOW WALLS!!!!

SUSANNA,says Just move pieces around.One does not have to spend more to re-decorate!As she found out by visiting her rental house!The LADY had the GALL to move a Round TABLE from point A to point B by a window!Which was a GOOD MOVE AFTER ALL she even admitted!

But MY PHOTO up TOP HERE is of another DECORATOR who I cannot remember her name who approached me AFTER this LECTURE to tell me …………….SHE READS MY BLOG!

She even sent the VIDEO of BANKSY to her SISTER IN LAW who wants a PIG!

SO, we had a GOOD TALK about PIGS and their BEHAVIORS!

OF COURSE WHAT STANDS OUT IN THEIR MINDS IS THE DIRT FROM BANKSY’s SNOUT ON MY DOOR!

I have to be honest HERE and say I ALMOST did not POST that VIDEO on Instagram as that bothered me!

I was hoping NO ONE WOULD NOTICE!!!!!!!!

AS we STOPPED in FRONT of a BOOTH and I exclaimed ,”I DIDNOT SEE THIS BEFORE!”The man standing at the COUNTER said,”I think I FOLLOW YOUR INSTAGRAM!”I reply…….”.WHO ARE YOU?!!!!

“HE TELLS ME FIRE STATION GUY!!!!!!!

OMG……….

He was THE FIRST person I FOLLOWED on IG who SOLD ANTIQUES!

HIS TASTE IS INCREDIBLE…………………MY HEART would PALPITATE over THINGS!

He says OPEN the CHAMPAGNE…….and I SAY LETS TAKE A PHOTO!

Oh you are living THE life Contessa! Your enthusiasm is contagious and that is probably why so many people gravitate to you. Your outfit is gorgeous and the muff too!
What a delight to meet The Earl of SPENCER and have a wee chat…I had no idea that he wrote books.
Thank you sharing Penelope’s gorgeous home and garden…I follow her on IG and she has been through quite the ordeal with those fires and floods…hope you both can get together for a fun event soon.

Gosh, I was on my way to work and thought I’ll just check my emails and opened up yours and and 3/4 hr later I’ve still not left! Not surprised in the slightest that you are recognized but yes it must give you such a thrill especially traveling to different states and randomly bumping into followers! Such a feast for the eyes by seeing the show through your eyes!
Now in regards to the CD issue…..download the app Spotify on your phone and start saving all the Italian Opera that you love and you can make a music library of your favorites. And then you will also be able to play it through your car to by using the media button. Off to work!! xo

Looooove your muff! Absolutely beautiful! Perhaps lining might help minimise the static cling but I’m not so sure whether it’s the right thing for a kaftan. The huge candlestick is simply magnificent. The Spencer girls are gorgeous! Actually they were raised in Cape Town.Not sure about their dad…However, the most delightful thing of all is the genuine show of affection and appreciation towards you by your blog followers you encounter wherever you go! Isn’t that marvelous?

Oh Contessa, you need your own tv show! You are a celebrity and it’s no surprise that you get recognized! This was so much fun to read and the photos took us all along for the ride! You truly have a gift for making your readers feel like we are there with you!
Static cling and all, you looked fabulous! I love all your bracelets you have stacked up your arm! So chic! The fur muff is a brilliant idea, so unique! I have to keep that in mind for Hildie!
I have to say I love the pillows. I’m telling myself that they’re made from damaged pieces of vintage cloth to make me feel better about cutting up such gorgeous fabric. Oh such interesting and beautiful things!

  THEY ARE MADE FROM DAMAGED BITS………which as PENELOPE pointed out up top would have been thrown away!!!THE PILLOWS ARE GORGEOUS and YES HILDIE needs a MUFF next FALL!!!!!!!

She roasted a turkey for her neighbor around the holidays.

Scintillating!! Elizabeth, your post sparkles with such energy and love– who could resist being drawn in?
(appointments? Schedules to keep? But…I must read LA CONTESSA before I arise to battle the day?) How thrilling to have lovely new friends flag you down to meet you after “knowing” you through IG and your blog! Imagine how excited they were. I am so sorry that Penelope was unable to join you( understandably!) yet see how many wonderful people were with you– including all of us!
Of course your gold caftan is the pinnacle– why haven’t you packed it up and fedex’ed to me after I swooned over it a few days ago? — but the leopard cowl dress is also tres elegante. Perfect ensemble when one ventures off to purchase putti and follies?.
Did I spy ANOTHER famous designer IGer in that crowd photo of the book-signing line? It surely looks like James Farmer, on the right, in a grey sweater and navy tie, beard and glasses.

Ah, my Contessa, see what you have done? I shall be 30 minutes behind all day and…it was thoroughly worth it! Next year we should all meet in Nashville and take the place by storm?

  I have to share a little secret with YOU…….that LEOPARD COWL is a HEAD BAND I had MADE!Almost TURBAN like it wraps around my head three times…….I was not happy with the FINAL LOOK so I draped it over my shoulders and sent a photo to THE ITALIAN and to another FRIEND!They BOTH SAID, “YES”, I had taken it off by the time they responded!!!!Back on it went as I walked out the door…………….the caftan which one of MY READERS sent to me via email as it was on EBAY!I got for a SONG!IT too has the leopard print in it but is VERY hard to see…………….THAT’sWHAT GAVE ME THE IDEA!

