January Slipped Away…

February 4, 2026 45 Comments

MY ORANGE BOYS STARING AT ME WANTING TO KNOW WHERE JANUARY WENT?

We did take the tree down which was sad as it was still perfectly FIT and GREEN.

I was desperate to CLEAN OUT MY CLOSET as I had not done anything since we built it!

That was a few years ago and I managed to get it DONE in ONLY FIVE DAYS!

I got a GOOD REVIEW from my ECHO cardiogram for my HEART so much BETTER than I could have IMAGINED!

On TOP of that I got an EMAIL that led to a PHONE CALL which is making ME MOVE AROUND THE HOUSE like a CRAZY WOMAN!

THE ATTACK MODE.

I had started the clean out……………and YES it was OVERWHELMING!One of YOU asked me on INSTAGRAM how I decided what LEFT and what STAYED.It was EASY.Bottom line I tried on all my MAXI DRESSES. What was too small or too short left and what I knew I would NO LONGER WEAR!

Because of the body changes and LIFESTYLE TODAY requires zero DRESS UP BITS.

I kept the SENTIMENTAL and the MEMORY pieces.

I tried to hang each and everyone on a PINK HANGER……….I ran out of them so that is not a TRUE STATEMENT!I arranged the shoes back on the SHOE RACK’s UNDERNEATH the clothing and vacuumed everywhere.

BASKET BAGS came down and THE ITALIAN DUSTED FOR ME.Each BAG was taken outside and blown with a COMPRESSION HOSE for MORE DUST to DEPART!A BRITISH FELLA asked me HOW MANY BASKET BAGS I OWN.I had to go count but 18 was the number I could see and a few MORE are tucked inside the BIGGER BASKETS so my GUESS is in the VICINITY of 25.

THAT ITALIAN of mine who was born close to NAPLES and raised in ROME asked me if I thought I should DOWNSIZE!

DID YOU HEAR MY RESPONSE……………..it was a FLAT OUT “”NO NEVER!”

THE IMPROVED CLOSET.

Some of you will say ,”WHAT LEFT?” Four garbage bags and a trunk full of CAFTANS and DRESSES.

The idea was to clean out not MINIMIZE as a dear friend reminded me!

May I also say NEVER buy off INSTAGRAM.What you get and what the photo represents are two different things. Meaning the fabric is very cheap and its not as long as you saw in the photo. Many times they use other peoples photos. Most of it comes from CHINA I have noticed; as I get caught up in the colors and romance of it and ORDER!Maybe, now that I have cleaned out and shared my un-satisfaction I have CURED MYSELF!

TIME WILL TELL.

THEODORE AND DIESEL……………the animal HARMONY is BEAUTIFUL in this HOME.

DIESEL, is the grand dog.On HOLIDAY with us. Just visiting.

NOT MY BEST LOOK early morning but this PHOTO over on INSTAGRAM got attention.

This photo received 332 likes 45 comments and was viewed by 13,469 EYES!

I doubt it was the cat in my lap good old Theodore, or the coffee cup………..perhaps the coordinating LEOPARD PRINT!Pillow, blanket and slippers?I have been gaining weight too.

I am LOOKING MORE AND MORE like MY MOTHER!

I keep checking MY ANKLES for swelling, so far so good even if the one on the right here looks a bit big in this photo. If my ankles swell then I have to take LASIX, which makes you PEE MORE.I already PEE TOO MUCH as they have me drinking 2.5 to 3 liters of water a day!CAN YOU IMAGINE IF I TAKE LASIK AND PEE EVEN MORE!?!!I WILL NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE!That is probably a topic WE NEED TO DISCUSS MORE IN DEPTH?Peeing all the time leads to a weaker bladder which in turn gives you an itch from the toilet paper which gives me an ITCH and SORENESS down yonder that is truly unpleasant.Which requires wearing a PAD AGAIN!The pads have chemicals in them which give me sores…….and MORE OF AN ITCH.I am trying out CORA PADS starting tomorrow I will report back if you want me too!

ORGANIC and NO CHEMICALS = CORA PADS!

SORRY MEN I HAD TO SHARE THIS WITH MY LADIES HERE!

