CHEERS TO MY HEALTH!

January 7, 2019 300 Comments

WELCOME 2019!

I think last year was the FASTEST YEAR EVER for me!I can recall MY FATHER stating the OLDER you get The FASTER it GOES!

He was RIGHT!

A few of you have inquired about MY HEALTH over this PAST YEAR and I have remained pretty silent on that issue!

If you have been FOLLOWING me for sometime you know I had asked for YOUR HELP!

TO SEE THAT BLOG POST from MARCH 13, 2017 GO HERE!

I still SUFFER from THE EPISODES as I call them and now am entering year THREE!

MY DEFINITION of an EPISODE is my EYES GO I cannot focus and I feel like I will PASS OUT!

It’s hard for me to keep my eyes OPEN.

I cannot walk!

The episodes last for MINUTES!

Once the Eyes come back into Focus I am left with a terrible HEADACHE from the base of my neck to the TOP of MY HEAD.

The Next DAY I usually feel like a TRUCK has HIT ME!

To say I am a bit discouraged is an underSTATEMENT!I have seen Medical Doctors, Cardiologists,Neurologists,Endochrinologists,Acupunture Specialist, Massage Therapy and now a HOMEOPATH.

I lost over half my head of HAIR!

I have shrunk over a FULL INCH.

I am VERY TIRED even though I have exercised my entire LIFE!

The latest NEWS is I have OSTEOPOROSIS of the SPINE!

But lets back up a moment to where I found OUT I had a LEFT BUNDLE BRANCH over my HEART this past FALL!

Back in SEPTEMBER I was boarding a flight to London and as they were announcing the boarding sections I was throwing up in the recycle bin!

I was able to board the Flight barely and had asked for help as I entered the plane.Of course, they questioned my well being and wanted to make certain I could FLY!I assured them I was OKAY and just needed to sleep it off!I felt I had gotten FOOD POISONING from my can of TUNAFISH I had eaten before leaving for the airport!

It only got worse and I will spare You the DETAILS!

Once in England I was able to function but SLOWLY.

I barely ATE.

I traveled with a PLASTIC BAG in my BASKET BAG ready to pull out in a moments NEED!

I sat by Myself in the bus just in CASE!

AS the trip was ending and I found myself in London for four days I had to go to bed in the afternoons to MAKE the Dinner or Tea dates!

Here I am in the LAND of MY DREAMS and I am in BED!

After coming back HOME I ONLY got worse!

I WAS SO SICK!

Again I have NEVER had FOOD POISONING so did not know what to think but we are Now in week THREE!I did figure it OUT!I was on a medication from NEUROLOGY which was a pill that gradually added mg each week! The day I boarded the FLIGHT I was at FULL DOSAGE!I was reacting to the meds and having ALL the SIDE EFFECTS!

GOOD NEWS IS I LOST 20 Pounds!

Bad News is My doctor did not get back to me in a timely manner nor seemed concerned!I was VERY VERY SICK!

After calling and emailing I finally got a DOCTOR on CALL who helped me go off the medication!I had started reducing the meds by myself as I did not get a full answer from my NEUROLOGIST!(He told me to reduce meds but did not say by how much!)

I am OFF those seizure medications!I would rather LIVE through the EPISODE than be on those medications!I was on TOPAMAX,which is a seizure medication but used for MIGRAINES.

This was the third or 4th medication they had tried on me!

Now, I have to say all along I thought it was my HEART giving me trouble!

I have had HEART surgery on the MITRAL VALVE in 2010.About five years later I learned from a check up ECHO that the VALVE was leaking again! It was ALL MATTER OF FACT and NO real concern as it was NOT bad enough to go through the surgery AGAIN!It has never been brought up to me in follow up visits.

I WAS BESIDE MYSELF WHEN I LEARNED THIS NEWS!

But here I thought it was my HEART that was FAILING me!SO, upon returning from ENGLAND I demanded TESTS!Especially a STRESS TEST which I knew I would fail!Just because of my breathing and huffing and puffing!I was having all the SAME SYMPTOMS I had before I had the heart surgery!

I arrive for the STRESS test!

SAME woman I have had for the last 20 plus years!

MONICA!

Can I be BLUNT?

Cant stand the woman!

They have me hooked up to the monitor with wires all over my chest and Monica comes over and asks if I exercise.I say YES!I do PILATES REFORMER 3 times a week.I LOVE IT!

