SHADOWLINE NIGHTGOWNS

August 30, 2023 79 Comments

BUT FIRST A LITTLE THEATER AND SHOW AND TELL!

I was lucky enough to see CIRQUE du SOLEIL’s CORTEO PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK.

TO SAY I WAS IN MY ELEMENT IS TRUE!

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THEATER!

I MISSED MY CALLING!

I KNEW IMMEDIATELY UPON SEEING THREE GRAND CHANDELIERS THAT THE ACROBATS WERE GOING TO USE THOSE FOR PROPS!AS THEY (THE CHANDELIERS) LIFTED THEM AND SWUNG ABOUT MAKING GRAND GESTURES SO………… I N C R E D I B L E!

THE SHOW IS ABOUT DYING…….A SUBJECT CLOSE TO MY HEART RECENTLY!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT AND THE SHOW WAS SPOKEN IN ITALIAN!

HOW ABOUT THAT FOR A WIN~WIN SITUATION FOR LA CONTESSA WHO NEEDS THE PRACTICE!

I LOVED THE SHOW; I would IMAGINE YOU WILL TOO!

BEFORE WE MOVE INTO THE NIGHTGOWN CATEGORY OF THIS POST I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS BEAUTIFUL CAFTAN DESIGNED BY THE DECORATOR SHELIA BRIDGES………SOLD BY https://gingerlily.co.uk

It’s expensive so if you are on a BUDGET just keep scrolling!

I ADORE TOILE and very rarely see it in clothing so I HAD TO TREAT MYSELF!

Sometimes WE NEED TO DO THAT!

I READ ONCE LILAC IS THE COLOR FOR WOMEN OVER 5O……..AND MY GOD I’M WAY OVER 50!

Don’t ask me why as I have no idea!

LAZY I GUESS.

I was CONTACTED by the LINGERIE FOUNDER……..of ETSY wanting to know if I would be interested in a few NIGHTGOWNS and PAJAMAS!

I don’t normally answer the requests I get because most of the time I cannot relate to the items they want me to FEATURE HERE!But somehow this one caught my attention as I NEED SOME NEW NIGHTGOWNS!

SHADOWLINE reminded me of what my MOTHER and GRANDMOTHER wore.

PLUS the PRICE POINT IS EXCELLENT and they are MADE HERE IN THE USA!

WASHABLE…… WHATS NOT TO LIKE?

I picked a size MEDIUM from their size chart as she said they run BIG.

The top is a perfect fit but I could have used a LARGE in the pant. I am 5’9″ inches tall about 145 pounds.

The pant is a CAPRI cut meant to be above the ankle.

DRAW STRING WAIST.

THE SHOES are BIRDIES GIFTED TO ME BY A READER OF THIS BLOG!

    Hi Contessa!

I have been enjoying a break from the computer, but have missed posts from you! My favorite thing about this one is seeing you in your amazing closet – and you should consider wearing more of that soft lavender color, you look so pretty in it. Sorry about the Grand Dog; it is so hard to say goodbye to a pet. If your photos are any indication, you are feeling really great – I’m very happy to see that. I went to the Coast and Koi site, but could not find the robe. I saw a picture of a gorgeous pink one, but it was from a photo shoot. Let’s blab soon.

Hello Elizabeth, I am always late to your party these days. Blame it on all those books I read. The nightgowns look very nice but I can’t wear nylon or polyester at night as I would get too hot. Only cotton will do these days.
We’ve had some lovely rain today so I’m happy. Looking forward to autumn and to cooler days.
I think I will finally publish something on my blog soon. I’ll send you the link if I do because I wasn’t able to get MailChimp to work ?

Ok Girlfriend ….. I really must make that trip out to visit you. FIRST, you need me to organize ( or should I say reorganize) your closet! It does need to be by color as I think you mentioned and you really need all those glamorous things organized…I’m your girl and think of all the fun we will have???. The Italian won’t know what to do with both of us! And you know my love for chandeliers so I will go out of my mind???. Your nightgowns are beautiful and too lovely to sleep in but then again you know me, I don’t sleep much so I should start wearing them…. Love you Beauty?

