My Dearest Contessa,
Here goes…
I am beyond honored and thrilled that you asked me to be a part of your AGELESS STYLE SERIES!
Hildie started out as an illustration I did 30 years ago for my grandmother who I adored. In the drawing, Hildie had a high powdered wig, a very long cigarette and she was wearing a pearl choker. My grandmother had it on her bedroom wall for years. I later redrew her for greeting cards that I would send out to friends and family. In 2015, I played around with the character, named her Hildie, dressed her in the Versace safety pin dress and started an Instagram account. The reaction was so positive that I just kept going.
I am 54 years old, married with a 15 year old son and an 11 year old daughter. We have a little rescue dog named Nacho.
INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT IS HILDIE PLUMPEPPER.
IT IS TIME ONCE AGAIN FOR OUR AGELESS STYLE SERIES!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I would describe it as a fashion cocktail with a mix of vintage and thrift, a shot of classic with a pinch of tomboy and a feminine maraschino cherry thrown in.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
I’m always inspired by fashion in film. Whether it’s Kate Beckinsale in “Serendipity” in a black beret and trenchcoat, Meg Ryan in “French Kiss” wearing a striped top and khakis, or Diane Wiest in “Hannah and Her Sisters” wearing a man’s overcoat with rhinestone pins, movies always inspire me.
WHAT ACCESSORY CAN YOU NOT DO WITHOUT?
I love my Warby Parker glasses. Since I got them I haven’t worn contacts. I like the bold frame as a contrast to my newly gray hair. I always wear an oversized men’s styled watch. I never take off my beautiful rings designed by my Maui style twin, my cousin Susie. I also always wear my Birabiro (I found her on Instagram!) bracelet with the engraving “NEVERTHELESS, SHE PERSISTED”. As a cousin of Susan B. Anthony, that piece speaks to me, in the spirit of unstoppable strong women.
FAVORITE COLOR?
My favorite color is navy blue. I like wearing dark blue, it makes me feel put-together. I especially love a blue and white striped top. I guess I’m an east coast nautical girl at heart
.
DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE PIECE THAT DEFINES YOUR STYLE?
I love a classic white button down shirt. Dressed up or down I can always depend on it when I’m at a loss for what to wear. It can be boyish or feminine. Turn up the collar, add some great jewelry and I’m good to go.
WHAT ARE YOUR STYLE STRENGTHS?
I’m not afraid to do a little DIY or “Project Runway” as I like to call it, to make a look work. I once used a pair of black nylon knee highs as an extra criss cross strap going up my ankle on a pair of heels. The shoes looked great and I got a number of compliments on my fabulous shoes. When I gave my sister a closer look at what I did she nearly fell over laughing.
DO YOU HAVE A STYLE ICON?
I love Jenna Lyons and want everything in her closet. She is master of the Fashion Cocktail. I also love the street style of Meg Ryan and Jennifer Aniston. That’s pretty much my day to day style, classic tomboy.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEAUTY ESSENTIALS?
I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 100. I have vitiligo and have to really protect my skin. I also use Jergen’s Natural Glow Moisturizer on my hands, arms and legs to add color to the areas that have lost pigment. It really works and it’s fab! I use Flower Cosmetics by Drew Berrymore. The formulations are fantastic without the price tag of the higher end brands and the foundations have a yellow undertone which is perfect for me.
DO YOU HAVE REPEAT OFFENDERS IN YOUR CLOSET?IF SO,WHAT ARE THEY?
I love my blazers! My closets are loaded with them. I’m a big thrift shopper so I’m always on the hunt for a fabulous jacket.
THE ORIGINAL INSPIRATION FOR HILDIE!
CIRCA 1983
JILL WAS 23 YEARS OLD when SHE DREW THIS!!!!!
YOUR CONTESSA IS ABSOLUTELY MAD ABOUT THIS DRAWING!
I LOVE IT ~ I LOVE IT ~ I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
WHAT ADVISE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN OVER 50 OR OVER 40?
My advice would be to not be afraid to take a step back and reassess your look when you feel like it’s just not working anymore. I could feel a shift happening a few years back and needed to purge a lot of my clothing. I pared it down and simplified my look with classics and basics that I could build on. My other advice would be to not be afraid to embrace your grays and go through that transition. It was a lot less painless than what I envisioned. I took the plunge and I’m never going back. I’m a year and a half in and when the gray reaches my shoulders, the ponytail is gone and I’ll get the last bit of dyed hair cut. Can’t wait!
DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE RULES THAT YOU LIVE BY?
I stick to what feels right for me. I like structure and anything too unstructured feels like pajamas to me. After all these years, I’ve learned what will make me feel put together.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONLINE SOURCES?
I generally don’t buy much of my clothing online, but when I do it’s usually for classic pieces at Gap or Banana Republic. When I’m creating a look for Hildie, I’ll look at Net-a-Porter, Saks, or Moda Operandi. For style advice I love KarenBritChick on YouTube. She is brilliant and will have you styling like a pro. I like Jane Aldridge’s blog Sea of Shoes. Her fashion collages helped me create a better basic wardrobe and I love seeing all her vintage finds. I’m also big fan of the fashion blog Le Catch.
DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR DESIGNER YOU ARE DRAWN TO?
I love Monse. They’re very fresh and mod. Mimi Plange has incredible shift dresses and really cool feminine pieces. I love the sleekness of Tom Ford. My inner rockstar loves Roberto Cavalli. I like Altuzarra, Alix of Bohemia, Temperley London…I have too may to name!
Well Darling, thank you for thinking of me! Your questions were so much fun!
Hildie sends her love!
XOXO, Jill