This is just the best! Fabulous! (And that’s not really a word I use – except to describe you!!) And you met George and Charlotte’s great uncle! To think!

My brother, his wife, and two sons live in Nashville. He went toVanerbilt. So did my aunt and great uncle. My parents grew up 45 mn Northeast of Nashville in Kentucky, and now live two hour South, in Alabama. In other words, it’s a special place to me. And now to you!

We will talk soon. After I reread this loaded post!

What a great post! You captured the weekend perfectly. This was my first visit to the Nashville show and I was not disappointed. It was exhilarating! So much to drool over and so many amazing dealers. It was so wonderful to meet you. You were so gracious to visit with me. It was so nice to finally meet the woman that I feel like I am sitting down with a cup of coffee for a visit when I read your blog. Isn’t social media unbelievable! Oh Contessa, what a fabulous trip! I’ve been following Penelope’s unfortunate situation. So sad over the devastation and loss in that beautiful community. Mother Nature was not kind to California this past year. But onto happier topics, you are a STAR wherever you go and you must keep blogging as you make many people so happy – including ME! This post is packed with many so many punches, I don’t know where to begin. But, what stands out for me is meeting the woman behind Quintessence who I ADORE. I’m not a fan of Earl Spencer, but you’d better believe I’d be elbowing my way into the book signing line if I’d been there. Glad you are home safely from another adventure. I don’t know what to say. Your energy and excitement are infectious. It must have been thrilling to meet Earl Spencer. I did see Queen Elizabeth once when she visited Malta some time in the 1990s and also Tony Blair walking out of Westminster Abbey ((I think he was attending a funeral and the place was closed to the public) but that’s about it. And nobody recognises me or my blog 🙂 You, on the other hand, are becoming very famous but always remain our kind, sweet Contessa.

What an interesting life you lead. So many venues, such interesting people. I can see why Penny and you would be friends. Her house reminds me a bit of yours, but less full haha.
Don’t mind the clinginess of your dress. A mistake, those velvet trousers, one that you won’t make again.
But to be recognized by six followers! Wow. I have only been recognised twice, but I thought it was a sensation. Indeed, you realise how far your blog is spread. Lovely.

Fabulous post Contessa!!! Your sense of style and excitement are definitely felt right through the internet! I’ve never been to Nashville, let alone a large Antique Show like this! I have been an avid Antique hunter for most of my life, yet, I’ve never been to a large show. Hmmm…. well, it is a New Year! I was so happy to read about all the wonderful people who came up to you and told you that they recognized YOU! It makes it so much fun when you think about all the time and effort you put into this blog of yours. Good people attract Good people!

Hello Contessa, I need those putti heads! I am glad they showed in the background of the statue picture so that we get an idea of scale. The best thing about your whirlwind your of the show was that you get just as excited about meeting the “ordinary” people who connect with you as you do the celebrities. Of course, after you introduce them, you imbue them with a celebrity of their own.

I need more coffee after reading this–I feel like I’ve just been whisked off on a whirlwind trip myself. It’s always fun to read about your activities, and when you head to events your are in your element.
Re static cling: rub yourself down (well, not your skin but your underlayer of clothes) with a dryer sheet before putting on static-attracting fabric like silk. If you don’t have an underlayer like your leggings, then moisturize well, but do it a good 10 minutes in advance so it soaks in and doesn’t stain your clothes.
That gold caftan is gorgeous. Cling aside (and I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out), you looked amazing in gold next to the woman in the equally amazing purple dress. Those colors were made for each other. Two gems.
I also loved your other outfits. You have so much presence.
It isn’t surprising that you would meet fans. The ranks of Contessa admirers just keeps growing.

Okay, this Blog as far as I am concerned is your very best yet! I know it’s actually not the easiest thing in the world to put together but we so enjoy them and by the way, until you mentioned the static cling not one of us noticed. We did afterwards though!!!! My mother used to say – Don’t complain and never explain! Which now I see as good advice. Oh, I would have been in heaven at that show and would have had to have a new house or maybe a full other house to decorate – somewhere I remember reading that Oprah has done exactly that in Chicago – she has a whole other full-on house that her guests stay in whilst she lives in another in the same building. I also know that Colin Cowie (who is on the East Coast and is a Zimbabwean/South African) does the same thing, I think that’s what I would also do if I had the “readies” and a husband who was willing to go along with my ideas all the time!!! OH, I forgot to say….I bought Rebecca Vizard’s book the second it came out…….I totally believe in Rebecca Vizard and what she does. Mostly; she finds decaying fabrics…..tapestries, metallic embroideries…..that most of the thing is gone…..she rescues the pieces that are still okay……and cuts off the damaged parts…and rescues the exquisite handwork. And makes pillows! Nothing about that do you disagree with! I KNOW you! Are you kidding? The whole damn thing is falling apart….there are a few segments of extant portions….that can be made into pillows? You do agree with that! Metallic embroidery that was hand embroidered on silk that has fallen into dust…..she cuts the silk away….mounts the embroidery on a new background and makes a pillow…..treasures. She saves all that handwork that would end up in the trash…and pillows make such a beautiful statement in rooms. I have beautiful fragments of magnificent tapestries………on gorgeous pillows. It makes perfect sense. Bravo Rebecca! I found her pillows years ago in Dallas!
Another expensive habit of mine. I just know you understand now.

