THINGS I USE AROUND THE CASA!

November 6, 2017 159 Comments

WELCOME TO MY KITCHEN.

I am about to step down into the KITCHEN from THE BAR area.

If YOU count THE BAR area I have 5 CHANDELIERS in my KITCHEN.

PLUS, TWO in my PANTRY!

THAT MAKES SEVEN!!!!!!

GUESS you can say I COLLECT THEM!!!!

CAT ON CAT……..YOU ALL KNOW THEODORABLE RIGHT!

This is just one of many positions!

How can he sleep with that leg in the AIR!

EGGS IN DINNER ROLL BASKET!

IT LOOKS PERFECT IN THE REFRIGERATOR!

PILLS IN SILVER NUT VESSEL.

So, much MORE fun than popping from the ugly plastic bottles!

DON’T YOU THINK?

Light SWITCH Plates nearly caused a DIVORCE in MY HOUSE!

I wanted the FAT ones…….HE wanted these that WE all GREW UP WITH………..

SO, he put FAT ONES in the BATHROOMS and HIS GARAGE  and I got the thin ones through out the rest of the CASA!

I LOST but remedied the situation with FRAMES around the UGLY NECESSITIES!

SIGNAGE ALWAYS A VALUABLE DECOR ITEM FOR ME!

A PIG on VIEW!

TO EAT OR NOT THAT DEAD DAHLIA sitting on the fountains edge!

THE BIG DECISION was NO!

I KNOW I KNOW THAT UGLY PLASTIC POT!!!!!!

SHAME ON ME!

I will plant DAHLIA and toss POT!

SO, easy to find in THRIFT SHOPS old silver-plated casserole HOLDERS!

Why NOT put the DOG DISH inside it!

LOVE THE LITTLE BIRD FEET ON THIS ONE!

A LAMPSHADE used as a HEAD on an old CHUBBY WOMAN MANNEQUIN.

This was the FIRST ITEM I purchased for my SHOP almost 20 years ago!!!!!

FRENCH BISHOPS COAT ADORNS THE SAID MANNEQUIN!

MASTER BATH……….This MANNEQUIN resides there!

SILVER DINNER DOME USED TO HOLD DOOR OPENED.

When one has a TEA CUP pig one needs to have all Bathroom doors CLOSED!

Otherwise, this could happen……….

THE ITALIAN filmed this FOOTAGE as I was away for a few days!

NEEDLESS, to say I WAS HORRIFIED!

HOW LONG WAS HE IN THERE………I THINK ALONG TIME!

Like ALL DAY……..HE DID A POOP!

CONSIDERING THE MESS THERE WAS VERY LITTLE DAMAGE!!!!!

Watch for the FRENCH CRYSTAL STANDING CHANDELIER in the BATH TUB and what you canNOT see is a cement BUST from BELGIUM went down.

Not a chip or a scratch!

FRAME AROUND ALL LIGHT SWITCHES!

Just ADDS a bit of WHIMSEY!

( KATHLEEN here is THAT NECKLACE I spoke of…………)

PAPER TOWELS always NEED to be HANDY!

SO, I did this!

I keep inside a CHAMPAGNE BUCKET for easy GRAB and TEAR!

My OFFICE which was the old kitchen of this 1940’s house.

YOUR closet is probably BIGGER!

I found this lamp for $75.00 years ago and recently had THAT ITALIAN install an old frame on the ceiling!

A REASON TO LOOK UP AND SMILE AND CHECK FOR COBWEBS!

MY kitchen was an ADDITION by THE ITALIAN.

I am still waiting on the center island which I found old BALUSTRADES to be the support structure for a THREE TIERED TABLE.

My entire KITCHEN was designed around THAT ISLAND which I saw in a MAGAZINE……….over 25 years AGO!Do you think there is HOPE?I should pull that picture out and put it in his CHRISTMAS STOCKING!!!!!!!

The BALUSTRADES came from the OWNERS home of THE MARK HOPKINS HOTEL in SAN FRANCISCO!!!

A PIG IN THE DOORWAY………..always a good IDEA!

Perfect DOORSTOP!

I have had a few spellings of BANKSY on Instagram lately…….the first was BUNKSEY, which I LOVED.

The second was BANKSI which I adored as well!

The ITALIAN calls him MISTER B!!!!!!!!!

This is ONE of MY FAVORITE pieces I found at a FLEA MARKET!

The FARM FEEDER!

It was $3.00 and I know the kid who gave me the price was going to be in TROUBLE with MOM as she had stepped away from the BOOTH!

I gave him MY $3.00 and ran to the car NO MORE SHOPPING FOR ME as I did not want THE MOTHER TO FIND ME!

WE use CLOTH NAPKINS.

WE use them for about a week…….

Each of the FAMILY members has a napkin ring.

The napkins once done with get tossed into the feed trough where you see the RESERVED sign!

WOODEN SPOONS NEED TO BE HANDY!

They are the most used kitchen tool by ME!

A CHANDELIER AND A MIRROR OUTSIDE under the porch!

I get MORE ENJOYMENT out of these OUTSIDE THAN I would INSIDE!

French PASTRY TABLE was MY MOTHER’s she scored years ago………..I think she paid $100.00!!!

How about an OLD DRESS RACK in the KITCHEN for hanging pots and pans……

It works B E A U T I F U L L Y!

I can even hang the ironing on it!

YES, I LOVE TO IRON after THE ITALIAN bought me a new iron!

WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MADE!

I still take his DRESS SHIRTS to the DRY CLEANERS!

The old outside TABLE stands in the middle of my kitchen and ACTS as MY ISLAND!

It holds an OLD TERRA-COTTA POT that holds a silver TRAY that holds other vessels for smaller foods and tools.