“Whats the Reformer she asks?”

Then she goes into a DIATRIBE about how I need to get my HEART RATE UP and that’s NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

I explain I cannot do aerobics as I feel LIGHT HEADED and have the sensation of fainting if my heart rate goes too high. The same happens WHEN I WALK !

SHE CONTINUES TO LECTURE ME!

Now my BLOOD PRESSURE is on THE RISE!

She goes back to the machine and says “Well, you will NOT be having a STRESS TEST today!”

WHY NOT I SAY?

“Because you have a LEFT BUNDLE BRANCH over your HEART!”

She gives me no EXPLANATION as to what that is and marches out of the room to talk to the doctor in charge.

I am given another HEART test instead where they inject a fluid into your veins that makes you feel like your exercising!DURING THIS TEST THE TWO ATTENDANTS TURN THEIR BACKS TO ME!A side effect of this test is a HEART ATTACK!

ARE YOU STILL WITH ME HERE?!!

LET ME INTERRUPT THIS BLOG POST BY TELLING YOU ABOUT…..

EYEBOBS GLASSES

GIVE AWAY COMING NEXT POST!

THE GIVE AWAY GLASSES ARE LIGHT PINK in color!

THE POWER IS 2.00

(All you have to do is LEAVE A COMMENT on this  BLOG Post or the next BLOG POST and YOUR name will GO into a MAGICAL TOP HAT to be PICKED AS A WINNER!I will then MAIL off TO YOU with another TREASURE from MY CASA!)

After these tests have been completed and there were a few it comes to the attention of my CARDIOLOGIST that no one did an EKG!He would also like my blood pressure taken!I can go at any time and just walk in……..

I arrive and tell the receptionist WHY I am there and also my doctor would like the BP taken! She informs me I need to go to the THIRD FLOOR for a blood pressure reading!I’M IN CARDIOLOGY!The first thing they do is sit you down in a chair and take the vitals!!!!

I think be CALM ……….do as she says YOU have the time!

I also tell the GAL who does the EKG!

Her response was,” I don’t know where you would have that done!”

I’m in CARDIOLOGY PEOPLE!!!!!!!

SO, knowing that the offices CLOSE FOR LUNCH and it is close to noon; I RUN to the third floor!YES, I’m out of breath!I say to the receptionist I’m here to get my BP read at the Injection clinic. He says,”Oh thats on the second floor!”I arrive on the second floor,”They are closed until 1:30!He does tell me I can go downstairs to have a reading in the EDUCATIONAL department!I say THANK YOU and off I trot!

I walk around the room and do not see the MACHINE!

There are TWO PEOPLE behind the counter.

I ask….. They Point!

BIG NEW MACHINE!

I try 4 times……..NO NUMBERS!

I turn around and say”Is it working?”

They ignore me.

SO, I get up and walk to the counter……..I can tell THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS NEW MACHINE!

NO blood pressure reading.

Now, I’m at The medical building and I was so sick over the weekend we had to CANCEL DINNER GUESTS!I think why don’t I try to get an APPOINTMENT with ANY doctor………(AT this stage I still think I have had food poisoning.)I go back upstairs and ask the receptionist. His response which I  knew what it would be, but thought I would try anyway!”Oh, I cannot do THAT!” HE SAYS.”DO you have the APP on your PHONE?”I say, NO APP on MY PHONE! “Than he explains I must go to THE LAND LINE on THE WALL and call the phone number posted there!

I say you mean &*%-*$#@ and he smiles and says “YES!”

( I Know ALL the PHONES NUMBERS of this MEDICAL BUILDING BY HEART!)

I walk to the phone.

I’m tired Now and Frustrated.

There is NO CHAIR under the PHONE but a BANK of chairs within reach……but they are all hooked together so I sat on the FLOOR!

I call The NUMBER.

I wait.

SIX MINUTES for a REAL PERSON to answer.

The gal comes on the line and asks me questions which I gladly  answered!

She sends me to an ADVISE NURSE.

I answer her questions.

She puts me on HOLD.

I wait.

She comes back on the line and wants me to talk to a doctor!

I do and have both these women on the line with me.

I’m still on the FLOOR!

Now, recall what I really wanted was my Blood Pressure Taken and as an after thought; I thought I should be seen by a doctor as I had been SO SICK for the last month!

