TEAPOTS in the LOU

March 22, 2015 42 Comments

Have you noticed the old vintage silver-plated teapots are available at almost every thrift shop or consignment shop around?I have and it makes me sad. Most people today would never use such a SET.Even if they drink TEA.

I am guilty as I put that BAG right into the CUP!HORRORS, I know…………

So, I happen to see this service at a local CONSIGNMENT SHOP for about four months.IT spoke to me but I do not have a flat surface left to display it on.I really only  wanted  two of the five items………I like silver vessels for purposes other then what they were meant to be intentionally used. The shop wouldNOT split up the SET.I understand that ,and do  BELIEVE in it, so I was okay with purchasing the entire SERVICE!

Now where I put it might SURPRISE YOU!

OH DEAR………in this photo you see my light BLUE tub.Thats another story for another day! It’s cast iron and six feet long and was CHEAP!The ITALIAN HUSBAND made me do it!Ruined my entire VISION for the BATHROOM!AS I said, another POST  another day!

The TEA SET works here perfectly…………..bobby pins, nail files,make-up pencils, lipsticks everything has a HOME in my DIVINE RED velvet box.Which sits on top of a cute little three drawer bit.

Consider SAVING one of these sets the next time you pass one.It would be great in the kitchen too with utensils for the table.I assume YOU still SET a TABLE for meals?I know times are changing and I am barely keeping up……………I am VINTAGE you know.55 in JULY.

SPEED LIMIT AGE.

Same day as that DARLING PRINCE GEORGE.

I do think they will have a little GIRL this time. What are the chances that this little girl might be called ELIZABETH?That would be the BEST GIFT of ALL…………….as that is MY given name.

Here we are four months away from the DAY of my BIRTH and I am already talking about it.Let’s change the subject…………..

LOOK what I saw at the SAN FRANCISCO FLOWER & PLANT SHOW.

IMG_4068

I think I may need to make this GARDEN GODDESS for my backyard……….

Can you make out her face? Then her body and hair are branches and flowers………

A SPRING GODDESS…………………we shall call her.

I found HER worthy of the entry fee.I bet that MAGICAL MISTER PAUL over yonder CLICK HERE could whip her up in NO TIME!

DON’t forget I will be HERE:

SELLING MY WARES………….visiting with other DIVINE people.

You MUST STOP by and say “CIAO BELLA” if you are in my neck of the woods……….

This show is one of the BEST!

This VINATGE CONTESSA is having TECHY problems with HER SUBSCRIBERS so I would suggest if you have found me by some MIRACLE to re-SUBSCRIBE on the LEFT side bar.Otherwise, those of you that follow BLOGLOVIN should find me there. However, I did it and since I am Not to adapt at this kinda stuff I have my doubts! You can always GOOGLE me every two weeks or so to see if YOUR VINTAGE CONTESSA has written a NEW POST!Needless, to say this has upset me,but if you spread the word and re-SUBSCRIBE perhaps I will be back in BUSINESS.

I keep telling myself it’s just a little blog………GOT my HEALTH and my FAMILY all is GOOD.

FONDLY,

YOUR VINTAGE CONTESSA………..XO

I hope the show is: was a huge success! And I love the tea service. (Love ‘repurposing’ creatively.) I must admit I dunk my Earl Grey in microwaved H2O. Dreadful, I realize.

I smiled when I read that you are out of surface space (or nearly). I’m out of book space! (Stacks everywhere)…. And date I admit, walls are my problem. Even hanging salon style) and leaning little artworks around baseboards and against furniture…. Um… I am spatially challenged.

I have subscribed again also, although then it told me I was already subscribed! I make green tea every day and courtesy of my husband, in a pot! He bought me several Christmas’s ago a beautiful cast iron tea pot from Teavana. It sits on an equally heavy trivet with a tealight keeping the tea to a perfect temperature, so all afternoon I can just refill my cup of green tea, civilised and happy. However, the same said husband does not drink green tea but regular brown tea, builders tea as we call it in England! Now he likes his in a mug with the tea bag and a splash of milk. The luxury of sitting down and drinking tea from a bone china cup and saucer – sadly it’s mugs all the time here!!!

I too have re subscribed as wasn’t getting any of your emails so thank you for letting me know. Just love what you have imaginatively done with your tea set. My father would only ever have silver at our table and woe betide anyone that put plastic on the table! We were brought up eating with proper sterling silver cutlery so I decided I would do the same with my family and I’m glad to say that our boys have a real appreciation of good quality silver, although they have been known to whinge when they have to clean it . Very sad that no one really enjoys using anything made with silver anymore but I’m sure it will have its resurgence one day. x

It would be thrilling to visit your space at “Remnants of the Past.” Maybe sometime in the future!!!

I was in France at an Emaus (the equivalent of Goodwill) and found a complete Limoges tea set with 11 cups and saucers. Creamer, sugar bowl, pitcher – the works. I bought it for 15 euros and carried it all the way home on the airplane in my carry-on bag. Like you, I had no surface space to display it, so it sits on my office bookshelves. It looks lovely.

This is so beyond brilliant and yet not “beyond” because it is perfectly you! I do love the idea…goodness how we all tend to forget to think outside the box sometimes…I hope that your Remnants show is a massive hit. If I didn’t live on the other side of the world I would volunteer to be your charming assistant and champagne server. 🙂

I’m guilty of tea bag in cup, then I transfer it to a tea pot to make my second cup…but it’s not silver. My mother’s old silver one started to make my tea taste funny.
Terrifc suggestion for how to use it!!
Those sets are popping up everywhere and it is a shame. Whatever happened to celebrating occasions in style. Perhaps I shall give a tea party. Yes I will. Look for your invitation!!
Let’s plan a birthday lunch before your dance card fills right up! Such a popular lady!!

Contessa I did not get my usual notification so will resubscribe!! I cannot be missing out! I love your idea of using silver in this way. I also have a silver tea service from my grandmother and am using various pieces, but this is a beautiful way to use lovely pieces that are wasting away in storage!!! I already have my silver flatware out too in glasses as it’s so pretty. I like seeing it. The flower show looks amazing. I agree our dear Mr Paul could whip something similar up! Where has that rascal been? Hope you have a lovely day and will mark my calendar for your show too!

I must get it together. Love the idea of using the tea set in your bathroom. My husband would leave me. 🙂 Can’t wait to see the flowers blooming in your yard. Good luck with your show. Great stuff I’m sure.

Oh my dear Elizabeth, i am guilty of tea pot boiling hot water, bag in tea-cup, kettle poor hot water from the stove. Shame on me for not using a proper silver or China tea pot, I so use to do this when all the design rage was Victorian, but years get by and less of one design and more of another takes over. I am so happy you take time to rescue these orphaned silver pieces, giving them the perfect adopted home to live out their time with.
You come up with such unique display places to stage your pieces, and the Velvet in red would it be anything less then?

Love the garden Spring lady, I could see her face right away, had to look really close, for a minute I thought is this a real face? Is someone inside this haven of beauty built of twigs, vines, and florals?
Yes I could see one of these going up soon in your yard. Yet I am sure you will come up with something of equal or more inspiring garden drama as you never disappoint In the dramatics 🙂

Have a great show, so wish I could hop on a plane, or get driving up North to visit you and beautiful friends at Remants.

    Xoxo
See you soon with all you will be inspiring here.