I adore Jill’s style; I can see her affinity for Jenna Lyon’s style too. Her beautiful grey hair and bold glasses would make any outfit sing, but I love how she mixes things together… she has real innate style.
What a treat to meet the lady behind Hildie… for some reason, I never thought of that, so I’m glad you did! Your posts never disappoint, my friend! xx
Hi Lisa. My dear, this is such a compliment coming from one as stylish as yourself!!!! Thank you Thank you! You made my day! I adore your style and love your ensembles! I love a good mix!!! I delighted you stopped by the fabulous Contessa’s blog!
XOXO, Jill
I think Jill’s description of her style is the best so far! Love it, and I can so relate to her mix of styles and clothing choices. Thanks for introducing me, I was especially charmed by her story behind Hilde, I also had a fashionable Grandma that I loved for her dyed black hair, shocking red lipstick and bold jewelry. I can’t wait to stop by her Instagram account. Thank you Jill for sharing your brand of classic-mixed-with-fun chic, I’m inspired again to hit my favorite SoCal vintage shops!
xo
Leslie
Hi Leslie.Thank you so much for your lovely comments! I’m so happy to hear that I inspired you to hit some vintage shops! I got the vintage bug when I was in high school and it’s never left. I love finding a unique piece that’s totally wearable. I hope you do check out Ms Hildie on Instagram! I have lots of fun fashion ideas for some upcoming posts!
I love her artwork. And she is so darn cute. Thank you for sharing, dear Contessa. {Was in Firenze Yesterday, and thinking of YOU}. Off to Asia, back in Firenze end of Feb. XXXO R

She has a lot coming up…Valentine’s Day, the Oscar’s, the Met Gala….