The doctor comes on the line and states that from my answers to their questions I was a “WALKING HEART ATTACK!”Please get myself to EMERGENCY NOW!

Mind you this is the FIRST DOCTOR I have spoken with since the TECHNICIAN MONICA has told me I have a LEFT BUNDLE BRANCH!

I thank her and say I will walk myself to EMERGENCY NOW………

I DO and GUESS WHAT THEY DID FIRST THING?

Took my BLOOD PRESSURE!!!

It was HIGH!!!!!!!!!

I wait 20 minutes for the Emergency Room Doctor.

A thirty-something DOCTORESSA arrives and likes my shoes!I tell her ANTHROPOLOGIE!

I fill her in on the LAST THREE YEARS of EPISODES and being so SICK since LONDON which was in SEPTEMBER and we are now in OCTOBER!SHE looks into the computer and sees the EKG that was taken within the last hour.

SHE explains to me that the BUNDLE BRANCH was NOT there TWO years ago!(THE LAST EKG PREFORMED ON ME)and that I could have suffered a small HEART ATTACK!My doctor can have tests done to see if that was the case!I’m thinking to myself…….good GOD I don’t think I WANT TO KNOW if I did have a HEART ATTACK but that is INTERESTING INFORMATION!

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?!!!

SHE than turns to me and says ,“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?”

I say, I wanted my Blood Pressure read as requested by my CARDIOLOGIST and than thought I should be seen by a doctor as I have not been feeling well and the doctor IN YOUR BUILDING on the END OF THE PHONE sent me here……….I state ,”ARE YOU RELEASING ME!” She says ,”YES” and with that she walks OUT THE DOOR!

I SAY “GREAT!”I can go HOME AND FEED THE CHICKENS!!!!!!!!

DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?

I’m still in shock about it………so I thought I would SHARE THIS CARE that I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING.

I HOPE THIS IS NOT A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM!

THE PAIR BELOW GIVE ME GREAT COMFORT!

SIR WINSTON and THEODORABLE

IN Night TIME MODE!

I’m Now seeing a HOMEOPATH who has me on a DIET as SHE feels it is a FOOD ALLEGORY which is causing THESE EPISODES as I call THEM!

She has me writing down ALL that I eat and DRINK DAILY!

I QUOTE”

“OK so you are going to have a hard time for a little while if you keep doing this cheating thing.”

I’ll spare YOU the other TEXTS!

I WAS NOT GIVEN A HANDOUT ON DAY ONE when I was told to start this DIET.

It was all verbal……..I had never heard of NIGHT SHADES BEFORE!

She did say I could have ONE COFFEE A DAY!

I STARTED THIS DIET ON NOVEMBER 4, 2018.

I’m doing MY BEST PEOPLE, but am finding it TUFF to find things to EAT!

I start my day with CELERY JUICE……THANK YOU MEDICAL MEDIUM!

I than have a LATTE from our Italian coffee machine that is industrial, which is ONE TABLESPOON of coffee with ALMOND MILK!

I need the CALCIUM…….for my OSTEOPOROSIS!

I have given up A YOGURT for breakfast as my ACUPUNCTURIST feels I was eating too much DIARY.

My tongue has been enlarged and that means one is retaining to much moisture he tells me!

I had given up WHOLE MILK TWO YEARS AGO by suggestion of my FIRST BORN.

I SAW A BIG DIFFERENCE in the TUMMY AREA!

NOT so much BLOATING!

CALCIUM percentage in WHOLE MILK is 25%.

ALMOND MILK has 45%.

I eat AN APPLE with CHEESE for lunch MOST DAYS……..as it is filling and QUICK!

I do have SOUP for lunch if I have made it and have EXTRA!

I made a GREAT Bok Choy SOUP YESTERDAY!

DINNER……….well there I have BLOWN it as I did not get the HAND OUT until recently of the NO NO’S TO EAT!WE eat mostly chicken and salmon and RED MEAT for DINNER!

Dinner consists of a PROTEIN, vegetable and green salad ALWAYS ending with FRUIT!

THIS IS THE ITALIAN’s WAY TO EAT and I have to say OUR KIDS were NEVER SICK GROWING UP!

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!

Where I STAND TODAY………MY Episodes are getting shorter in length and the feeling of PASSING OUT HAS NOT ACCOMPANIED them in this last month! They still come every two weeks give or take. Last year they came every TEN DAYS like CLOCKWORK!I could schedule my LIFE around them almost!