First, I loved the last post… in my mind you are the Contessa of Caftans… and the perfect model and purveyor. And now nightgowns : ) Both are the most comfortable clothing ever invented! You are also synonymous with chandeliers. Like another reader, I have one over a bathtub (crystal) and one over the dining room table (porcelain w/ blue toile lampshades).. mine is a more traditional home (i.e. far less magical, sadly!) Speaking of magic, the photo of your shoe on velvet pillow was Cinderella-esque… and Cirque is 1000% your milieu : )
So sad to read about your grand-dog… they are our family and it is very hard to lose them. Hoping you may have a new resident in the near future…the best Rx.
    XO
PS I will send you a link to youtube video of the wedding soon, better than photos.. we just saw it this weekend when we visited them. Over the moon..

    Good morning,
It took me an extra day to be able to sit and enjoy your post. I’m so sorry to hear about Nollie. Animals have such an important place in our lives and in our hearts. Never easy.
You are correct about those nightgowns looking like what our grandmothers wore. I can remember them in detail! I’m glad you opted to give them a try. They bring a bit of whimsy and nostalgia to our current culture.
I love Cirque du Soliel! I’m hoping to be able to see the current show here in Las Vegas at the Wynn Resort!
As always, such a wonderful glimpse into your world, and your closet!

Those nightgowns look like they were made just for you, LA CONTESSA. I like the colors on you as well! I could see you starring in a Cirque de Soleil production 🙂 Love the thought. What a treat to see the show! I adore a sparkly chandelier. I saw a lady on the local news as her garden was featured and what made it special was all of the reclaimed chandeliers she had collected. She had them strategically placed throughout her garden. Always lovely to open a blog post from you!

I rushed right over here Elizabeth when I saw that you had something to say about Shadowline. Recently to relieve tension and for comfort I have started scrolling eBay for vintage nightgowns. It didn’t take long to see that Shadowline was a premiere purveyor. Then women wanted a more natural fiber than nylon and chiffon. I can see their point in terms of wicking ability which is so important to women of a certain age. But here in the Northeast there are two seasons where nylon and/or chiffon make sense and that is pre-fall when it’s too cool for skimpy cotton and late spring when it is too early for skimpy cotton. Nylon serves us well at these two time. I love wearing a slippery and attractive nylon gown but I had no idea Shadowline was still around until I read this! You look lovely in the new pieces and I think they fit right in with your style. By the way, I am a medium now (LOL!) Lovely post. Oh Elizabeth…I am sorry about the grand-dog. It makes me sad to think of the losses. xo

    My Lovable Elizabeth —
I have been enjoying your blog and now taking a little time to respond to this one.
You and your family are truly lovable – starting from the first time we met when you moved into Brickyard Landing some 30 years ago. The whole community cheered you Giampiero when you were off to Italy to get married. I would love it if you would show your box containing your wedding shoes etc.
You did not return to us when you returned to the US after taking care of Giampiero sisters in Italy for a few years, when his Mom passed away. This was such a caring thing for both of you to do. My daughter Cynthia loved taking care of your boys while you were there one summer. She is still in touch with his sisters.
    YOU LOOK MARVELOUS !!!
Much love to you and your family —
    With so many fond memories.

So sorry to hear about your Grand -dog. Always sad to remember they are not with us long enough.

Yes! You missed your calling. Although I believe you are living your best life. Community theatre might have been a great option. Win/Win. What a fun evening.

That closet, the windows are so perfect. Looks like a stage to me!

Yes I remember Shadowline my grandmother and mother wore them and always a stable under the Christmas tree. Living in Hot/Humid Florida, I wear cotton or linen. Nylon or polyester too clingy. However, I did go to their site and look to see if they offered cotton options. They look so good on you. I see why they approached you to model their pieces….you make me want to like nylon/polyester.