XOXO, Jill
Just when I think it cannot get any better, well, it does, Contessa! I love that Jill is letting her hair go silver. For years we persuaded my mother to keep dyeing her hair. Then, she decided not to dye it any more. What regret we had that she had not done it sooner as it turned into a sparkling ice white colour with vague hints of her brunette past. I now look in the mirror and see streaks of silver and, as I’ve done all my life, wish so hard to look and be like my mother. Jill, your silver hair is just stunning. I am so inspired by your sense of style. I am a tailored blazer/jacket person myself so love how you combine pieces. I can hardly wait to be introduced to Hildie. What fun! Contessa, you’ve done it again in spades! Ann
Hello Ellie’s Canadian Friend! Oh thank you so much for all your sweet comments! We Silver girls need all the encouragement we can get to stay on the silver track! I have to say, I really do love it although some days I look in the mirror and think, “is that me?!!” And you are a fellow jacket girl! I wish I could wear one every day…I better move to a climate where that’s possible! I hope you do follow Hildie on Instagram! I have too many ideas and not enough time!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Jill is DIVINE…but Hildie is DIVINE ++ I want a BOOK. The original drawing is my MOST favorite… I can also imagine this image becoming an iconic cartoon character with remark or thought swirling in a cloud of smoke from her elegant cigarette holder… featured in The New Yorker magazine… a Phyllis Diller-like commentator of current events (one can only imagine what she might say : ) … this was SO MUCH FUN to read!! Bravo to you and Cindy for finding such extraordinarily talented women!! It is an absolute treat and delight to read about them…XO
Hello D.A. Squires! I just clicked on your name and saw your wonderful artwork, books and adorable pets!!! You are so talented! Thank you so much for your lovely comments! It’s wonderful to have the support from fellow artists! I’m so glad that the fabulous Contessa and Cindy do this feature on their blogs every month! It’s so much fun and it was a blast to be apart of it!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Jill, I hope you are thinking long and hard about what you want for Ms. Hildie. She could have a late-in-life career (okay not ‘late’ – maybe ‘later’ is the better word) if she so chose. Maybe she needs an agent?? Just sayin’…
Hi Mithra! Oh I love your comment! Thank you! Yes, Hildie needs an agent! She sees product endorsements and brand ambassador in her future! She probably just wants some free merchandise!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Hi Debra. Thank you so much! I usually feel like my style is whatever gets me out the door and feeling like myself! This was so much fun for me to do! Isn’t that Contessa just fabulous?!!!!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Love, love, love this post, Jill and Hildie! Jill really brings Hildie to life. The best thing about Hildie is that she isn’t a supermodel. Jill, reading about how you came to draw Hilde is fascinating, and I’m with Contessa on how much i adore the illustration of your grandmother. It’s fabulous! Even though Hildie isn’t real, she inspires me with every new outfit. Hildie is one of the most stylish ladies I know. Jill, you are so fun and creative and I love how you describe your/her style. I feel like I’m a little of all of those too, especially the tomboy part. So appreciate getting to know you a little better Jill! Thank you for featuring her Contessa!! XOXO
Hi Cherie! Ms Hildie could learn a thing or two I’m sure from the Style Nudge herself! Oh Cherie, thank you so much for your wonderful comments! You know, I really do get such inspiration on Instagram from the fabulous women, including you, who have fun with fashion and stay true to themselves. I adore your style and I’m sure Hildie would just love to raid your closet!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill

ALSO-FIRENZE is my favorite city in the WHOLE world. COME- I will show you all.seriously, I would love it, Robin
How inspirational! I totally relate to Jill’s style and would like to up my game to embrace the scarves. She does them brilliantly. The drawings are wonderful!! Thanks for the lovely share here, Contessa. ‘Eau-de teacup piggy’ sounds like a unique and enticing scent. ;0
Hi Lisa. Thank you so much! I’m delighted you enjoyed Ms Hildie! I’ll let you in on a little secret…those weren’t scarves…they’re men’s ties! I started wearing them when Annie Hall made them popular. I think they make great belts too and you can always find them in fabulous colors and patterns!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
I was away for a few days so did not get to look. Love Hildie and Jill now…I am so happy to meet the woman behind Hildie…a style icon herself. Will be going back to have another read later. Jill you too are fabulous…Thank you La Contessa..x
Hilda! Hilda meet Hildie! I’m so glad you stopped by the fabulous Contessa’s blog! Only the Contessa could get me out of hiding! How could I say no?!!! And thank you for you’re sweet comment.

Dearest Contessa, The moment I saw your Instagram post about Hildie I went straight to her account and pressed FOLLOW! I ADORE the name, Hilide Plumpepper! What style! Now that I’ve read about Jill I adore her too. And, I’m all about her style, although I don’t pull it off with the same panache. Will continue to study and learn. Jumping over to Amazon to order Jergen’s Natural Glow right NOW! xo
Juliet, thank you so much! I’m so delighted to hear you’ll be following Ms Plumpepper! You’ll have to DM me on Instagram and I’ll fill you in on how I came up with Hildie’s name. Oh I hope you like the Jergen’s Natural Glow! I recently tried the version for your face and I love it! It gives me a hint of color which I love for this time of year.
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
SURELY Ms. Hildie has a series of books about all of her adventures…….If not… WHY NOT?!!!!
LOVE your style and your SILVER hair. I too let go of the hair dye YEARS ago-AMEN:)
Hi Val! Yes, a Hildie book! That’s the dream! Thank you so much! And you are a Silver Sister! I”ll never go back to hair dye either! I’m hoping that in a few months I’ll be able to cut the last bit of hair dye off the ends and I’ll be a full head of silver!
Another fabulous blog!! Elizabeth you do have an uncanny knack of finding the most interesting people and Jill is no exception. I love her illustrations and have been following her on IG. You NEVER disappoint Elizabeth! XX