I thought I could come…..really (that is how unrealistic I am…and impractical) My neighborhood is Amageddon; we have constant meetings with insurance people and our beloved contractor who built our house…and our gardener who is rescuing beautiful pots I inherited from my mother from 3 feet of mud. Dream on that I could go to Nashville! Thank you for bringing the joy and wonder to me! We have to go next year! I will bring my anti-static spray!!!

Contessa, another delightful, jam-packed post of your adventures. I enjoyed all of the photos of you and your old and new friends, and I am not surprised that often you bump into your admirers along the way. How exciting to meet Princess Diana’s brother; I would have stood in line to see him and have him sign my book too.

I wanted to go to Nashville… desperately… but was in NYC! So torn! Would have lost my ever lovin’ mind if I’ve been there! You would’ve had to have taken my credit cards away from me! The Putti heads… I want an old, crusty urn urn full of them and Rebecca vizards fabulous pillows… OMG! I want a room full of those. BTW I have her book… read every page… Its fabulous. Right now I’m looking for an antique stone alter table to put outside of my dining room, a big urn for the top, some stone or marble cherub heads hands and feet and a pair of old candle sconces for either side of the alter table. This month I’m going to New Orleans to meet some women I follow on Instagram, plus I hope to find some wonderful garden antiques while I’m there. Know any dealers there I should contact? Next time there’s a show like Nashville call me! I’ll join you in a flash! xoxox, Brenda

  I was there in 1985 I was there for work……..I was 25 years old.
  I loaded up my luggage with 28 PUTTI in CEMENT!!!!!!
  They were small but never less 28 items came home with me!
  YOU WILL FIND ALL THAT YOU WANT AND MORE THERE!
  NO, I do not know any dealer personally……..
  ATLANTA, would be another good source……………that SCOTTS MARKET!

  I NEVER WEIGH THE LUGGAGE!I knew I would be bringing BOOKS HOME so I CHECKED MY BAG.I also had a BIG CARRY ON……….I ALWAYS HAVE A BIG CARRY ON!
  IT was a BEAUTIFUL VENUE……….and I was SO HAPPY TO BE THERE!
  TO visit with FRIENDS and NEW FRIENDS and of COURSE To GAZE at ALL THE STUFF I EITHER OWN OR WOULD LIKE TO OWN!I’m in MY ELEMENT!
  Love looking at the PRETTY PEOPLE TOO……..those SOUTHERN WOMEN and their BAROQUE PEARLS was something!I was able to KEEP up in that department!HUTTON actually turned me on to those GEMS!In his JEWELRY BOOK!SANTA THAN brought one year a beautiful necklace…………………LUCKY ME!

Every picture in this post was eye-boggling! The mirrors, statues, seed displays, books, hand sewn pillows in the most amazing old fabrics, stylish women and than one in a nipple zipper… all of this and a FOLLY! I always wanted a FOLLY. Then the Earl of Spencer Spencer! I am not up on the home and Garden celebrities and the names of all the people you mentioned I did not know… will have to explore more later… just trying to follow you through one glorious, tantalizing display after another. My eyes just kept settling on one little wonder then there was another something wonderful winking at my off to the side! Your mink muffand THE STYLE CRONE, WHO was a name I was familiar as I was with her muff post!!! Of course, The Earl of Spencer rang a bell.. I also learned some shocking news.. I followed the link to Penelope’s home and thought to myself.. thank heavens there was not a lot of destruction. What an incredibly beautiful home… I hope this high hedges were not damaged! What a tragedy! I am so glad they got out of harms way in time!!! The other Shock was CD’S are being discontinued? I have CD players I. My home and car ( come to think of it when I bought my Suburu last July, they told me that the CD players were going to be discontinued… I did not want to take the chance in next year’s model not having one, so I bought a 2017. ALL my OPERAS at on CD’s!!!! Well, this was a tour for the Memory Books. I will be spending a week or so chasing down the books and names you mentioned! You look so glamorous and BANKSY the TEA CUP poof would be tickled pink that his NONNA was asked about him… he is quite the celebrity! You should write a book starring Banksy! Loved this post!!!!!!!!!!

MUFF~WINE~CAMERA!!!!! You are very dexterous!!! My stylish daughter just bought a mink muff with all the money from her 30th birthday. I’m not sure where her genes came from…with my lack of fashion flair.

I would love to go to the Nashville show sometime! I hope antiques are enjoying renewed popularity. I love that you got to meet the Fire Station Guy! I follow you both on Instagram. I loved your outfit! (A dryer sheet works wonders for static cling! Just rub it over your leggings or stockings!) Thanks for sharing your adventure.
