EYEBOBS EYEWEAR GIVE AWAY!

January 16, 2019 184 Comments

NOT every day this BLOGGER gets an EMAIL stating that A company wants to Give me A PAIR of glasses……………EYEWEAR!

In Fact, they wanted to give me TWO pairs one to keep and one to GIVE AWAY!

THAT company is called EYEBOBS!

TO SHOP THE COLLECTION click HERE!

I have been wearing their glasses for YEARS!

UNBEKNOWNST to them!!

ARE you ready for my FUN TALE?Well, it all started one day from this thing CALLED INSTAGRAM!A woman asked me if the glasses in my photo were EYEBOBS.I think I replied I did not know but would check and YES They were!

That woman’s CALL NAME on IG is I_MAGNIN.

Me being Me got curious and I asked if she was related to the SPECIALITY STORE that use to be based in San Francisco!

YES, was the response…….!!!!!

WE had a LOVELY BACK and FOURTH as I had to tell her I had worked for I. MAGNIN’s and JOSEPH MAGNIN’s years ago when I was a young thing majoring in FASHION MERCHANDISING!

In fact, I had just gone to MACY’s to VISIT the OLD POWER ROOM from I.MAGNIN’s DAYS!

IT was the MOST GLAMOROUS Bathroom I have ever been in.

When I went to the city from MARIN COUNTY with my MOTHER we would ALWAYS stop by the I. MAGNIN POWER ROOM!

BACK in THE DAY…….1960’s, 1970’s all our Doctors and Dentist’s were in the CITY!

450 SUTTER STREET and 490 POST STREET!

I FELT LIKE I HAD JUST MET A MOVIE STAR!

As she is A direct descendent of the I.MAGNIN FAMILY!

I Get to GIFT YOU NOW this pair of LIGHT PINK FRAMES with a POWER of 200 READING GLASSES!

If you leave a comment with a little BLURP to me your name will GO INTO A TOP HAT and perhaps I will have MISTER BANKSY tip the TOPHAT to FIND A WINNER!

MAYBE I can Video tape THAT and SHARE NEXT POST when I ANNOUNCE THE WINNER!

I will MAIL TO YOU as we will correspond by EMAIL and I will also add a little something from MY CASA in the BOX!

Let’s just call this a FEBRUARY PICK ME UP BOX!

I MUST SHARE with ANN ONE of MOST SPETACULAR pieces MY MOTHER bought on the FIRST FLOOR of I. MAGNIN’s in UNION SQUARE years ago!

This BEADED NECKLACE………I cherish to this DAY!

I also Own a sign that came from the THIRD FLOOR SALON, (I BELIEVE)that says GOWNS……….

I purchased at a FLEA MARKET and she told me she went to the LIQUIDATION SALE,which I knew about BUT COULDNOT BRING MYSELF TO GO!

TOO SAD FOR ME!

AT least they kept the POWDER ROOM in TACK and MACY’s expanded into the BUILDING and moved SIDEWAYS!

MAYBE I NEED TO GIFT THIS TO THE GREAT GRAND DAUGHTER OF THE FOUNDER?

I would LOVE for it to find it’s way HOME!

ANN ARE YOU READING HERE?

Leave me a comment so I have your email address SO I can send to YOU!

DO YOU KNOW THERE is A BOOK on THE STORE?

Well, I’m telling YOU there is and it is PINK just LIKE THE GLASSES!

IT was a BEAUTIFUL STORE and had a few branches as Far East as CHICAGO.As far NORTH as SEATTLE and of course in Southern California were I worked in the 1980’s!

I would ASSUME A LOT of YOU remember this JEWEL of a STORE?

The entire FACADE of the UNION SQUARE shop was white marble.

SHE WAS KNOW AS THE MARBLE LADY!

IN MY OPINION There is NOT a STORE TODAY that comes close to this WHITE MARBLE LADY!

