Moving Stuff Around

January 22, 2025 60 Comments

Little Miss sitting in her closet playing with her tablet.

Theodore catching a few rays of sunshine through the window panes.

BEFORE PHOTO of what this wall looked liked in the past.

THE AFTER LOOK………Still room for ONE MORE!

BEFORE LOOK across on the other side of the kitchen table.

THE OLD CHICKEN COOPS HAVE GONE TO MY YOUNGEST SON.

Which makes me so happy as these were their EASTER BASKETS many years ago.

He takes after his MOTHER in the COLLECTING DEPARTMENT!

He may even SURPASS ME!

TODAYS NEW LOOK.

A CALMER more PASTORAL LOOK.

Which is the EPITOME of ME!

A CLOSE UP of a BLUE EYED LADY.

Detail of portrait.

I adore the cracks and the strokes of paint from light to dark.

Almost smudges.

Do you see the detail when you look at a painting or does your eye take the image in without zeroing in on color and detail?I tend to FORCE myself to SLOW DOWN and take in the details.

More OLD items, but NEW to me added from my late STEP Mother.

Looking straight out into the back garden.I should have put these photos side by side.

This one and the one below.

This cow painting I may have to pass on to another COW FANATIC!

Upper RIGHT.

ANYONE INTERESTED if I do decided to RELEASE?

Laser ACCURATE with installation.

I was afraid we would not have the room for all of her portraits but with THE ITALIAN’s “STEP UP” LOOK all fit, but one portrait which easily went into my office has changed the AMBIANCE for the BETTER!

I tend to do the MORE IS MORE look not on purpose but because I have feelings for things from the past.I have an instagram buddy who told me she coined a word called “STUFFICATION” to describe all the things that she had accumulated. Then she proceeded to say………”YOU my Dear have made it an ART!”

I had a shop for years and held on to some of the stuff that I still had when I closed it.I realize I will never have a shop again nor do shows so maybe it’s OKAY TO PART WITH A FEW ITEMS.Again that is hard for me as I need to match the items with a NEW HOME that would appreciate it.I do not have the sensibility to put stuff in a BOX and pass on for another TREASURE SEEKER TO DISCOVER!

THATS MY MAJOR DEFECT!

A fun little TIDBIT.

May I ask your opinion of the AGE of this WOMAN?

I will tell YOU in my next POST!

TO COMMENT ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS KEEP SCROLLING DOWNWARDS.

XXX

TOODLES,

YOUR CONTESSA

Tigre was very interested in this painting!

So, he placed himself in front of it!

I had a good chuckle over it and somehow managed to get a photo!

MY LITTLE ANIMAL KINGDOM!

I’m closing down the bar with this one – I somehow missed this post. This was SO fun! I always enjoy glimpses of your home. The little princess is ADORABLE – she looks so much like you. I know you and Giampiero are enjoying her so much. I love that your casa is like an art museum, surrounded by a garden. It’s so pretty the way it’s all situated. Your collections are a feast for the eyes. I cracked up over the kitty admiring the painting, then posing in front of it. And the two of them shredding the tablecloth; not really funny if it’s your own, I suppose. Your friend looks to be in her 40s – I cannot believe anyone would say 70-something, that’s insane! I did read the newer post first, so know her age, but I would never have guessed it. She’s a pretty thing. Taking good care of our skin is a requirement. How nice that you are still in touch.

Be well and take extra good care of yourself. I thought of you when I got all of the recent announcements for the Nashville Home and Garden Show and wished we could have met up there – maybe next year! Much love to you.

The pictures are wonderful, what a display. I agree it is all in the details and textures. I am one who always takes time in a gallery to look at those details closely. Your collections reflect you and it is so hard to part with things that have been with us for many years.
The photo of your little granddaughter is so precious.
    Hope you are well. xx

hello LA CONTESSA, what a stunning new collection of ‘old’ art! I love old portraits and believe I follow Period Portraits on Instagram. The Italian did a perfect job of hanging all of them. The collection adds a truly Italian vibe to your home–like an old Tuscan ranch house that resides in the hills with Sunflowers galore. So beautiful. Did we see a pic of your office with the one new painting in there? Or is that the one Tigre is posing with? I love that one, too.
The blonde in the pic I think is in her early 50’s. She is beautiful no matter what age however if she is older I certainly hope she will be spilling some secrets to looking young.
Enjoy your art and your little cutie of a granddaughter.

Edit Edit Edit! That perfect look where your eye rests and smiles. Does not always mean less just refined. I to have trouble rehoming things I’ve loved. If I know the objects will be loved and valued it’s a joy.
Love that your son (that shares your passion) took the ‘Easter Baskets’ home. Perfect example.
Well mini you is right at home in her special spot. How adorable is that. Now that’s a portrait.
    Theodore knows the good spots.
Tigre shares your love of fine art, I see.
Looks like Retirement has fringe benefits for you. He did a very good job with that laser. Lucky you.
Hope you are feeling well and new doctor working out. Please keep us posted if you can. Hopefully 2025 continues to be good to you. Off to a great start.