I MUST SKIP over to SHOP your INVENTORY!
XX
I love this post! Jill is so chic, so unique and yet classic! It is so nice to see real women who dress their age and have grace, and style and are an inspiration especially in the age of Instagram where there is so much of the same look. Sadly I think sometimes Instagram makes people think they have to have a certain look for themselves and their houses. Thank goodness you discovered an original just like you!
I cannot wait to follow Jill on Instagram and to see more of Ms. Hildie!
Hi Elizabeth! Oh my goodness, you are so sweet! It is such an honor to be on the Contessa’s blog and I agree, I love seeing how real women dress and finding out what inspires them. I’m delighted that you’ll be following Hildie and her adventures in fashion!
XOXO, Jill
Miss Alyson Walsh! I am a huge fan of your blog! I’m loving all the gray hair inspiration you’ve been posting lately! We girls transitioning need all the encouragement we can get! Thank you for stopping by the Contessa’s blog and checking out Ms Hildie!

Hi Mary. I’m so glad you enjoyed this post from the fabulous Contessa! I’m delighted that you’ll be following Ms. Hildie’s fashion mishaps and adventures!
XOXO, Jill
Dear Neighbor Contessa,
After doing more research, I have decided the color of your scarf is Citron. Android Green and Apple Green were close. Of course, I could be totally off. I have two newish tops in that color so I must be drawn to it.
CITRON!
LOVE THAT NAME and YES I think YOU might be CORRECT!THANK YOU for the RESEARCH!!!!!!!! I LOVED the color SAMPLES you sent to me via the INTERNET!I hope to see you in one SOON!
XX
Jill, I love your style and agree with just about all your comments! My ah ha moment came though when I saw the photo of your bracelets, etc….. the porcelain Marie Antoinette is the exact one I got from my 93 year old mother when she went to heaven
( maybe….maybe not!) last year! I just got her out of the donation box and they are twins. Now I know what I can use her for! The fingers are broken off one of her hands but it won’t matter when she is decked out in bracelets! Thank you and I am so looking forward to following you on Instagram!
Hi Debbie! Oh I’m so glad you liked this post! I can not believe you have the very same Marie Antoinette! Isn’t it charming?! Mine has a hand broken off but I think it somehow adds to her charm. I think I picked it up at a garage sale a few years back. Thank you for following me on Instagram! Hildie has lots more fashion mishaps and adventures to come!
XOXO, Jill
Simply fabulous post! My feet hit the floor running- to my crammed closet w nothing to wear!! I’m a mad woman throwing things on every chair!!! A new year and need fresh inspiration!’ Thank you for getting me started. I’m so excited and can’t wait to read more. From both of you. And the sketch is a treasure!
Hi Elizabeth! Oh dear, I hope I didn’t get you into a tizzy! I hope the end result of the closet re-think turns out fabulous! I still have my moments of the dreaded nothing to wear! I’m so glad you visited the Contessa’s blog and I hope you check out Ms Hildie! It’s funny, I can always find something for HER to wear!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Contessa, Love this series so much you and Cindy do. So excited to learn about Jill and Hildie! I am now following her. She has terrific style. Especially love her jacket with that Pretender’s shirt. That is my kind of look. Please keep sharing more stylish gals this age. It’s a million times better than any celeb. Love to see how real women look great and more about their lives. xo Kim
Hi Kim. Thank you so much! I’m also so glad our dear Contessa and Cindy feature real women every month! I’m always interested in how other women dress and what inspires them. Oh, and that jacket! My sister found it at a thrift store and I think it’s from the 60’s. She ended up giving it to me because I wouldn’t shut up about it. And the Pretender’s shirt is from 1981!!!!
XOXO, Jill
Hello Chicatanyage…my new Instafriend! You are such a delight in your photos! Thank you so much my dear! Yes, I love the way Meg Ryan dresses when she’s out and about. Very tomboy. I’m a jeans and boots kinda girl on most days and I love when her personal style carries over to some of her roles.
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
I’m an old friend of Hildie my Sweetheart we know since a long time and it’s before 1983 and had been always a big fan and old friend to her and now it’s among to read all this about Jill. so puppet player behind the scene! Compliment and love it very much what I read!
And btw – your white hair is awesome like Hildie’s and think you will be an Icon for many other women to follow this way!
Oh Gerold! How I adore you! I’m sure Hildie won’t mind if I take some time to tell you what a delight you are! Hildie has told me many stories, (most I can’t even reveal!) of those young and carefree days, dancing at clubs till the early hours and the fabulous parties! Thank you Gerold, for being such a loyal fashion friend to our dear Hildie! You will forever be her “Denim Darling”!
Cheers Love!

Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Hildie has been one of my favorite Instagram accounts for some time. Who else would think about have a cat named Roddy Mcdowell hanging off a strand of Hildies pearls or peeking out of her picnic basket? He’s a perfectly mischievous match for Hildie’s knock ‘me dead approach to fashion. Each drawing and fashion post Jill submits to 1010ParkPlace makes me smile and laugh, and every time I’m in awe of the detail and her creativity! It’s been a joy getting to know Jill and now with these great photos of her, it’s easy to see how Hildie found her fashion sense! Thank you, Jill for sharing more about Hildie each month on 1010ParkPlace! I love you my darling! Brenda

Brenda! You have been one of the fantastic highlights of this whole Hildie idea!!! I am forever grateful that you took a chance on me! It has been so rewarding in so many ways! Artistically, doing the blog post every month has made me stretch my boundaries and helped me to be a little more fearless in what I think I can do. The support and openness for women who visit your blog, is a wonderful and remarkable thing. Love you, my chic and stylish friend!
XOXO, Jill
Hi Elizabeth,
Hildie/Jill does a Fashion Friday blog once a month on 1010ParkPlace and she’s chic and knows the best brands which includes up and coming ones. Style Nudge, Cherie James, does one week s month and I do teo Fashion Friday’s each month in addition to my seeking Brenda’s Blog which has a click thru rate of over 50% which is unheard of! Why is my blog so popular? I’d love for you all to subscribe and check it out! XOXO, Brenda
Love it! The original “Hildie” drawing is awesome. Love the detail. And I liked learning about Jill’s style and preferences. We use some of the same things! It was fun learning how Hildie came to life. Great piece.
The Gorgeous Miss Cocoa Popps! Thank you my beautiful friend! You are such a pleasure to follow on Instagram! I’m so glad we found each other!
XOXO, Jill
This has to be my favorite post in this series! I absolutely adore Jill Anthony and Hilde. I find my style is evolving from a tailored look to more of a lagenlook multiple layered ensemble. However I find inspiration in all sorts of styles and like Jill, I find items to mix and change up my wardrobe. I love Karen Brit Chick on YouTube. She is a styling guru, again mixing new with vintage, high end and thrifted, basics with panache. As a new member of the fabulous force fifties club, I have embraced going grey. It’s been a year into my process, even though I was afraid it might age me, I find I like the contrast with my monochromatic wardrobe. Now… to get a pair of Warbury Parker glasses.
Thank you Jill for sharing your style and Hilde with us. Thank you dear Contessa for showcasing these remarkable women who inspire us!
Oh Audra, you’re a doll! Thank you! Don’t you love KarenBritChick?!!! I’m always inspired after watching her videos. Welcome to your fabulous fifties my dear! I have found such a loving supportive group of fantastic older women through Instagram and wonderful blogs like this! Oh and it’s so good to hear we have another Silver Sister! Hang in there! I still look in the mirror and think oh my…what I’m I doing?!!! I find silver girls on Instagram to keep me going!

Wow, love this post and Jill is gorgeous! Love her hair, style and attitude! Her jewellery is also super cool which would suit me perfectly! Her artwork is also fabulous! Love the humor, creativity and great design in them.
Karen, Thank you so much! You are so sweet! I’m flattered you like my hair. I stopped coloring a year and a half ago and I do sometimes look in the mirror and think ‘what are you doing?!!!” I’ll keep going though and your comment helps!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Jill, you’re so welcome! Yes, your hair is gorgeous! Keep it that way as it’s perfect for you. My hair is colored a light blond but as it grows out it looks the same so I can perhaps stop having it colored in a year or two.
Your illustrations are so cool! I’m also an artist which you can see on my Instagram account.
Oh yes, can’t wait to meet you in May when I travel to CA! I’ll bring the watercolor of you, of course! I’ve been in the Netherlands for 46 years now! Came here to study art. Jill, I hope we get to meet, too!
Thanks for following me back, Jill! And thanks for the compliments about my hair! xoxo
Jill and I were best friends in High School and we perused many a thrift shop as teens. We lost touch when we both went off to different art schools. Many years later thanks to social media, Instagram mostly, we have reconnected. I am here to tell you that she has always been this fashionable and except for her graying hair, hardly seems to be aging. I too adore Hildie and loved this interview! Thank you!
OH CHRISTINE!
Do tell me your INSTAGRAM HANDLE!!!!!!
The social media stuff has BEEN GREAT for RE-CONNECTING!I AGREE……….
SO, HAPPY you could ADD to the INTERVIEW!!
HIGH SCHOOL seems like YESTERDAY to me and I’m OLDER THAN YOU TWO!