SO, LEAVE ME A COMMENT and I will PUT YOUR NAME IN THE TOPHAT and let the WINNER KNOW on my NEXT POST who has WON! IT will be AN AGELESS STYLE POST!MY GUESS is MY VICTIM for JANUARY will remember MAGNIN’s and have a story or TWO to SHARE!

THANK YOU EYEBOBS…………….

I LOVE YOUR GLASSES and I HOPE I can get a FEW OTHERS HOOKED TOO!

AS FOR MY HEALTH!

MICHELLE BRANCH, YOU made me aware of POTS which led me to DYSAUTONOMIA!

This is me through and through!

I can NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH for this valuable information!

I will be in TOUCH via EMAIL if the TESTS CONFIRM this DIAGNOSIS TODAY!

Just want you to know I emailed MY DOCTORESSA with this information!

She set up a phone call so we could CHAT!

From there she sent  me to CARDIOLOGY who sent me to NEUROLOGY who sent me back to MY MEDICAL DOCTOR to do THE TEST!

(SHAMEFUL NO?)

THIS WAS ALL ACCOMPLISHED IN ONE DAY!

MAYBE MY LUCK HAS TURNED!!!!!!!!

I just want TO SAY THANK YOU to ALL who left a comment on MY LAST POST with STORIES and INFORMATION for me to CONSUME!

TRUELY, this was THE BEST MEDICAL ADVISE I COULD RECEIVE and to know a few of YOU have the same thing was INCREDIBLE TO ME!

I WILL BE IN TOUCH IF I GET ANYWHERE TODAY WITH THIS DIAGNOSIS!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED I HAVE WHAT IS CALLED POTS.

POTS stands for postural tachycardia syndrome and is a disease characterized by the heart rate climbing 30 beats per minute or more when the patient stands, according to the Autonomic Disorders Consortium. This increase in heart rate comes with no major change in blood pressure.

Other symptoms of POTS include discomfort in the head and neck, visual changes, weakness or poor concentration over a period of at least six months. Beta-blockers or alpha-2 agonists are medicines used to treat the disorder. Other treatments include orthostatic exercise and drinking water, but no single treatment has proven completely effective.

i hope I am not to late to enter! I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and I remember shopping at I. Magnin with my mom (we would “bum” on Saturdays). And one of my first jobs while in college was working at Joseph Magnin! I loved that quirky store and the employees were such fun! Ahh, those good ol’ days!

Only you could have such a unique diagnosis as you are one of a kind. It always is such a relief to know what is going on when your body starts talking to you in unacceptable ways. Glad it can be controlled. You are probably good for another thirty years plus. Lately so many of our acquaintances have been dying it gives pause to ponder. Be thankful and speak uplifting words to one another and surround yourself with lovely things. It’s living life well and you certainly do that!

I’m here! What a fabulous post. Thanks for sharing such good news all the way around. How cool is it that Mary Ann Magnin, who founded I. Magnin, did so in 1877! She was a true pioneer in many ways. She named the store after her husband Isaac because to name it after herself wasn’t socially acceptable.

So, you have a diagnosis. Finally! I’m not sure congratulations is the correct sentiment, but you know what I mean. Have you started a medication? Are you off the draconian diet?

LOVED I Magnin! Sadly, I never visited the SF store. My mother was a Magnin shopper, but rarely ventured from the ‘burbs. Fortunately there was a store in Walnut Creek – where the Macy’s Men’s Store resides now. I was crushed when it closed, although my budget’s health improved significantly. I bought a suit for my first wedding at I Magnin in Oakland . . . it was exquisite. Wish I’d kept it. Acquired my first pair of Ferragamo’s at the Walnut Creek store. Quite an extravagance for a young working girl, but was so proud to show up at the office – in SF – in my fancy footgear.

I see that Celia commented about Bullock’s . . . I remember the thrill when it first arrived in the Creek. Bullock’s at one end of Broadway Plaza and I Magnin at the other (at some point we had a Joseph Magnin, maybe where the old McCaulous, current NM is located). Those were the days. Not to go on and on, but I remember Cyril Magnin as a fixture in the City, along with his cute dog, Tippi (as in Tippicanoe), although I believe he was associated with Joseph Magnin. J & I Magnin must be related?