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL was also on the JANUARY CALENDAR!

FANTASTIC SHOW and YES YOU WERE ALLOWED TO TAKE PHOTOS JUST NO FLASH.

If you look closely you can see people INSIDE OF THIS PUPPET!

(LOOK FOR THE BLACK AREAS.)

HE WAS ENORMOUS and walked onto stage!

IT WAS MAGNIFICENT!

I really should have been in THEATER as I LOVE IT SO MUCH.I always get excited and teary eyed.No matter what the performance is about.I LOVE THE THEATER, BALLET and OPERA.I would LOVE to LIVE in an OPERA SET 7 DAYS A WEEK. 24 HOURS A DAY!

MAYBE THAT’s WHY MY HOUSE LOOKS THE WAY IT DOES?

WE HAVE OUR OWN CIRCUS CLOWN when HE VISITS!

THIS IS A BIG LUMP OF SUGAR!

THE JOY THESE ANIMALS BRING IS CONTAGIOUS!

I HOPE THIS WILL MAKE YOU SMILE AS WELL…….

THE ECHO CARDIOGRAM brought GOOD NEWS TO ME!

My EJECTION FRACTION went up to 50!!!

Normal is 55 and beyond.

I have not been normal for years.

I tend to HANG OUT in the middle 30’s with a slight climb to the low 40’s back in the day.

What this tells us is the MEDICATIONS are working!

I will FIND OUT MORE NEXT MONDAY when we head SOUTH to the CARDIOLOGIST!

I get to RIDE THAT STATIONARY BICYCLE with wires attached TO THE BOD………….OH THE JOY!

They are still STARING AT ME and it’s FEBRUARY NOW!

HAIR DAY…………….

Looks like the gray is finally taking CONTROL.IT’s been coming for a long time.I have NEVER dyed my hair and doubt I will now.It has never crossed my mind to do so………………I think because of the time commitment more than anything else.WHO KNOWS WHY WE DO THE THINGS WE DO?

Food for thought there………….

So, February will bring Heart Monitor News of PVCS and NSVT and sinus rhythm’s.

THE BICYCLE TEST (stress test)WILL BRING MORE NEWS.

MY VALENTINE has already asked me what I want to do!

WHAT DO I WANT TO DO?HELP ME OUT I HAVE NO CLUE!

I HAVE PURCHASED BIG BOXES OF SEE’s CANDIES for the cardiology TEAM that deals with me.

Other than that I will continue my SPRING CLEANING and CLEAN OUT.

YOU ALL BE WELL AND THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS……….each day the news is WORSE.SO MANY EVIL PEOPLE OUT THERE.WE ALL BELONG HERE and WE ALL WERE TAUGHT HOW TO BE KIND AND CARING.

LET’s RAMP IT UP and USE IT.

XXX

TO LEAVE ME A COMMENT SCROLL DOWNWARDS.

SPRING IS COMING NEXT MONTH and hopefully I have MORE GOOD NEWS!

Oh my! I have not been getting these like the ole days! Happy now! Love your cut ! The oranges are wonderful as you know I love them. I found a orange kitten I adored at pets smart. Asked to adopt him and was running to get everything for him at the house but did not have it “right” at the exact moment I spoke to the lady! Sadly she turned me down! I refrain further! Come help me weed out! I had surgery on my leg! Peroneal nerve often from crossing one’s legs forever as many do and Drs today, in my experience, run out so fast like the road runner before I can even ask my questions! My has medical changed! xo

I’m crossing my legs now!I can tell it cuts off my circulation!Bad habit but it feels good!
I know what you mean about doctors running out of the room!I donot experience that with the Cardiac Care Team which is extremely nice!
I’m down to maybe ONE BLOG a month so just check in from time to time! You take Care!

Yes, I was getting ready to buy ALL the stuff for a baby orange kitten. I have had LOTS of pets just not in awhile but could now. I could not believe that woman cause I did not already have all the stuff! Weird! STOP or watch crossing your legs! Read about the peroneal nerve and guys get it too, fighters, wrestlers, etc getting hit in that area. DROP FOOT must be avoided!!