Hello Christine! Thanks Girl! As I remember, it was you my fashionable friend, who got me into Vogue magazine AND it was you, who wore gorgeous chic silk blouses in HIGH SCHOOL, while I was wearing some hideous polyester printed blouse! Remember our white cropped waiter’s jackets we bought at Daybreak in Albany?! I wish I still had it!!!! Well, I think you had a huge influence on my fashion style and introduced me to what was beyond Seventeen mag! Oh we were partners in crime!!! Thank you my Gorgeously Fab Way Talented Friend!!!!
Christine! I remember the tailcoat!!!! You still have it…oh you lucky girl! That is so cool! Isn’t there a yearbook photo of you in it? I’m recalling a photo of you in the hallway with a hat and jacket, maybe white shirt and necktie. Your high school fashion game was high Girl! Now we are just more elegant versions of that…or at least I try to convince myself of that!
Have been so inspired by your blog post today Contessa!
The divine Jill Anthony is such a stylish lady with a great strength of character.I really feel my confidence growing in great leaps, thanks to Jill’s naturally down to earth, candid approach,to both fashion & beauty, her willingness to share her style tips so very refreshing. From a Natural glow moisturiser to a 100 SPF sunscreen I was hooked.
The DIY style fix was truly a source of brilliance!

Oh Lucinda! Thank you so much for your kind words! So glad you liked my DIY shoe fix! Hey, you never know where you’ll find inspiration! Hold on to your knee highs Ladies, you may need them in a pinch! I’m especially glad you’ll be following Hildie in her fashion adventures!

Hi Loree. Oh been there, done that. None of my boho, cutesie tees or trendy pieces were working anymore. It didn’t fit my new attitude, mature face or hair anymore. I don’t feel that i dress any older, it’s just a little more pared down and refined, with a few fey items to kick things up a notch. Good luck my dear!
XOXO, Jill
MAYBE LOREE, that is what YOU NEED to do……….you are ABOUT THAT AGE when things start to CHANGE shall we say!Jill…….Loree lives on an ISLAND!
A BIG ISLAND called MALTA!!!!!!