Consider this comment an entry for the Eyebob’s. I hope that you’re feeling tons better and we must get together soon – now that I’m back ‘home.’ xo

I am so glad that they have diagnosed your problems and that help is on the way. Living as you have the past year is inexcusable. Your doctor should be ashamed!

Now, I have a summer home in Minneapolis, where the Eyebobs company is located. . I had a pair that fit poorly and when to their office where the optometrist corrected them for me. Very service oriented. Mine are black with orange rims!

I have been wintering in Arizona for some time and remember the I Magnin store (and catalog) in Phoenix at the Biltmore shopping plaza. It is now houses Saks. Saks vacated their building to move into the I Magnin building and Macy’s moved into the former Saks building. I bought a lovely necklace there which was made by a jewelry designer in San Fransisco. It was made from an ivory Chinese miniature wedding chest. For many years it was the most expensive piece of jewelry that I owned and it was just a piece strung on a cord, but it is stunning and I had to have it!

You are an amazing woman – especially to share your medical concerns. What you share today could help another woman with her unknown diagnosis and hopefully, get answers!!!! Brava to you Contessa.

When I was a teenager living in Los Angeles, my grandmother took me to Bullock’s Wilshire where she purchased my first “grown up” swimsuit. It was a black one piece and looked so sophisticated. When I lived in San Francisco, I Magnin was where my husband took me to shop. While trying on several coats, a lovely saleswoman told the both of us that we were a beautiful couple. I was 25 and he was 40…. quite a few years age difference but we were in love. I would also shop at Joseph Magnin in San Jose where I purchased my first cashmere cardigan…. the saleswomen were divine.

This was back in the time were there were separate restrooms for ladies and gentlemen….. I miss that time of civility. Thank you Contessa for sharing your exquisite taste and tales.

I am so glad you are figuring this the heck out. Let’s hope it’s this because it looks like something that goes away eventually on its own. Still, what a stressful thing to live with. Sending hugs to you.

    I. Magnin holds a dear spot in my heart. As a young woman, it was my very favorite spot to shop in SF. I always went with a girlfriend and I remember the mezzanine level? That was where the small Chanel boutique was. I used to dream about buying a big cuff or pin! I remember 2 distinct things I bought there- a long navy wool military coat with gold buttons and epaulats that I wore until it was in shreds (very 80’s with big shoulders) and my first Kate Spade leather bag, which I still own in the early 90s. When Magnins closed it was an end of an era and I knew once Macy’s bought them it was all downhill and that was exactly what happened. going into that building now makes me sad. Personally, I think Macy’s sucks. There is no soul in that store. That sign is a treasure. How cool you found a descendant of the family. Joseph Maginin was a gem too. xoxo Kim

Hello my dear E-Beth, glad to read you have gotten to the bottom of your medical issues. I.Magnin At SCP is where we met and became friends so many years ago. I first worked at the store in Beverly Hills while attending UCLA. I still have several items that I purchased way back then 1979-1982 or so and they are all still wearable or useable-fine leather goods & what is now Vintage LV! I guess what is even funnier is that I still remember my cashier number 40594-4!!!!!!! I cannot remember all of my credit card number 206 something…but, definitely had it memorized and recall getting items at the back door when leaving. The BH store on Wiltshire was also truly beautiful and I can remember my interview and the Store ManagerDoris Fields who we were all terrified would catch us without nylons!
    Love to you and GP,
    Kathe