I get NO WARNING!

They just HAPPENED.

I’m pretty worthless after they have VISITED ME for the rest of the day.

IF ANY OF YOU HAVE HEARD OF THIS OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING THESE KINDS OF WAVES WILL YOU PLEASE SHARE WITH ME OR THEM!

I would appreciate any FEEDBACK you may have!

THANK YOU and I promise the NEXT POST will be MORE UPLIFTING!

MY LAST THOUGHT IS:

I DO WONDER if the OSTEOPOROSIS has anything to do with THE EPISODES?

I KNOW YOU PEOPLE ARE SMART AND CARING!I see that from your comments and emails and phone calls!AS of today I have LOST 30 pounds since the FIRST of SEPTEMBER, which is TERRIFIC but I am a bit worried.

I only drive roads where I can pull over………….which has limited my LIFE GREATLY!

I have been wondering what your medical issue was, but since you hadn’t mentioned it again I thought it wasn’t ongoing. I did admire that after the episode you wrote about you made that trip to England despite it, but sorry to hear that it did restrict your enjoyment. Wonderful that you now, finally, have a diagnosis and hope that the prescribed treatments have you feeling well. What you went through to get to this point is inexcusable, and we all are grateful that you survived it. At this point it might be helpful if you sent a copy of this saga to the head of, employer of, board of every hospital/doctor/department/office/person involved. Asking each to put themselves in your place and
make changes in every stem of the System so that each patient is treated as they would expect, want, need to be treated. Maybe it will reach someone’s mind and heart and make a difference. Meanwhile, enjoy every minute of your improved health…

Elizabeth I had no idea you were still having your strange episodes. I have gone over your post twice and also read all the informative and oh-so-caring comments and I’m worried about you. The medical feedback was so insufficient and I don’t blame you for being frustrated by the chaotic process. But I was impressed (and concerned) by the comments you got. I hope they get you moving in the right direction. What great friends our readers are, and it’s so clear you’re so loved by so many. Please keep us informed, I want to know what the final diagnosis is. You look fabulous by the way, I would never know you weren’t feeling 100%. Sending prayers for healing! Love you. Leslie

I CALL MINE….ATTACKS. I get sudden nausea and feel like “I’m going”. More than once I thought (because I couldn’t speak) my last prayers. I also thought… Food poisoning. Once, I had to pull my car over and get out and lay on the ground (trying to cool my sweating body). I always feel better after I vomit. Saw a cardiologist who made me wear a heart monitor for 3 weeks. Nothing. I am on BP meds. It is under control. I do occasionally suffer migraines. No one has ever figured out my problem, except to say it is PANIC ATTACKS??? I heard a former Olympian gymnist on the radio talk about these very issues. She had a heart issue that was practically undetectable. That scared me. I haven’t had an attack in months. It can be frightening. PS. Really love eyebobs!

    Dearest Contessa!

I’m shocked and horrified to read this account of your medical woes! It was as if Basil from ‘Faulty Towers’ was running the hospital that day! Just utterly incomprehensible and insane!

But – and I know you’ll understand my meaning here – you are VERY, VERY funny in telling us the tale. I was both mortified and laughing out loud reading this post!

Having been sucked into the vortex of the hospital system here in Australia with battling off three diagnoses of lymphoma cancer over 10 years – so I truly understand how it feels to be in need of calm, secure, kind and professional service from everyone involved in our care as a patient – I was furious at the lack of support you received. I’m so sorry you experienced this. ?

The good news now is that you have plan to recover your health! I am confident your natural strength and joie de vivre will see you do so with wonderful results. In the meantime, all my love and support to you from my flower fields out here in country Victoria, Australia. It’s fabulous how you have so many lovely women around the world showering you with good wishes. I join in with them!

    Big kiss! Sarah xo ????

Elizabeth, I read your post with growing dismay that anyone could be treated so cavalier about their serious health issues. I’m at a loss how you could keep your cool as you did dealing with the “healthcare professionals”. Your frustration came through loud and clear and I’m glad you finally got it out of your system. As to your diet – yikes. This post proves what a strong woman you are and I’m so happy I found you and I hate that your 2018 was so not deserved. I pray that 2019 gets you on the right path, peace and love friend.