Delighted to hear about the improved numbers re heart health and hope more good news on the way. As I write this we are in Tenerife with friends enjoying sunshine. The weather back home in Ireland is still dreadful. There seems to be no le-up in the rain. At this rate we will need an ark. xxx

    Dearest Contessa,

It is always such a treat to find you in my inbox! I love the granddog pictures – he is such a regal fellow. I love that all of the critters get along.

Congratulations on your good heart news! If I am not being too bold here, please consider asking your doctor for a mild anti-depressant. They work wonders, and it sounds like you would benefit. Hope that’s not overstepping,.

Good for you on the closet clean-out! I need to continue doing that, but it also extends to the rest of the house, in my case.

I need to do it all over; so I want to say, you are an inspiration. So many of us turn to you to see how you handle normal situations. And we are thankful. I am so happy that I found you, Dear Contessa!

Good news that you medicine is working and your echo cardiogram results are better!

I am jealous that your hair looks so good without coloring it. Enjoy not having to spend the money and time on coloring your hair – and not having harmful dyes seeping into your scalp.

I’m getting a nice closet system installed in my master walk-in closet in 2 weeks. The handyman comes in 1 week to rip out the existing builder’s basic closet system, patch and paint. I will go through everything in my closet and donate or consign a lot of clothing and shoes – if I haven’t worn it in 3 years, I never will, so out it goes. I don’t know what I am looking forward to more – the new closet system or purging and reorganizing our clothes, shoes and handbags.

The best news 50!! (Also wish it was our ages : ) Very inspired by your closet caper.. mine is a small disaster. Not enough space and too many work clothes.. so the deep dive will wait until I retire. It will be years before I get through the closets, garage, and file cabinets. But will keep me occupied : ) It has been freezing in FL.. so many of our plants have been burned by the freeze–in the 20’s some nights! Reminded me that I could never live full-time in New England again, but will always miss the fall. Love all the photos.. the portrait of Diesel should be submitted to a contest… he seriously looks human. Love all the bits and bobs of your posts, always look forward to seeing what my favorite Contessa is up to : ) Sending XO’s

Love your hair Elisabeth. Mine was originally chestnut in color, started coloring it with blond streaks until it became mostly blond and grey, now it is totally silver (I am 84). My hair is my strongest feature. So glad to hear your health news. Gaining a little weight now is good for you, especially as we age. I was normally quite slim now a size 10 on a 5’8 frame. My Dr. says my weight is perfect for my health. I, too, cleaned out my closet last month. I love theater. When I saw Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages I wanted to live in that story. Adore all your animals, past and present. We are lucky aren’t we.

I’m so excited for the heart numbers! Best news in weeks!
I’m clearing out a few things as my bedroom is getting a complete makeover (paint and baseboard guy is coming today). The toughest for me are the pieces that I made – usually for special occasions. There is no way I’m any universe that they will fit me again. But they are beautiful and remind me of special times. That will include the orange caftan I made specifically for your birthday celebration. I don’t wear caftans so it will be in my closet as a reminder.
Hoping for more good heart news soon!

      Hi Contessa,
I’m very happy for your higher number from your test. I can imagine how thrilled you were. Low blood pressure can make you very tired.
Huge congratulations for cleaning out your closet. You must had been so fed up or feeling well enough to tackle such a huge job.
Your fur children are sweet, they bring you immense joy.
I understand finding the right pads, I’ve been through so many different brands and kinds. I have an all cotton one and seems to be working swell. The lower extremity issue. I use Aquaphor Healing Ointment, advanced therapy on the outside, never on the inside. It should soothe the tender and itching. Make sure your pad is on. It can make a mark on your touché area. I have never heard of the Cora Pads, yes keep us posted. Also you probably buy the good potty paper at Costco. We only and have always only purchased Charmin ultra soft potty paper.
Good luck with your up and coming medical appointments.
We lost a dear family member this past Monday, February 2 on my master gardener’s birthday. Then a dear friend of mine passed away. It’s been a hard month.
I pray for Nancy Guthrie. I’m a huge fan and follower of Savannah Guthrie. Tucson is close to two hours from where we live. It’s a laid back community and probably more progressive in someways than Scottsdale and Phoenix.
      Stay safe out there.
