ADVANCED PETS!!

November 20, 2024 58 Comments

There is a NEW BOOK that has been published and I am in it!

In the same outfit I wore many years ago in PARIS on that photo shoot with MY SONS.

I changed up the ACCESSORIES and took MY PIG for a walk about!

Ari Seth Cohen captured it ALL in my backyard a few years ago…………..

ARI is the man that created ADVANCED STYLE and showed us women and men of a certain age who dressed with flair and color.I believe he is the reason we began to see ADS with older women!

A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR ARI PLEASE!

These words the author and photographer ARI had me write up if you care to read some history of the animals.

Somehow, we left out SIR WINSTON the Cardigan Corgi.

I think he was using a different photo when we started this project over a year and a half ago!

Most of you know he was MY DOG and was my SHADOW.

ALL the animals shown here are now in ANIMAL HEAVEN.

This was a SPONTANEOUS photo as ARI stopped by to say HELLO on his way to San Francisco.

No photos were scheduled for this visit, but he snapped away anyway!

Books should be available now at your local book store and of course AMAZON will have them in stock.

Here is the link.Which is NOT working!

Go to AMAZON and search BOOKS then put in ADVANCED PETS it pops up for me but for some reason will not link.I am getting really tired of the in’s and out’s of the computer world.I have attempted SIX TIMES.

Speaking of books I am reading a book a CANADIAN READER from the blog sent to me.I am almost done and I have enjoyed it very much.I will do a proper book review on my next post. But if you can not wait it too can be found on AMAZON.The book is called DAUGHTER OF THE MOON.

A novel by LISA THOMSON.

And this is LINKING!

Well, it was the last three days……….maybe the storm is the issue.

I will post again next BLOG POST.

GO FIGURE!

(That means its AMAZON’s fault NOT MINE!)

As for other news and LIFE SMACKS.My Step Mother passed this month. She was 90 years old and was completely with it all the way to the end.She was a voracious reader all her life and gave up alcohol decades ago.She also walked daily until about two years ago with her doggy LIZZIE who befriended other dog walkers along the pathway by the San Francisco Bay.She was from ENGLAND and taught me two of my favorite words……..TWIT and COUTH.I have known her since I was 14 years old and she taught me to drive in a big parking lot in the financial district of San Francisco on the weekends. She had THE BEST TASTE and we often frequented the antique shows together.Egging each other on to buy!As I clean out her home in the peninsula I am skipping down memory lane with things we purchased together.Because of the quality and the age of things 1700’s through 19 th century ;I will have a hard time letting go of anything!

MY ITALIAN BETTER HAVE PATIENCE WITH ME…………….

Above a note that was left inside this sterling dish.

I GUESS IT WAS FOR ME!

Which is HYSTERICAL as I had started doing the same thing with my belongings.

She had all her antiques appraised in 1991 and I am thrilled to have that inventory list to work from.

The value and the period or dynasty is all very helpful to me.

Can anyone give me information on this Chinese Dish.

Matching URN.

I do not know much at all about ORIENTAL ART and need to verify I am matching this up correctly with the appraisal. If any of you know someone who could add their two cents I would appreciate you sending this on as I need to make some decisions very quickly.

I appreciate YOUR HELP DEAR WONDERFUL READERS……………..

As a final note here Tigre is stretched as if he is doing YOGA CLASS.I have bought a YOGA CHAIR BOOK and hope to start that sooner than later…………..on top of my private pilates class one day a week.Which is exercise and therapy all in one.We get a lot in for an hour class!!It’s a Big Bang for my BUCK and I love walking to her garden shed through the garden smelling the roses which are still blooming here in Northern California in NOVEMBER!

Here are a couple of photos of my garden this month.

That is it from me today…………

We are waiting for a BIG STORM TO HIT!

Will the woman in Orange County who was interested in the opera panels get in touch please!

Those of you following my health ADVENTURES more tests were done and I am still waiting for results.

What I do know is this.I am in” intermediate – high risk CPX parameters, with low breathing reserve.

There is evidence of both cardiac and pulmonary limitation to exercises.”