Contessa I loved this interview, Jill is so amazing! Her grey hair looks beautiful and her style… I love it! Love Hildie and all of the drawings too and I have to get to my IG account so I can follow her. As usual a wonderful blog post Contessa which completely brightened my day and inspired me. Thank you Dear! xx
Hi Dani. You’re too kind! Thank you so much! Oh I hope you do get an IG account. I have found an amazing group of fabulous, insightful older women through it. That’s where the Contessa and I found each other!
XOXO, Jill
Jill is positively darling! She really rocks her gray hair – really stunning! I adore her style. I spent over 2 hours at Warby on Saturday and could not find a pair of specs that looked nearly as cute on me as they do on Jill. I look forward to following Ms Hildie! Fabulous interview of a fascinating lady. Well done, Contessa!!!
Hi Katie. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I tried the home try-on with Warby Parker where they send you five pairs to try and nothing worked. I took measurements of my reading glasses which I thought looked good on me and that’s how I decided on this pair. Good luck with your search! I’m so glad you’ll be following Hildie’s fashion adventures!
XOXO, Jill
I love this post! Hers is s style I can aspire to! I love crisp white shirts and glasses and gray/white hair (but you knew that). Now I just need to get some of that Jergens moisturizer and check out Drew Barrymore’s cosmetics line. See, Elizabeth, there’s hope for me yet!
Hi Pat. You are so sweet, thank you! I love gray hair and bold glasses too and decided that maybe that will be my new thing. Oh you will love Flower cosmetics! She just came out with some new award winning blushes that are gorgeous! Enjoy!
XOXO, Jill
ADORE Hildie Plumpepper! She is my kind of style high-stepper. We seem to shop at all the same places….net-a-porter, moda operandi, was Neiman Marcus mentioned??? These illustrations are brilliant and I am a new fan of Hildie’s. Jill and Hildie have been a revelation to me. I was so eager to read this post as I had not heard of them before your Blog “tease” on IG. I am familiar with many of the icons and blogs Jill mentioned….. Sea of Shoes (one of my first HELLO to STYLE discoveries) for example. All Hildie is missing is one spectacular little pig like Banksy…not that would be a style statement like no other! Thank you for introducing me to this incredibly talented illustrator and to Hildie! I am checking out the other references Jill mentioned. As always Elizabeth, I leave knowing something more and I am inspired to try something new…love these posts!
Oh Lisa, you are so sweet! Thank you so much! I think Sea of Shoes was one of the very first fashion blogs I took a peek at, and she was just a kid! I loved when her mom, Judy Aldridge, would post her fashion style on her blog Atlantis Home, but she pretty much sticks to home decor now. I’m so glad the Contessa has this fabulous blog and to be a small part of it! Your comments give me encouragement and joy, and keep me inspired!
Cheers,
XOXO, Jill
Jill, I just spent the last hour watching,
KarenBritChick………..ordered the very last, black balloon sleeve sweater she mentioned on her last video from TopShop. The only one left was my size! I am SO loving her!
More, more more.I adore this brilliant woman. What a talented and unique illustrator. Do you realize she has an illustrative style all of her own? Where is her work featured beside on 1010ParkPlace? Is she in national publications?
Adore her sense of style. Had no idea she had grey hair. Does she have a website? If not why? Love the way she dresses. Also, she looks like she’s 18. Her clothes and look are so personal. Like no one else. I want to see and know more. Where can we find out more about Jill? Tell us more Jill. Do you work as an illustrator? Where can your work be seen? Do you mainly feature Hildie in your illustrations? I adore your work and can see it n a book. Would love cards to buy. More, more, more.
Sandra! Oh my gosh, you are so sweet! Oh that Contessa! When she came knocking I knew I couldn’t hide out anymore! The only place Hildie appears right now is on Brenda’s blog. I don’t have a website yet. So far, I’ve just done Instagram which has been so fabulous! I started Hildie with just a few illustrations and the feedback was so encouraging that I just kept going. As far as my hair, I’m a year and a half in with going gray. I figured, if Hildie can wear her gray proudly so can I! Thank you my dear for all your wonderful support!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
She has such an impish smile. All these women you have featured seem like people I would love to hang out with.
I love her style–it’s very similar to what I wear but she is more put together (less lazy? gets out more?) than me. I am jealous of her skin.
Dear Taste of France, you made me laugh! When the fabulous Contessa said show us what you wear, I had to pull my inner stylist out…she doesn’t get out much! Maybe the two of us should hang out! We’ll make it easy and wear jeans! Thank you my dear!
Cheers!
XOXO, Jill
Dear Vintage Contessa,
Thank you for featuring one of my favorite IG friends! I love and am inspired by @hildieplumpepper…now I adore Jill Anthony and learning so much more about her. It is always an enjoyable pleasure to learn more about a favorite person…but truly a joyous fun when you learn that your style “crush” has so many similar likes and influences as your own. This was a delightful and fabulous interview.
Oh Brenda, not only are you ultra chic but also so kind and supportive! I have found such a wonderful group of smart stylish women through Instagram who are an inspiration and you are one of my faves!!! Hildie is who she is because of the ideas, love and support from fabulous women like you!
XOXO, Jill
I was up super early this morning waiting for 7 am to come around and your blog post to go Live! I really wanted to see if I could be #1 on the comment page. That is because I’m absolutely in LOVE with Heidi Plumpepper! And this post did not disappoint. Heidi is certainly a perfect reflection of her Artist. Great way to Start the Day!
Oh Diana, you are so sweet! Thank you so much! The love and positivity always give me encouragement and inspiration to come up with new and fun things for Ms. Hildie!
My favorite so far!!! I love her style. I can certainly take some lessons from her and I love her gray hair of course!! I adore the black shirt in the picture of her at her easel. Do you think she would share the source? You were so smart to take a chance on her. What a fabulous interview. Well done Contessa!!
Hi Cindy. Thank you so much! I was a little hesitant to put myself out there, but how can you say no to the fabulous Contessa! As far as the black shirt, I found it at a thrift shop a year ago in NYC, so I’m really not sure how old it is. It’s by Philosophy. It has these really great sleeves that puff out at the elbows. I love it because I can dress it up or dress it down.
Cheers my dear!
XOXO, Jill