The lavender caftan in silk is beautiful. Along with the shoes. Very elegant and the colors. Also, love your monogrammed slippers with the dark blue pj set. Perfect!

Chandeliers, I have one in my dining room and one over my bathtub. I think you can pull off having them in every room (sans garage) because your home embraces it. It’s your theatre and full of atmosphere. Love it all!

Thinking of you and continued good health news. Life is good!

Thank you, for another fun blog.

My condolences for your families loss of sweet Nollie. It’s such a hard thing to have to go through.
That’s why we have chandeliers, to help light the dark corners. I don’t have very many chandeliers, but after reading about yours, I’m wondering why I don’t have more.
I’m going to keep this very short, and I normally don’t even comment, but the first thing that popped into my mind when I started reading today’s blog about night clothes and saw that picture, was: deep coral is your color! That nightgown completely flatters and illuminates you. They all look good, of course, but if I were you, I would run out and buy a nice deep, coral coat, probably an unlined boiled wool that you could wear over anything, and a deep coral cashmere sweater. Those items would serve you nicely in the fall.
I hope you’re not having as much smoke as I am, to the north of you in Sonoma County. Last nights blue moon was more of an amber.
Stay healthy for yourself and your family and us.
    Fondly,
    Marcia

So sorry to hear about the passing of Nollie. I met her several times and she was very protective of her grown son, and wouldn’t let Isha near him. So how cathartic is it going to see El Corteo!? The pageantry and artistic spin on life’s closures is essential for us all to carry on. RIP Nollie.

HELLO AUNTIE OF “PINE CONES ~ELIZABETH”,
      WHAT A LOVELY SURPRISE!
YES,THE MORE WE WAIT THE BETTER THE TREATMENTS BECOME…….
BEEN THROUGH THAT 13 YEARS AGO.AS THEY PUT IT OFF AS LONG AS THEY COULD.THE REPAIR AT THE TIME WAS BETTER THAN A REPLACEMENT AS I WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH THE REPLACEMENT AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME at that time.
Now that the heart is in “FAILURE” I doubt I have that option but I should ask!MOST OF THE TIME I JUST DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!
IT’S HARD WALKING AROUND OUT OF BREATH AND TIRED ALL THE TIME when you have done no serious work.
      It’s just down right frustrating!
ONWARDS I GO…………WE MUST HAVE FUN AND I AM STILL ABLE TO DO THAT HERE!
It’s fun creating the photos and adding the captions or seeing what TRIGGERS my mind to chat about!
      THANK YOU FOR THE VISIT!

This quote helped me so much.

Godspeed your family’s loss of NOLLIE. Huge……….pet losses. Big Hug.

Fond memories those gowns. Alas, I’m an all cotton creature. Especially tissue thin Egyptian cotton. Nothing better than inheriting several sets mom’s Matouk percale sheets, wearing the Egyptian cotton gowns mom gifted me most Christmases…….slipping into bed with a good book !

Oh no, those Coast & Koi shoes. Back to Mom… She always asked for a specific Christmas choice, a bit pricey….. rare I had an answer, being master thrift store shopper. She always chose wonderful gifts. Anyway………….she’s gone and I want some Coast & Koi shoes !!! Mom’s laughing at my predicament.

One year, loads of great Christmas gifts from Mom, capped with HUGE Waterford vase, HUGE. Dad sent vase via online without telling Mom. Knew immediately the Christmas HAUL was over budget; Mom’s sense of proportion. Also, knew the following Christmas her gifts would have a reduction…. Yep, next year a ‘Waterford’ reduction.

Parents gone, that VASE never ceases to garner happy SMIRKING SMILE when I see it…..you know I only take roadside kill. Greenery growing toward road, to be cut by county anyway. Won’t steal food from wildlife…. Fun challenge. Made easier using silhouette of Constance Spry………….and Dad’s VASE.