The RED CHAIR just STOPPED in the KITCHEN as I had no other spot to put it!

I LOVE IT.

THE ITALIAN NOT SO MUCH.

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THAT BATTLE!!!??

HANG IN THERE BABY!

How many of YOU remember THAT from the 1970’s?

THE HOLIDAYS ARE FAST APPROACHING!

LET’S ALL HANG TOGETHER!!!

I SO ENJOY YOUR COMMENTS!

THANK YOU for READING ME!

Any thing to help! I love to encourage and besides I really do want to see the finished product. And the son that creates the furniture maybe he too could get in on the project. Or better yet find a non family member, who deals with lead paint to do that part of it.
Each day is a gift in itself. And the opportunity to fulfill a heart’s desire is a gift in itself. And so to “the Italian” what an opportunity! Enough said already!

Thanks for the mini tour. Your abode is as unique and creative as you. And to “the Italian” don’t you think it’s about time to deliver the island? It is obvious you too are creative and can deliver. I mean you built the kitchen addition! And as far as what to give the “Countess,” this is a no brainer. Besides those of us here in blog land would love to see the finished project. And who knows what inspiration would come when it is presented to her!!! And you no doubt would the recipient of such inspiration. Looks like a “win/win” situation.

You’re so creative and whimsical. Whimsy is an underrated decorating tool. I, too, love clerical vestments. Found a treasure trove of them in the Paris Fkea zmarket last year but had already spent a small fortune on a big, iron charcuterie cow head that hung outside a butcher shop in the 1700-1800’s…. Spent more shipping it home than I payed for it. Only a Texas girl would go to Paris to buy a cow head!! XOXOX, Brenda

    Carissimi Elizabeth,

Your casa is magical and full of treasures, just like you. I love all your antique silver. We also use our silver, on a daily basis, and cloth napkins. Adds a little something to our everyday meals. We had a picnic in the olive grove today {working}, with cloth napkins, silver and crystal. All transported in a basket, with the trattorino. Along with a portable table, certo.
I loved Giampiero’s video. He has a very melodious voice, as do you.

I hope to chat soon, let me know when is best. Baci baci, Robin

Your posts sweep me away… simply adored this one… filled with laughter, love and beauty. How anyone could not fall permanently in love with you, I do not know.

I transported a pair of antique hurricane lamps when we moved from CT to FL and the beautiful ETCHED glass chimneys made it safe and sound until I dropped one (having had too much wine, blew out the flame, and proceeded to lift off the base to CLEAN –what WAS I thinking, it was after midnight– I was standing on a dining room chair to reach it and the chimney crashed to the floor. (Glass does get hot, one forgets this with some wine.) The other lamp sat in a special tray in my kitchen until my son whisked by and toppled the chimney (he was cooking, so I could not get too mad)…. my favorite things are OLD : ) But, having never had a pig in my bathroom, I have no sense of what can happen accidently in a confined space (I am sure there was no intent–nothing was seriously damaged : )

Your home is YOU and it is simply, MAGIC. XO

    Dear Contessa ,
Your blog is an absolute delight , full of delicious quirkiness , elegance and eccentricity , always something outside of the square . I have such a feeling of anticipation dropping into your blog knowing I can expect the unexpected , you are inspirational and unique.
I love your champagne bucket wooden spoon holder , your silver food ‘cloche’ as a door stop , the beautiful moss ‘trees’ in terracotta pots , your mannequin dressed in brooches , the light switch frames……
I have an old milk churn in which I keep all my umbrellas and antique parasols ,
and an old boot last and old soda syphon both made into side table lights ,
a large old pin cushion full of my collection of hat pins , I love all these treasures and others which I have found over the years in my travels , and moves from UK to the Middle East and Australia.
I think a lot of our friends feel I am a more than a bit odd/quirky English , but I can live with that knowing that there is a fellow conspirator just over the ocean.

Why on earth would you be daft enough to unsubscribe ?

They should be queuing up in droves for the next instalment !
My heartfelt thanks to you .

Elizabeth, this post was a FEAST for the eyes. I enjoyed snooping through your beautiful home because I could see your deeply stylish and unconventional mind at work, making your space so truly YOUR OWN. Who frames light switches? Or puts frames on the ceiling? Or uses a casserole holder for a dog dish? You do! That’s who! It looks amazing. The thinking outside the box of how to make your home even more beautiful is what TRUE STYLE is all about, and you have it in spades. Thank you for sharing your home and your life and your mind with us. xx

I love, love, love this kitchen! I can’t get enough of old silver and I love the creative uses you put it to in your abode. The French calligraphy signs bring such life and identification..just wonderful! The Ramshead is to die for and I would love to have a steaming cup of espresso in one of those adorable pig mugs stacked on top of one another.. so cozy. I cannot believe how calm Giampy was in the video of Banksy’s day in your bathroom creating havoc! Oh my goodness how those glorious items did not all shatter is beyond me.. Giampy needs to get a very special Italian husband award for the clean up! The ultimate gloriousness are all of the Chandeliers!! I just adore them all! Even blessed one! What I love the most though are all of my dear memories enjoying delicious food and loving conversation around your table in that incredible kitchen of yours! So thankful for our endearing friendship xoxox

Oh my goodness, Contessa! So much beauty ~ thank you for the idea to hide the ugly light switches. <3 Love your Banksy. Sorry he got himself locked in the bathroom; your hubby's video was funny! I'm sure he wasn't too happy about cleaning everything up, but I'm sure glad your lovely dressmaker's dummy wasn't broken, nor the chandelier {which would about kill me! I'm looking for one that I can hang here in our 5th wheel trailer home ~ until we can buy a house, hopefully next year here in Texas}. Thank you for always sharing your beauty with us…