Which is NOTHING NEW I HAVE KNOWN THAT FOR YEARS!

HAPPY THANKS GIVING to all you AMERICANS and with that we are at TAKE OFF to THE MAJOR HOLIDAYS!This has been the fastest year ever for me.

I’m so glad Ari captured your style and zest for life! The photograph is a treasure. About your Chinese pieces, contact Lark Mason in New Braunfels, Texas. He is the Asian art expert on Antiques Roadshow. Lark has a fabulous gallery there and does online auctions with important pieces. I met Lark through our mutual friend, Nick Dawes, Roadshow’s Lalique, glass and Wedgewood expert. Text me and I’ll give you his contact info. xoxox, Brenda

As usual, I am bringing up the rear in the comment department. I don’t like to open your posts until I have time to properly read them, enjoy the photos, and comment. Firstly, I am so sorry about the loss of your second mother. You have spoken of her several times, and she sounded like a delight. I know you were both very special to each other. I volunteer to come out and help you with the clean-out, as I am experienced in that sort of thing. It can be overwhelming, and you will have a lot of memories as you go through all of her belongings. May your fond memories of her stand alongside your grief, and eventually replace it.

Congratulations on the inclusion in Ari’s latest book! You look splendid, as usual. I vote YES to a visit to Instagram headquarters. The idea that another reader had about getting yourself all decked-out assures a grand entrance. Sounds like you are hanging in there with the health issues; did you ever think there might be some divine purpose in all of this waiting? It’s got to be exasperating, and I agree that you “explain, not complain.” Reminds me of something I read the other day promoting the rescue of cats and dogs – “Adopt, don’t shop.”

Leave it to Parnassus to know about the Chinese pieces! He is so worldly and knowledgeable! I was going to suggest something else: with the sizeable Chinese population in the SF area, surely there is someone in that community who deals in antiquities. It might be worth a try.

I have roses in bloom now, too! And my “Mini Penny” hydrangea is blooming for the first time in about five years! We are having a blessedly mild autumn here in East Tennessee. Which will end in a day or two, giving way to blasts of cold with some snow.

May your Thanksgiving be a beautiful and bountiful one. I am thankful to have found your blog however many years ago it was, and to be a witness to your adventures, fashion, family, gardens, animals, food, passion, and delightful observations.

    Be well, my friend.

I have enjoyed the cleaning out process as it does bring up memories and so many purchases we did together! She had been in my life since I was 14 and now I’m 64 so there are loads of memories! My sons picked her up today from the Neptune Society and I now have a small dilemma! My Mother is in my office.I don’t dare put her in there with her!Step mom wanted to be scattered in a ROSE GARDEN.
Any ideas come to mind?Im thinking SPRING TIME!

Dearest Elizabeth, i have been missing out on your news and I apologise for that. Life tends to get busy sometimes and I never seem to have enough time to do the things I like to do. But I will try not to complain – although it’s difficult sometimes.

Condolences on the passing of your step-mother. It seems she hoarded some very beautiful things. People don’t do that anymore. The excuse is that houses are too small. I mean, here in Malta they are.

It’s only 4 weeks until Christmas. There is so much to do and so little time. My husband and I are going to Brussels for 4 days to visit the Christmas market and do a quick day trip to Bruges. It’s known as the ‘Venice of the North’ so I am rather excited about that.

    Carissima Contessa,

This Rough year is quickly winding down and I just hope that with it will bring some GREAT HAPPINESS for YOU! You have been through A LOT this year and you truly ARE OVERDUE for some GREAT Times ahead! Your SPECTACULAR feature in Ari’s book is a WONDERFUL START!
I think Yoga is a BRILLIANT idea! My hubby does it every morning before breakfast to keep his muscles “loose…or toned?” I just walk on treadmill and do only ONE Tai-Chi move that I saw on Instagram. I rush through both. The older I get the less patience I have for exercise – NOT a good thing! I think I am LAZY.
And with that, Lol, I shall bid Adieu! See YOU on Instagram!

I’m so sorry to hear about your step-mother — it sounds as if you and she were truly kindred spirits.