When it’s my turn at Church for FLOWERS………………I use same source to fill a vase. Roadside Kill. Been doing it long enough, they tease me about it.

    Oh those SHOES !!!

“ROADSIDE KILL” IS PERFECT!We do not have the vegetation sources like you do in the SOUTH!Love the VASE STORY!YOU and YOUR FATHER HAD A SPECIAL BOND I have discovered over the years of following you and your comments here!I have a WATERFORD BOWL VASE that was my MOTHERS which I assume was a wedding GIFT from whom I have NO IDEA………..MY MOM LOVED THAT VASE!When our house got robbed the BANDITS left it on the floor! No time I guess they got scared off!
BACCARAT GLASSES FLOAT ABOUT HERE FROM A WEDDING GIFT LONG AGO……..I KEEP WANTING TO USE THEM FOR EVERY DAY!THAT MEANS I NEED TO GET THEM OUT OF THE CLOSE CABINET!
      ROTATION IS IN MY FUTURE!!!
      HA!
      WHAT SIZE SHOE ARE YOU?
EVERYONE NEEDS A COAST & KOI PAIR!
THERE IS A STORE IN FLORIDA I BELIEVE WHO CARRYS THEM NOW!
HEAD TO HER WEBSITE…….CHRISTMAS IS COMING AND REMEMBER WHAT CONTESSA SAYS!”WE MUST TREAT OURSELVES!”

    VIA EMAIL:

    Dearest Elizabeth,

I read your post this morning. So sad about sweet Nollie. I know how hard it is when we have to let our beloved pets go.

I wanted to share these 2 photos with you in case you no longer have them (you sent them to me for my animal rescue book 2018)
I am not sure if Nollie is the puppy on the first photo but it’s one of the sweetest photos ever. I know Nollie is on the other shot for sure.

The hurricane made a big mess and I can’t even start to clean up outside because we are still having big storms with lightning/thunder/monsoon rains/ ferocious winds. All left over from Idalia. They say it will clear up on Sunday. Let’s hope so.

Anyway, my sweet, I am thinking about you and yours.
    All my love, always.

Oh my goodness Elizabeth I am so envious of you having the opportunity to see the Cirque de Soliel show. Their shows are so fantastic and enjoyable.
You and me both have a ‘thing’ about chandeliers?? My pantry is too filled with fridges and masses of dog food to accommodate one but everywhere else including the garden is as festooned as I can get away with.
Your fortunate collaboration with the sleepwear company looks wonderful and I ‘m sure the lucky ladies who are going to be on the receiving end of your largesse are going to be thrilled.
We are at long last going into a glorious spring here in South Africa’s Lowveld and it comes not a moment too soon. We are in desperate need of decent rain as winter is our driest season and it’s been a bitter one this year.

I love nightshirts, as I don’t get tangled in them. Your modeling them is marvelous. Don’t believe my waist is 30 inches, but the rest on size M does indeed fit. I love your pairing it with a kimo….I love mine kimonos and somethings belt them with a pair of pants and a silk top …how fun.

Cirque I love, and every year saw a different show when I had to attend a trade show in VEGAS. This new one souncs marvelous…the one I saw in a tent in Baltimore was fun, but they cannot do what they are best as in a theatre. Nothing beats that. ‘O’ is marvelous too….all of them are. So glad you got to see them.

Your posts always amaze me! So inspiring and interesting. How cool that you went to Cirque du Soleil. I’ve only been to one, in Vegas, ‘Love’, the Beatles performance.

Love seeing the photos of your kaftans and getting a glimpse again of your closet. I was so fortunate to see it in real life a few years ago! It’s amazing how many you have and they look magnificent on you, along with the beautiful accessories.

Not sure what I would look like in a kaftan, though! I do have a few kimonos. 🙂