    Ma Chere Contessa,
Mon Dieu! It has been a hellish year for you. I’m so sorry the medical system has failed you. Unfortunately, this is too often the case.
My son, James has an undiagnosed condition causing pain and no clear remedy. After having a thorough work up at UC still no answers, other than that he has an autoimmune condition and confirmed inflammation.
Over time his condition has shown improvement and I attribute this to a few factors including loss of weight, more controlled diet and finding a doctor he has faith in.
I think you are on the right path to finding much needed help.
    The homeopathic approach sounds helpful.
My friend Mike had extreme vertigo and no help from Kaiser to solve his problem. He found relief from a chiropractor who treats his condition with diet and exercise changes.
I also think you need what one doctor described to my son as a “quarterback”. One of your doctors who can coordinate your treatment.
You obviously haven’t yet found that person. Keep looking.
Your positive attitude has really kept you going through all the frustrating episodes you describe. I thought mistakenly that your health had improved when your took the London trip..so sorry to hear it hasn’t.
Persist with your cardiologist to get some answers. Sometimes the support staff like that technician or nurses don’t flag the doctor to alert him/her of possible problems. But the doctor needs to hear that you got the run around..it’s the doctors who are the primary caregivers that’s how the system works or doesn’t work.
I read all the supportive comments/suggestions in your blog.
Hang in there! You will find the right answers! ?

One night in 2000 I had a hard time breathing. I called for an appointment with my GP the next morning, to which they said I should have called an ambulance! My GP did an EKG and said I had left bundle branch block and sent me immediately to a cardiologist. Long story short, I have chronic heart failure. Your light-headed episodes make me wonder if your heart rate is sometimes too slow. My mother had episodes where she would get terribly ill–like flu–and my father would take her to the ER. They finally caught her heart acting up. She ended up coding a day or two later in the hospital and a pacemaker was installed to prevent her heart from beating too slow.

I’ve had what sounds like similar episodes since my late 20’s. Diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse, put on Inderal LA80mg… a beta blocker… which helped. Then AFTER chemotherapy in 2004/05 my episodes were more intense and more frequent. I, too, stayed on the access roads since I almost passed out on the freeway, and after an episode I felt crummy for a day or more. I wore a heart monitor numerous times but never had an episode when wearing one, so my cardiologist said this time I was going to wear it until I had an episode. BINGO! Along with Mitral Valve Prolapse, I now have A-Fib and A-Flutter (can cause a stroke/heart attack) caused by the chemotherapy I took. It’s notorious for damaging the heart and is even nicknamed “Red Devil.” Then the problem became finding the right meds/dosage to “help” control it. I take Sotalol 2xday and for the most part it’s reduced the episodes but not completely. My doctor taught me to do the M-1 Maneuver: Bear down like you’re constipated and trying to go to the bathroom. This keeps the blood in the upper half of your body and helps prevent you from passing out. When I flew in an Air Force fighter jet as a journalist, my pilot told me to do the M-1 Maneuver if I felt myself “greying out.” NOW… I find I’m more prone to have one of these episodes if I’m dehydrated so I drink water all day.

The plot thickens… I had two episodes that were so bad I was rushed to the ER and put on fluids. It wasn’t until the second ER visit they discovered my POTASSIUM level was dangerously low… heart attack low. For the next four hours I laid there while they gave me a giant bag of IV potassium. It turns out the Sotalol to help with my A-Fib and A-Flutter leaches the Potassium out of our system. Now everyday I drink Coconut Water (less calories than Gatorade) to replace the Potassium.

My late husband, James, had RIGHT BUNDLE BRANCH BLOCK. He had a pacemaker, but when he died, the defibrillator didn’t go off.. and it was in perfect working order… which meant he didn’t have a heart attack. Autopsy discovered the walls in the upper chambers of his heart were thickening, which meant it couldn’t hold the amount of blood/oxygen his body and brain needed to refresh itself. Before he went for his final walk, he told me he’d been getting dizzy and to come looking for him if he wasn’t back in 30 minutes… He never came back… He had Cardiac Arrest… He lost consciousness because the heart stopped beating.

I don’t know about your LEFT BUNDLE BRANCH but would suggest you MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR CARDIOLOGIST, TELL HIM EVERYTHING AND TELL HIM YOU’RE NOT LEAVING HIS OFFICE UNTIL HE HELPS YOU FIGURE THIS OUT!!