I love the photos of you! So beautiful (you AND the photos!).

We are having a postal strike here so I will send you an email Christmas card, instead.

We had snow and it is beautiful outside. As a friend said, “it would have been better on Christmas Eve”. We were spoiled with having a long, beautiful autumn.

I’m also sorry about Banksy — somehow I missed that.

In the meantime, I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving. And I hope and pray you have good lab results.

You MUST go into the INSTA HEADQUARTERS. Suggest wearing… something dramatic (will be hard to choose, I know : ) Hat, jewels, pearls– the usual. Just wish Banksy could go with you through the front doors. But maybe Betty could go : ) Bring the book so they know you are already famous. And bring friend photog to capture the moment. Then let them have it!!! Your step-mother will be watching and cheering from heaven… she was like a fairy godmother from what you have described.

Hoping for the best re tests… love how one reader wrote you explain, not complain… this is so true. You are unsinkable and that is SO inspiring for us!

Happy Thanksgiving, I am going to try to focus on what I am truly thankful for and not think about anything I am devastated about (that happened this month).

Reading back over your previous blogs, I understand now why Instagram does not allow me to send messages. I get it fixed (with same password) then it blocks me again. I finally assumed it is because I don’t follow or accept followers. I just view. I guess Instagram does not want wallflowers. Lol

So many treasures to sort thru – not an easy task! Hope you have a helper. Even parting with someone else’s possessions can be hard – deciding whether to keep an item or not. So good to have an antique inventory list. Will some items go to an auction?
A delightful book by Ari. Pets bring such joy to our lives and Bansky was unique.
Roses and hydrangeas are still blooming here on the west coast. A treat to see roses in bloom.
This month is going by FAST!
Wonder what the plan may be when you hear from the dr. He could just say – keep breathing – pace yourself – carry on as usual. Enjoy.

    Hello,

Condolences on the loss of your step mother. Sounds like you had a wonderful relationship with her. The treasures she must have, have fun sorting through it all. Love your photos in the book, what an honour, for Ari, to have you agree to be in the book, lol. Happy Thanksgiving from Down Under.

        Hi Elizabeth,

Yes, I was only in California for 2 weeks before I flew to Seattle to see family. My planning was full but in June I’ll come to CA again so we can definitely meet up!

Wishing you a lovely Christmas full of joy!

        Love,

        Karenxoxoxo

Hi Elizabeth, that platter and earn our gorgeous. I’ve watched the antique roadshow and there’s a specialist there. I just sent you an email regarding the book. I am in Vancouver and in our Sunday newspaper. There was a full page art article on the book with you and Your lovely pig. I showed the article to my husband and mentioned you and he goes. How do you know her? I said Instagram doesn’t quite get that but I’m very happy that I have met you for this and I haven’t been on online for a while so thank you for the update.

Instagram and the friendships made have been FABULOUS!
We drove by Instagrams headquarters the other day or META as it is now called!
I have the notion of stopping by and going in to ask a few questions!
Do you think they would be receptive to that?
I was one of their FIRST CLIENTS!
Maybe I should start with that!!!
      BE WELL………..XXX

Hello Contessa, I must say that no one deserves more to be honored in a book, and that pose is quite striking!

About the Chinese ceramics, you are showing it upside down, but the mark is that of Qian Long, who was emperor from 1736 to 1795. However, the vast majority of marks on Chinese ceramics are false, and I imagine the piece to be considerably later. However, you know that I specialize more in utilitarian rather than decorative Chinese objects, and I stay far away from museum staples like porcelain and jade. For what it is worth, here is a similar vase with the same mark and with peaches having those air-brushed-looking red spots on them, although it would take an experienced hand to evaluate your friend’s pieces, and they would probably have to be viewed in person. This piece was described as 20th century, but still estimated at US$10-15,000. You could probably send the photos to Sotheby’s for a quick evaluation.

      THANK YOU JIM.
This confirms the information I have about FAMILLE ROSE.
The rose bit confused me as it does not appear to be roses!
You have been a BIG HELP!