DEE you know me so well yet we have never met!
Oh the medical DRAMA continues here………yesterday had a bad experience with my MD’s office.I may have to take a drive today and go up to customer service it was that BAD!The CARDIOLOGIST has not responded to my message from over two weeks ago where I corrected her on the meds I take!Wanting to make sure she was okay with that………her office calls me this coming MONDAY!Meanwhile she has up my water intake to THREE LITERS A DAY which means I have a hard time leaving the CASA to run out and do errands. She believes the more water I drink that I will FEEL BETTER.
Still waiting for that to happen. Meanwhile at the grocery store two days ago I walked the entire store aisle by aisle slowly noticed I was feeling light headed and decided I needed to check out IMMEDIATELY!As I was standing there waiting for my turn thought I was going to pass out.Eye Sight went.Holding on to cart.I managed to get things on the belt and pay before I really thought I should ask for HELP!I did not as that would have put me into a TAIL SPIN.The embarrassment and reality that I was going down onto the floor would horrify me.I got outside and weighed my options. Get to the car or stand there were people will find me!I went for the car.Opened both windows and breathed.Sat there for 20 minutes.Still not feeling great decided it was NOW or NEVER and took off for home.I made it!Left with headache rest of the day.Out of SORTS.MAD and terribly SAD that NO one can figure this out!

    Hi Elizabeth,
I admire your portrait gallery of “ancestors”. They are very elegant!
If no one has claimed it yet, the cow painting would be perfect in my laundry room – which has pastorals and a large cow head on the wall (not real of course!!) It’s “cow themed” so to speak, just glad I have machines that do the work, unlike the ladies in the time of my paintings, slaving over the washboard and giant tubs of hot water.

I read somewhere that in general people ina museum spend less than 5 seconds looking at each painting. I try to absorb all the details and not feel rushed to move on. But often I’m afraid I’ll miss something if I don’t hurry along. Anyway, I do enjoy the details, brushstrokes etc.

Everything looks splendid in your casa, as always! Hoe your new year is off to a good start and that you feel well.
    Xo Heidi

I have dust!Yes, to baseboard heating and its been on A LOT this winter! Are you referring to the open pine cabinet in the kitchen or the enclosed cabinet behind THEODORE the BIG ORANGE CAT?The enclosed cabinet stays pretty clean behind the glass door.I do rinse the glasses before using them which is not often! The other open cabinet is for every day so I rotate them as much as possible to keep them clean.About twice a year I take them out of the cubbies and wipe down the wood.
I use champagne for water or juice so everything gets used at some point!Once a year I try to get rid of some glassware and of course one or two break along the way!YES, our roads are paved but NO SIDEWALKS.The house is from the 1940’s and my ITALIAN added our big kitchen and our bedroom so its a U in shape instead of an L typical ranch house……………as it was built.
      Hope that helps!

Hello Contessa, You have perfected the art of living with objects. I too have many things, and there must be some overlap, but somehow the effect you achieve is quite different. You have all those great paintings, while I specialize more in early photographs, although not too many are on display. Also, not having a house I consider permanent, I have concentrated on smaller items that will transport well, although I have found that even the tiniest items eventually take up boxes and boxes of space.

I love all your oil paintings! I inherited one from my first husband’s side of the family. His great, great… could be another great… grandmother, and they look so much alike. The nose and the high forehead, and I love the details of the lace on her dress. Like Tigre, Annie fixates on this oil painting (it’s over my bed) and a three-quarter life-sized Albert Watson photograph of Keith Richards for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine that’s in my living room. You have to wonder how animals reconcile people on the wall who don’t move. LOL! xoxox, Brenda

Wow, you are getting lots accomplished, it must feel so good. Must bring smiles of contentment. Now that your Italian is retired so many things will get done off that “honey do list.”
Your granddaughter is adorable, what a pretty smile. I bet you have lots of fun with her. She keeps you laughing, children are so honest. They have no filter yet so they tell you what end is up.
The ladies age is hard to say because I can’t really see the tops of her hands. That gives you a hint of what their age probably is.
I’m a poor judge of age. I think she is in her mid sixties, maybe older. If I guessed right do I get 5 ?????.

The Italian did a great job on hanging the paintings. I have never used measuring, but use what I call my dirty finger method. I figure out where I want the paintings, hold painting up and hang on to the attachment in back, and put my finger down which leaves a mark(gotta have them slightly dirty). In goes the nails, and it is amazing how well things turn out…ha, ha. Plaster horse hair walls are an issue of course, but like you I love endless art everywhere. A quick question…how in heavens name do you keep all those glasses so clean? I have no dishwasher, and that would be difficult for me to keep up. Glorious really. As always your place is so much fun, and one can never not find new things to look at and explore.

Good morning Contessa, Your stories are some of my favorites to read. Your love for animals is one reason and the other is your love of portraits and collections that make you happy. I raised my children on a dairy farm in Southern California and love cows. If you decide to pass on your pastoral painting with cows I would be interested.

Thank you, and have a lovely day!

    Jen

Your reorganization looks great! I have been dreaming of relocating to Italy if I were only 20 years younger. I’m in the process of reorganizing my entire
kitchen. I hope to make rapid progress. fingers crossed!!!!! Your granddaughter is still a “mini-you” so beautiful…

We are all worried about tariffs.