Elizabeth Iam so happy you finally have a confirmed diagnosis. Now you can work with your medical team towards a recovery, or at least towards managing your symptoms. Hurray!
My very fashionable mother was an I MAGNIN devotee, also shopped at Joseph Magnin in Santa Barbara. She was a master bargain hunter and always found such wonderful things in both stores, reduced enough to convince her she had to have whatever it was! And let me say my mom did not need a single thing because she had every closet in the house full of her clothing! We saved many of her pieces after she passed away, my daughters love wearing some of them now!
I purchased my very slinky and non-traditional prom dress at Joseph Magnin. I’m sure I was the only girl at the dance not wearing Gunny Sax or Laura Ashley! My dress was a black and maroon sleeveless dress wrap dress, with a really long wrap-around sash at the waist and a very low back (and front!) made out of stretchy Quiana fabric. Oh my, I loved how that dress made me feel, and the fact that I got it at a “grown up” store just added to my joy! I thought I was very sophisticated! It’s a shame those stores are no longer around, I do miss the experience of shopping in an environment where you feel pampered and listened to, and where you could depend on the sales clerks to really help you. It’s sure not like that any more! Shopping online just isn’t the same experience!
I love the glasses on you! Thankfully I gave up my readers when I started wearing my contact lenses in mono-vision. So nice not to have to keep a pair of glasses in the car, purse, bedside table etc! But I do need new frames for my regular backup glasses, maybe those would work!

I adored I Magnin. You are right, there is nothing comparable.
They chose me to go to New York for a Vogue Symposium. Wined and dined and interviewed by Vogue about fashion. Twelve ladies from all over the country. Lordy! We met all the designers, and had an amazing time. I could have flown home without a plane! I think it was in 1982. Grace Mirabella was the editor. The top stores in the country were asked to select a woman, not in the fashion business who was a “fashionable leader”! And there was a big article about us and what we had to say about fashion!

So happy to learn that you have a diagnosis. Look forward to hearing about a successful outcome. I had never heard of eyebobs so would be delighted to have my name put in the hat. Ah, I. Magnin here in L.A. on Wilshire Boulevard as well as Bullocks Wilshire. Both delightful stores but, alas, long gone. However, both buildings remain. Bulluck’s Wilshire’s copper clad building is now the South Western Law School. You can tour the interior and I am happy to report they left much intact and those parts that they changed were done tastefully and in keeping with the former style. The I. Magnin building now holds lots of small businesses but the outside is still as elegant as ever. I lived nearby so visited frequently – their sales were terrific – and I still have clothes from those times. A friend and I who worked together nearby would visit one or the other store for lunch once a week. We would add a hat to our outfits that day and always felt more elegant on crossing the threshold! I wonder if there are stores that still have that effect on their customers? As many of your followers have commented, those were the days!

I am SO happy you finally have a diagnosis. I have a rare neurological disease called Orthostatic Tremor. I am lucky that the first neurologist I saw at UCSF did some research on my weird symptoms and found out what I have. Having a diagnosis is such a relief! And even if we have to try a few meds before finding one that works, we are on the path. May you soon find relief.
    I. Magnin was out of our price range when I was young. We would occasionally do back-to-school shopping at Joseph Magnin and that was a treat. Then when I was in my 40’s and married to a doctor, I went to a free make-up and photo event at I Magnin and thought I was a knock-out – elegant, upscale, beautiful, but he thought I looked much older. Oh well. I hope, like me, you find a medication that takes away or mitigates your symptoms. I care. Love, Sheila-Merle

I’m over the moon that you finally have a diagnosis!!! Now let’s get you feeling better so you can get on with your amazing life…cheers to this very good news!!

I used to linger in my local IMagnin in Santa Ana’s Fashion Square as a teenager. I would ride my bicycle to get there and browse for hours looking at all of the chic and beautiful clothing items that were way beyond my price range. How serendipitous that you’ve been connected with a real live Magnin!! The universe works in amazing ways sometimes…

By the way, my cheaters just happen to be a 2.00 strength and those luscious pink eye-bobs are calling out to me!

    Much love to you Elizabeth

I Magnin was a favorite place, as well as Bullocks Pasadena, two stores I miss a lot. Those were the days were they not? Love that eye-ware too and glad to know of the brand.