I’ve learned that I can keep these episodes from SNOWBALLING by staying calm, doing the M-1 Maneuver, breath work ( 4,7,8… Inhale for 4. Hold for 7. Exhale for 8. Repeat.) FYI, I have also cut out all of the foods you have because it seems to lessen my episodes and how I feel overall and yes… We will lose weight BECAUSE WE’RE NOT EATING!!! So very frustrating! Sunday night I had pasta for the first time in a year and felt terrible. No episode, but my system will be backed up until February. Love, Brenda

PS: Panic attacks are in the mix for me. Yes we can have A-Fib, etc but we can also be having panic attacks which have symptoms that mimic heart attacks, high BP, etc. It’s a bitch to have both going on. I’m as tough as they come so it’s been hard to think I “panic” about anything but I know this is part of my diagnosis. That’s when breath work & meditation/guided imagery can help. I do GI daily.

Hi there! So sorry for all you’ve been through. I have a long story that includes a history of allergies, intolerances, asthma, migraines, heart arrhythmia, depression – INSERT YOUR OWN COMPLAINT HERE. I finally went to a holistic practitioner in NYC 20 some years ago who was focused on restoring health instead of throwing prescriptions at me…. The centerpiece of his protocol was MAGNESIUM. Most of the western world is deficient in it even if a blood test says otherwise (because Mg is stored in the cells and bones and not in the blood). That is because magnesium is needed by every cell in the body! Google “magnesium and ______” and you’ll be amazed at all that is there. I take two forms of Mg – a citrate powder drink and a newer form called magnesium L- threonate. This magnificent (pun intended) mineral has changed my life (and now my family’s) life for the better VERY QUICKLY. Why more docs don’t know about this is truly beyond me! Best of luck to you! Margo

I use a Calcium/Magnesium drink by Thorne Research…I buy it on Amazon! But I’ve also have used . Thorne’s – “Magnesium Bisglycinate Powder” – it’s also on Amazon. I just looked it up and it says it is helpful for heart and lung function. You can also get “Neuro-Mag” the Life Extension version of l-threonate. Available from other manufacturers as well – commercial name is “magtein” – It is is one of the first versions of magnesium that is able to “penetrate the blood/brain barrier” (crazy med-speak in quotes lol). Absorbing magnesium can be challenging so that is why it is good to take a couple of different forms. The drink one (mag citrate I believe can cause some people – ahem – digestive issues – but it is good for constipation.) I also take a trace mineral supplement (there are lots, mine also is from Life Extension – I’m a soft touch for the name of company I think.) Seriously, magnesium has been life changing for me with many things, my daughter’s migraines, and even my pillar of health husband’s seasonal frost bite, as it seems to have improved his circulation in his fingers even in cold weather. You will be amazed when you start reading about it. I hope it and/or something else here works for you. Remember it can take time if you are extremely magnesium deficient – but my daughter’s migraines (which sound a lot like some of your symptoms) improved every day starting immediately. Best of luck to you! Margo 🙂

So wonderful to hear you may have found the answer. I am anxiously awaiting hearing the results.
When I read all you are going through I thought wow, this is me! I have been dealing with a lot of this since I was 30 and now I am going to be 65. It intensified The last 5 years, losing hair, and the list goes on. I went to all the different venues you did to no avail in the last several years. Some things helped but not enough. In the 30’s they determined I do have a heart issue but was considered very mild and not to worry about. What I found most frustrating it felt like no one was really listening. Right before Christmas I got a pain in my neck so bad I thought I would take myself to the emergency room but decided to wait and call a chiropractor instead because I thought they will just give me pain killers and muscle relaxers in emergency. So I have now gone to the Chiro. He did X-Rays….my neck was so out of alignment it was putting the squeeze lets just say on my brain stem/ nerves. All or most of the symptoms I have had it seems were caused from that. He said, this has taken years to get this bad. So now since the day after New Years I am improving and much better. I didn’t want to say anything because I would never want to give medical suggestions to anyone however, your symptoms were so much like mine I couldn’t not say anything. I love all your posts and thank you for being so open. I wish you well in your quest for finding the answer. I look forward to hearing what you may have found as an answer.

So late to the party here, but Elizabeth, how maddening! A couple of things. Topamax, I think that medication is the devil. It really helps people with seizures, but I personally had problems with it for preventing migraines. I have heard so many other horror stories of people using it other than for seizures as well. Second, go look into AlgeaCal. It is a really good source of Calcium–from the sea. See if your gal agrees if you can try it. My bones are stronger because of it with no bad side effects! Read testimonials from others. I’m so frustrated for you and hope you get to the bottom of it all. Wishing you a Happy New Year and good health.

