I SAW this in VERANDA this MONTH and my MOUTH DROPPED.

The colors and BEAUTY of the DRAPES REALLY GOT TO ME!

NEVER MIND SHE IS A STUNNING LADY!

LOOK AT THAT COAT!

MY COUSIN HAD HER SIGN ONE OF HER BOOKS TO ME at a book signing AND SHE WROTE SOMETHING ABOUT ME KNOWING WHERE ALL THE GOOD ANTIQUE SHOPS WOULD BE IN CALIFORNIA!

I LOVED THAT!

THIS WAS YEARS AGO!

LATER I FOUND OUT SHE STAYED WITH MY COUSIN AT HER HOME!

THE SAME HOME WHERE MY SON WAS MARRIED A FEW MONTHS AGO!

I READ in VERANDA that she has a NEW BOOK COMING OUT in OCTOBER.

I ORDERED IT!

I had a RETURN TO NORDSTROMS and decided I could BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND POP IN AND LEAVE!

W R O N G!!!!!!!!!!!

I ALMOST ASKED THIS WOMAN WHO HELD THE PHONE UP HIGH BY HER HEAD TO GET THIS SHOT WHY?

MAYBE IT WAS THE BUILDING BEHIND ME SHE WANTED?

There definitely was NO one else around!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAS THERE?

I made MY RETURN and decided to have lunch at their restaurant.

They make a GREAT APPLE,FETA CHEESE, WALNUT SALAD for 600 calories!

IT’s BUFFET STYLE In case you were WONDERING!

MY TEXT MESSAGES go off and its MY BUDDETTE in WASHINGTON STATE saying and I quote,” My BFF from High School reports an ANTIQUEGODDESS(my code name on instagram) sighting in Downtown Walnut Creek!!(smiley face).

“YEP.”

“Tell her to say HELLO!!”

(As I start looking around the place.)

(Than a bell goes off.)

“Did she take MY PHOTO????”

“I Saw HER DO IT!!!!!”

“YOU DID?!”

“Hahahaha!!!”

I thought Why?

I almost said something as we passed in THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET!

Which I should have OR she should have as we both are headed over seas soon and I would have loved some company eating THAT salad and hearing about where in ITALY she is GOING!!!!!!!!

LESSON HERE………….ALWAYS SAY HELLO!

ESPECIALLY IF ITS ME PEOPLE!

I will be DELIGHTED TO BE RECOGNIZED or HORRIFIED like this DAY!!!!!

EITHER WAY I WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO MEET YOU!

Regardless,it made my DAY.

Proved to me NEVER Go OUT in PUBLIC half DRESSED as YOU NEVER KNOW WHO IS OUT THERE!

I BELIEVE this was the 10th time I have been RECOGNIZED from the BLOG or Instagram!

IT STUNNS ME EVERY SINGLE TIME AND PUTS A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE!

I get a BIG KICK out of HOW SMALL this WORLD REALLY TRUELY IS.

How many PEOPLE would FOLLOW a CONTESSA or a GODDESS who has a PIGGY that lives in THE HOUSE?

Seems like a a FEW of YOU DO and GET a KICK OUT OF ME!

I get a KICK OUT OF MYSELF and DO this for FUN.

PLUS, I have MET SO MANY OF YOU!!!

I am off on another ADVENTURE TO sip some TEA and meet 14 NEW LADIES and TOUR a few GARDENS…….OH PRINCE CHARLES !!!!!

I am traveling with another BLOGGER called DEBRA from 5th and STATE you may want to LOOK her up!She HAILS from outside CHICAGO and has a decorating and landscape business!I think we will be helping her FILL a CONTAINER to HAUL back to THE USA TO sell in her SHOP!!!!!!!!!NOT THAT she NEEDS any HELP!!!!!!!!BUT you know what I mean……I may find a PORTRAIT or THREE to TUCK inside than Tell THE ITALIAN once I get HOME!!!!!!!

SPEAKING OF FAMILY MEMBERS GUESS WHO GOT HIS TEETH CLIPPED ON Labor Day?

BANKSY’s lower FANGS got SAWED off with a wire!

IT took just SECONDS BY A COWGIRL NAMED HEATHER WHO DID A FABULOUS JOB with HER ADORABLE HUSBAND WHO HELD MISTER B UPSIDE DOWN WITH SIR WINSTON CIRCLING YELPING LIKE A CRAZY DOG WORRIED FOR ALL THE NOISE AND FOR HIS BUDDY BANKSY BOY!

These may have to go under a glass dome!

Today, in Bagno a Ripoli and Firenze, for lunch. Then Essalunga {Novoli}- this gorgeous female in a red floral caftan- to the floor- and all I thought was- that would be our Contessa! So funny…. you’re such a great writer! Inspiring, creative and with a perfect touch of humor! That’s so funny about you being photographed on the street. Makes me realize that since I live in the city centre I’m luckily always nicely dressed. Even when I go to the gym… so hopefully no one will take a unpleasant photo of me half dressed, or what ever.

