Where has America the beautiful gone? I cannot comment on all of this except I think that anyone, regardless of age, who runs
for high elected office in any country should have mandatory MRIs and medical, including psychiatric tests, to rule out dementia,
Alzheimer’s etc. As a prerequisite to running. And a simple, off the cuff, letter from a gp is not sufficient. We live in a frightening world and courage is needed.

Totally agree with you, your “rant”, and the well written comments. I feel fortunate, as an American, to be living in Italy. I am so sad, though, the mess the US is in, and the American public.

Please continue to express your beliefs on so many important issues.

By the way, fuel prices, heating and energy costs, and food prices, have gone up MUCH more, in Europe, than in the US.

Something else- Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is beyond horrible!! Today was Day 144 since they invaded Ukraine. How can this HORRIBLE person be stopped?

I’ve just read all the comments and your wonderful replies. As someone from over The Pond who’s pleased that we’ve just managed to rid ourselves of a dishonest leader and has watched in despair at what has been happening in America, I’m full of admiration for you taking a stance on this. I’m totally in agreement with everything you have said. At least here in the UK there is support for anyone suffering financially, but where is the help that all the mothers unable to have abortions and having unwanted babies will need in America. Forcing them to go through with unwanted pregnancies without any financial and social aid is totally amoral. AND… how can in be wrong to disallow abortions for those who have been raped or suffered incest. As you say, guns have more rights than women.

You have such a huge following that losing those who disagree with you will not matter and they certainly won’t be missed. We love you. Just continue the way you always have and you can have your rants if you want, after all it is your blog.

In reading all of the comments and interchange, I saw just one that encourages us to get out and VOTE. So I will reiterate: VOTE! Tuesday, November 8th is election day. If you believe in democracy, fairness, having your voice heard, and true CHANGE, this is the first step. ALL 435 voting seats in the House of Representatives, that’s Congress, will be up for election. Of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate, 34 will be up for election. This time, vote as if your life depends upon it, because it just might. Set an example for your friends, neighbors and family members. Just get out and do it.
There are so many things I could comment on regarding this post, but I don’t need to keep saying what others have already pointed out. Anyone who voted for the Orange Messiah in 2016 is responsible for what is happening right now in our Supreme Court. Several of the people wearing robes and masquerading as justices are bald-faced liars who would have said anything to get on the highest court in the land. Don’t whine about what the Court is doing to women’s rights, the environment, and whatever other disastrous moves they will make, if you are or were a Trump supporter.
To the same folks, please go back and read the first amendment: Freedom of speech does not mean you can run around, willy-nilly, spouting off anything you please. It means you can speak without fear of interference from the U.S. Government.
As to the Second Amendment, it doesn’t mean you can own as many guns as you want or that an 18 year old, or anyone for that matter, should be able to have an AK 47, or other assault weapon. When those words were ratified in 1791, there were no police departments or highway patrols. And the guns to which they referred were single shot muskets. I am so sick of being accused of wanting to take people’s guns away, simply because I am outraged over children and other innocent people being mowed down by guns. That is simply ridiculous. Folks, as long as the republicans are in bed with the gun lobby and the NRA, guns will continue to flood the market unchecked. The shootings are not going to stop.
Lastly, the price of gas has NOTHING to do with Joe Biden, who is NOT giving our oil reserves away to anyone! Stop perpetuating that rumor! Joe Biden is a decent, smart, experienced, Knowledgeable man who is capable, due to a life spent in public service, to work across the aisle. To those of you watching these alarmist programs, reading these blogs filled with fabrication, watching FOX news, and listening to Marjorie Taylor Green, just stop it! Just because you read it on the internet does not make it true.

Well, Biden wasn’t on our Canadian election ballot but the same is happening here in Canada. Our Canadian $ exchange rate today is worth only .77 US cents! US $ is worth $1.30 Can.
So come to Canada buy your gas/groceries here. just kidding! Some people here do a cross border trip to buy their gas in the USA say it’s still cheaper than buying here. My American aunt visiting one time said how can you afford to buy groceries – it is so much more expensive than in the USA.

The lies he spread caused the deaths of people on January 6th. He is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people from coronavirus because he tried to downplay the virus lest it hurt his campaign. As for inflation, gas prices, etc. it is bad all over the world right now. If the Republicans would stop their obstruction we could take steps to ease some of these issues, but they would rather you and I suffer than allow a “win” that could be credited to Biden or the Democrats. Please tell me about free speech when the R party is banning books, history and the word gay.
  Going forward will be hard if people like you refuse to see the truth and admit your part in it. Look to Judge Luttig’s remarks during his testimony at the January 6th hearings.
  Listen to what LIz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger said tonight.
  As for me, I am volunteer at the polls each election, I work with the League of Women Voters to register voters, and write letters through Vote Forward. I have my Senators and Congressman’s phone numbers in my phone and call their offices weekly about legislation and other issues. None of these things costs much in time or money. Each of us can find ways to help. Also, make sure to check that your voter registration is up to date. Many states are purging their voter rolls.
  Elizabeth, your rant is right on. Don’t let the faux indignation or accusations get to you. They kept saying we were overreacting. We weren’t and we aren’t.

One need only look up the clinical definition of Narcissistic Personality Disorder to understand who Donald Trump is.

Someone I have come to admire tremendously is attorney George Conway. (His marriage to Kelly Anne is v. hard to understand, but they now reside in separate galaxies politically, and I have to assume also personally.) It is so worth reading his masterful article in The Atlantic https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/10/george-conway-trump-unfit-office/599128/ where he adds the word ‘Malignant’ to the medical terminology, just to drive home there is NO hope of rehabilitation. (He is also the author of the descriptive phrase, “a sh*tshow in a dumpster fire.’) And he has a twitter feed that is 100% worth reading (easy to google, do not need to subscribe).. he curates factual and important news reports AND interspersed are photos and retweets of CORGIS. He adores them and aspires to be “an all-Corgi twitter feed.” Over time, I have fallen hard for him (my husband knows about us : )
It is this focus, his mental illness, that has been underreported, and is so critically important. He is unfit to hold any office. He is THE clear and present danger to American Democracy. His niece, Mary Trump, has been interviewed about him (she is a psychologist)– her insights are sobering and frightening. But we don’t hear from anyone else in the psychiatric community, unfortunately. His unstable, paranoid, dishonest, delusional, unethical, and immoral character can be tethered to each of his innumerable crimes…. a simple PSYCH evaluation would tell the whole story.
I know I am in the best company with those who rise to give you a standing ovation.

Your rant may make you feel better. I seriously doubt rantings or the partisan hearing will change anyone’s mind.
The people that disagree with you will dig in even harder and the ones that agree will go on ranting.
You may hate the politician and or their policies but when you start hating the people, there is your divide!!

We have already lost rights and who knows what is coming next. We have more guns than ever and mass shootings. Women have lost the choice for their own bodies and prayer is okay in public school. Next they threaten marriage equality.. But Elizabeth should get her heart right? Where is your heart?

I remember, or I want to remember, a time when we celebrated those with courage, bravery and morals. We called it character.
We need to elect people with values, character, and the courage to stand up to bullies. No one is above the law. What kind of country do we want? Who can get us there?
I want a safe inclusive fair country. Let’s not bury our heads in the sand and think we don’t make a difference. Our votes can change the country!!! Get out and vote. I am damn tired of the violence too.

Basically, the Republican Party has made a deal with the devil…it’ll be interesting to see how all this eventually turns out. And yes, like most of your commenters, I struggle to find any good news in the current world situation. I keep thinking it can’t get worse…and then it does.