As a long time anxious person, I have found meditation for even 3 minutes seems to help calm me. Your body is the MOST IMPORTANT real estate therefore we need to listen to it. OMG! What a nightmare! Two weeks ago I took my mother to the hospital for a pet scan. After a three hour wait we were sent home without the scan. The radiologist had written the order wrong and no one could get in touch with him to ask him to change the order or correct it. While there a woman came over to talk with us after overhearing what the tech was telling us. She said something that I already knew…YOU HAVE TO ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF!! You have to be firm and demand to be treated and to be treated as if you are the doctors own mother. You have to say “I’m not leaving this office til I get some answers!” This woman told us she’s had five different kinds of cancer and she had learned to advocate for herself or she’d have died long ago. This “holier than thou” attitude that has been thrown at you is infuriating. I hope that you soon find the right doctor(s) and your medical mystery is solved.
Sending you prayers for an end to this misery you’ve endured for way too long..

Sorry to say Mother hasn’t had that pet scan yet. To complicate things, Mother had a mild stroke Thursday night!! She’s recovering nicely and should be released from the hospital tomorrow. Once I get her back home we can proceed again toward getting that scan. I don’t like being forceful either but I’m finding with age comes the ability to say whatever the heck I want to say or need to say. You take care and I hope to read very soon that you are on the road to recovery!!

btw: I’m all for homeopathology but I could never ever manage a single day on that diet (I live in Liguria – land of bietole, pasta/pesto, pizza, fish and caaaaffffeee!!) so I wish you luck 😉 and agree though that a drastic reduction of animal protein and dairy could perhaps lower the high blood pressure and clear the arteries. One switch I made and love was apple with peanut butter instead of apple/cheese – esp. good on granny smith apples!

Dear dear Girl, yes I can call you that as I am older than you!!!! What you have describe is not rare occurence the medical system has disappeared as it used to be years ago…
I dont know if that will make you feel better, but know you are not the only victim out there, 14 yers ago I had breast cancer was given chemo then my doc who is supposed to be a genuis about this, says to me perhaps I should have radiation, not necessary but if I was his wife he would recommend she should do it, do you argue about that, you dont so radiation it is. 4 years later I have a massive heart attack went to the emergency room they poo pooed it as I am very thin, my husband called a friend who is a physician who rushed to hospital screamed at the emergency docs who were doing nothing no eKG nothing, passed 2 weeks in ICU no one knew if I was going to survive…. I did but then at the same time senator Edward Kennedy “s daughter who had breast cancer when I did and had the same treatment died from a heart attack while exercising at the gym. I got curious and did some research and yes you know what I found radiation can cause heart attacks usually fatal…. Now when i questioned the cardiologists not one wanted to admit it, the radiation had destroyed the upper left of my heart… To this day no one wants to give me an answer, too late now I have been told to prepare myself to die…as there is nothing they can do… so have a pacemaker, defibrillator . Now why wasnt I told that this could happen and that it wasnt a necessity why was it suggested. Can I tell you the fury I have felt, my life has been made a mess when I was a very healthy woman taking care of myself? Now when someone tells me they are going to have radiation for their breast cancer I immediately warned them to ask questions. I do feel for you situation and the frustration and stress you are going through right now, can I say you still look fabulous, I dont know if you like to hear that as I am told that often and I am sure people want to be kind because nothing shows on the outside, and you dont want to tell really about what is going on in the inside, it used to rattle me ,now I just say thank you. Anyway thank you for sharing it takes a lot of courage. You give a lot of us a great deal of pleasure reading your musings and looking at your beautiful photos.