I do believe Prince Charles will be craning his neck, out the window, to see a Contessa in his garden!!! well he would if he were there, usually visitors are only allowed when he is not in residence…..BUT we can touch the house!!!

English gardens in the fall will be absolutely fantastic. Perhaps one could have a mini recorder and verbally record what one sees instead of having to hand write notes. We shall look forward to your Instagram pics. What an ordeal for Banksy. He is so fortunate to be in your care. If you see the Prince do tell him I’m sorry I never gave him a program when he came to the theatre in Vancouver 1986. If he comes again I will be sure to give him one.

Great post on the Contessa sighting. It made me want to come to Walnut Creek on the off chance… Loved the part about Winston being upset for his friend Banksy. I imagine he was screaming his head off.
Bon Voyage on your latest adventure. How exciting for you and to go with a group of like minded gals …will be fun.
I have also thought about how casual dressing has gone off the charts. Particularly in Los Angeles. Everyone looks like they just rolled out of bed or came from the gym. I was wondering if it was us 60s kids that started it. My parents did not appreciate my “hippie” bell bottoms and strange outfits. Do you think we started it? Horrors…now people asked me all the time why I am so dressed up. I’m not. I just want to look nice and will comment to any woman or man who looks put together and tell them how great they look. Startles most people that I would notice and say something but i am too shy to ask for a picture. You are more outgoing and I am sure people love to talk to you. Anyway I know you will have a fabulous time and come back with great pictures and entertaining stories.
P.S. That chartreuse caftan is GORGEOUS.

  NO we did not start it……..the exercise industry STARTED IT.The shoe companies might be to blame too as everyone really got use to the comfy shoes first.Remember the women going to work DRESSED but wearing their Sneakers to run for the bus, train etc…………from there they introduced the TRACK SUITS for older women and than CASUAL became ACCEPTABLE in the OFFICE say on a FRIDAY……..THAN NO ONE CARED and every day became a CASUAL DAY.I think maybe CALIFORNIA was to BLAME IN STARTING THE TREND But I DON’T KNOW……….that would be an interesting PAPER for a student to write today.HOwever, the student today would have NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT………………unless they watch OLD MOVIES……………HA!

I am sitting here in the middle of the night in this grand ruin of a big house in the wilds of County Sligo, because I cannot sleep. Today was spent scaling mountains to peer into ancient goddess caves, walking a labyrinth of fruit trees and devouring a platter of homemade scones slathered with the works. I’ve recently returned from seven weeks in the England visiting family and friends. It had been incredibly hot for months with high temperatures breaking historical records. Sadly, I found that flowers had suffered. Although I didn’t visit Highgrove on this occasion, I hope Prince Charles had his gardeners watering regularly. Have a wonderful trip. Earlier in the week, one morning after sweaty from running, I threw on jeans, a tee and a baseball hat to run into a quiet shop for one item. Of course I ran into three people I knew – Murphy’s Law – so embarrasing.

Enjoy Highgrove and London. The weather here is gorgeous at the moment. I went to a ball way back in the late 60s where Prince Charles was present. Maybe I danced with a man who danced with a woman who danced with the Prince of Wales!

You are amazing Elizabeth, all friends you have and the wonderful stories you share with us. Enjoy your trip. We got back from Scotland 2 days ago. It’s so me. I wanted to hide in one of their glens and never leave. We had some amazingly sunny weather – although I would have been happy with rain too.

The last 5th and State blog she posted was in July and there’s no mention of garden tours… In tiny print on an unlikely page on “Scentimental Gardens” was a reference to her leading garden tours annually. You celebretante you! I’ve been a fan of Miss Roehme since my college days. Did you ever read my blog post about her? She inspired some of my first collections in the shop. And the tragic loss of her home just haunts me.

Well you are Blog Royalty, so paparazzi will snap you going about your Daily Business! How did you get your photo for the blog? CR and you both wear fuchsia so well, such a regal colour and a repeat offender in my wardrobe, too.

When are you off to Highgrove? Will you get an Audience with the King-In-Waiting? How thrilling!! I’d love to do an English garden tour. I lived there for a few years but was too “busy” at the time to stop and smell the roses properly.

A client has antique business across Europe, for decades, bringing stuff back. She’s just starting to reproduce a few pieces. Her last child soon off to college, lucky us !

She took your photo and then walked right past you? And then she not only posted the photo but also identified you? Why not say hello and ask you to pose? I recently saw the most regal woman at the market and asked for her photo. She agreed, but asked me to leave off her face. We talked a little and she confessed to being 81. She looked like 61. Great skin, tall and thin, wearing a beautiful skirt with a fitted knit top and kitten-heel pumps.
The color is gorgeous and bravo to you for dressing up even to make a return.
Carolyne Roehm is very beautiful. I love her site/blog–watching the creation of her carnavale costumes was amazing.