Hi, my wife Rita reads your blog and she passed it along to me. I am a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM) with almost thirty years experience in TCM and nutrition. Just for the record, almonds have 332 mg of Calcium per cup, and they are a complete protein, which means they contain all nine essential amino acids that we require to metabolize the non-essential amino acids. Make sure your almonds are organic and have not been subjected to any type of preservation gases. As adult humans we do require calcium and we can obtain adequate amounts through including lots of organic dark green leafy vegetables in our eating program. The dairy foundation has lobbied us into thinking that milk is essential, ignoring the fact we are the only mammal ingesting milk of any species. Ask a vet if they have ever seen a wild animal with osteoporosis. Did your acupuncturist suggest the possibility of a liver/spleen disharmony? Liver Yang rising can present with many of the symptoms you are experiencing. Seeing a homeopath is a good choice and the food journal is excellent, especially if you monitor your reactions following each meal. No BP cuff – are you sure you were in a legitimate Dr. s’ office? Find a Naturopath who practices functional medicine. My recommendation is to contact Dr. Richard Brouse for a complete health workup. His clinic is located in Oregon City Or. and you can contact him at drbrouse@healthedcorp.com. His phone number is (503) 632-7260. Love and good health, William

    PER EMAIL:
    Dear Elizabeth,
Amanda from Wales here wishing you a happy new year.
I have tried to reply to your blog post ,but for some reason it didn’t display…so decided to write to you with some suggestions.
I was rather amazed at the sheer disjointedness if your recent troubles, and somewhat dismayed.
I was a nurse for 30 years, not a Dr, but will give you my thoughts. I have no idea if there is a single condition that would explain all your problems, but the left bundle branch block really does need to be looked at with some urgency. I do not understand, as an ex a/e nurse, why you would be sent home from a/e!!!!
It can mean that you’ve had a heart attack or that there are other heart problems…but they need to investigate! The attacks when you felt like passing out can be explained by possible heart problems.Have you had a 24/48/72 hour tape? Usually just done for 24 hours, but can be for longer if nothing picked up. You wear a little monitor that records your heart rhythm, and show up any arrythmias.if you have had a heart attack as was suggested, you may need to be on different medications. It is inconceivable to me, that your Dr wouldn’t have a Bp machine in their office!!! Can you change Dr, get a second opinion,/proper workup?
I hope that is helpful. I must admit you do look great in your photos.
    Wishing you all the best
    Amanda xx

Sounds silly…but you are in California, an active earthquake zone. Check our your EMF (electromagnetic field) sensitivity. A thick like dizzy wave, almost like a silent buzz, sometimes happens during or before earthquakes in some folks. It can be disturbing to go through, despite lasting only seconds. It will take some research to understand, and find a reputable person to explain it, maybe.
Cat scan or whatever they are using nowadays, and second opinion. Sound medical attention is important above all.

What an ordeal for you. So sorry to hear this. I have no suggestions to add to those already mentioned. However, I would like to comment on osteoporosis. You mentioned Almond milk at 45% and cow’s milk at 25%. I keep almond milk on hand in case I run out of regular milk but in my experience, it has very LOW calcium. My current package shows 2% of the daily calcium, whereas my cow’s milk, organic fat free or low fat, shows 35%. I have always found that cow’s milk is far, far HIGHER in calcium than almond milk. Additionally, I moved from osteoporosis to osteopenia (spelling?) by taking a Prolia (spelling?) shot every six months. This has added bone to my hips and spine. However, as with any medication, there are pros and cons. I wish you improved health. Please keep us informed of your progress.

I was admiring your svelte figure & only to read further that is was NOT intentional and caused by such unforeseeable PAINFUL circumstances! You are in my prayers. Cheers to finding the culprit, a swift recovery, YOUR health, more courage, & indomitable fabulosity. Xo, Elena

    VIA EMAIL:
    Amanda xx

Elizabeth… While you wore a heart monitor, you might not have had an episode during this time. I wore monitors off and on for a couple of years. Then my cardiologist said YOU’RE GOING TO WEAR THIS UNTIL IT RECORDS SOMETHING… Bingo!!!… Advocate for yourself! TELL YOUR CARDIOLOGIST YOU’RE NOT LEAVING HIS OFFICE UNTIL HE MAPS OUT A PLAN TO FIGURE THIS OUT…Then YOU follow thru. Don’t wait for him to call you. YOU MUST LEAD THIS EFFORT! Left you a long message below. xoxox, Brenda

I would agree with Amanda from Wales. You have symptoms of a bundle branch block

I’ve been mulling over this tragic health story for 24 hours now, and can’t even begin to offer advice. What Alessandra said about a parasite from your pets is a curious thought….take good care and be the fabulous diva you are meant to be, in spite of what ails you. xo Andrea

    Hello Elisabeth!

It’s sad to read that an amazing woman like you can suffer from such an usual thing. Could it be that you have to change your diet? Could it be that you got some parassite from your pets?
I did and it was horrible.

    Find out

    Love,

    Alessandra
