ARGAN OIL ~ CAFTANS ~ FUN FACTS!

June 15, 2022 45 Comments

My name is Mary Grace Loar.

I go by MG for short.  Hence, I am the MG behind MG Moroccan Gold.

  I am 58 years old.

I live in beautiful southern California and grew up in Huntington Beach.  By day, I am a licensed psychotherapist in full private practice and in-between throughout the week, an argan oil connoisseur and entrepreneur.  I love all things artistic, interior and fashion designs, and colors!

My favorite places to travel are Morocco and Italy!

I am married to a Moroccan and we live with a Gen Z who is still trying to figure life out.

CONTESSA HERE ASKING HER SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THE OIL SHE SELLS……….

What made you try ARGAN OIL in the first place?

The year was 2006.  I traveled to Morocco and was introduced to its beautiful culture of indigenous artisans, cuisine, fashion, and natural, organic beauty products.  Argan oil was one of those “liquid gold” finds that awakened my senses to its sultry feel and slight nutty scent that I found at a local Women Cooperative.  Fast forward to 2015, I wanted to go back to Morocco and get more of the organic, unfiltered, down to Mother Earth version of this oil.  By this period, I was a woman in my early 50s and menopausal, with horrible skin and food allergies to top it off.  I ended up at a dermatologist’s office for the first time.  The doctor told me to get rid of beauty, hair, household, and laundry cleaning products that had certain chemicals and that were contributing to my sudden skin problems.  I was also losing my hair from hormonal changes, and nothing was going right for my skin and hair.  I decided to revisit argan oil for my personal use to help remedy these problems.  But instead of buying it from Moroccan vendors, I had my husband and current business partner go directly to the southern region of Morocco where the argan trees grow, buy the argan kernels directly from trustworthy local farmers at the Sunday market, cold press the kernels by the locals and ship the final product to the U.S. in bulk.

This was how MG Argan Love got started.

  How old were you?

I was 43 years old when I first experienced argan oil.

  Do you have MOROCCAN ROOTS?

No.  I’m Asian-American.  But my husband is Moroccan. So, I have The Moroccan by my side who has the knowledge about all things authentic argan!  So, beware because not all argan oil out there in the market are created equal or real!

Where have you seen the MOST DIFFERENCE in your face, hair or body parts!?

  ALL!

I was plagued by dry itchy, flaky skin and eczema all over. I also developed rosacea on my face. Furthermore, my hair was falling out and was dry and brittle as the Sahara Desert!  None of which I had ever experienced before! Skin allergy (including itchiness on my scalp) was full on. Menopause hit my body and hormones hard. Stress from all the changes didn’t help any.  So, I turned to argan oil to help calm my skin problems and bring back life to my once dull and dry hair.

Since I had cold pressed my own argan oil back in Morocco from the get-go, my face, body, and hair have benefited greatly, helping me with my recovery back to experiencing hydrated and moisturized skin and hair.  With consistent daily use from morning, in-between, and night, I have not suffered from dry skin and acute eczema since 2015.  While the rosacea came from food allergy, (which has been remedied by eliminating certain food products in my diet), the argan oil also helped to reduce the skin irritation that can come with rosacea. Because my argan oil is unfiltered, it is therefore highly concentrated with its organic and beneficial compounds preserved to absorb quickly and moisturize the skin and hair deeply.

As a now 58-year-old woman, hydration for skin and hair is everything!

    Hi Eliz

I commented on this post as well. Anyway, I hope I am not repeating myself. I have used Moroccan Oil on my hair for years and swear by it. If your hair is the slightest frizzy (mine sure is), it is wonderful. I have always had oily skin my entire life, and have only recently been able to use anything that was not water based on my skin, or I would get pimples (yes even at 67). Only recently after taking collagen it is no longer an issue. I am going to check this out.

Hello Elizabeth, hope you’re doing well. I think I need some of the Argan Oil. My hair is Bry and it’ seems to be thinning out. Getting older is scary sometimes. I think my arms are slowly starting to go south but I’ve read that’ exercising the triceps muscle helps. So I started doing that today but have to be careful because I have had muscle issues in my back. I’ve been seeing a physiotherapist and it’s helping it she’s away for a month so I have to watch what I do.
My husband and son will be leaving for the US in 2 weeks for a 3 week vacation but I have to stay behind due to work commitments. I’ll use the time to try and catch up in some ‘girlie’ things I’ve neglected for a long time.
I enjoyed reading your fun facts especially about Mona Lisa. I never noticed her lack of eye brows!

I am tempted to try, but very happy with Osea made from seaweed (undaria algae per bottle). There is no doubt OILS are necessary for all ‘ageless’ women : ) More often than not, I find myself thinking I have become the Tinman from Wizard of Oz and need that oil can in my purse for all my rusty joints! Thinking about the crowned dachshund —Devyn’s other love of her life (who I think does wear an invisible crown), ‘Ziggy.’ But concerned about the laundering of linen and her lifestyle, and she is not a laundress : ) Also don’t know if a caftan would appeal, so will think about it…

I have never tried Argon Oil, so this was really interesting. I have used DHC Cleansing Oil and Vintner’s Daughter Serum. I agree with Sandra – I do like oils.

Great question Sandra! Argan Love and Argan Peace are twin bottles because they both have the same argan oil content. The application from each bottle therefore is for the same purpose: to moisturize and revitalize skin or hair by providing intense hydration. The packaging and messages are just different but speaks and advocates commonly towards overall wellness and wellbeing.

So, here’s a somewhat funny story behind Argan Peace and Argan Love. They actually had a third sibling named Argan Joy. These three were supposed to bring a Merry Christmas cheer in one cozy bundle to everyone…until a trademark issue to cease and desist “Joy” landed on my legal team’s desk. A very well renowned and iconic beauty and fragrance company said that Joy was/is off hands even though my trademark is Argan Joy…two words. Needless to say, being a small company, I had to forego Joy and simply kept Love and Peace. Then, rather than spreading Love and Peace only around the holidays, I decided to spread them throughout the year! Because why not! We can all use love, peace, pure self-care and pure calm in our lives everyday! And if these words can resonate in the hearts of all, then, what a treat for us because we deserve to pamper ourselves! Whether that is with argan oil or something else that is good for our spirit, our skin or our hair, we deserve to indulge in only the truest and best. At least, that’s what I had and have in mind. Lol. So, I hope that is yours too!

OK, I didn’t comment yesterday because I didn’t want to be negative. I had tried an argon oil in the past but it was too thick. But Elizabeth tells me that this argon oil is not. Then I read one of the replies by MG about her product. I must try it. It sounds much better than the one I was using. I love the idea that it comes from a small company with personal controls over it. I love oils. I use at least one everyday. I love the idea of this being use all over top to toes. Thanks for making us aware of this Elizabeth.

Very interesting! I have a question for MG…
Does the Argan oil go rancid? I have found that when I use face oils, they tend to get an off-putting smell after a very short time. Also, the rancid scent migrates to my pillow and pillowcase if I use before bed. I have tossed all of my oil based serums for that reason…I’d love to know more about the fragrance aspect of your oils.
You have lovely skin, by the way!
As to the flappy arms, Elizabeth, I just checked mine out since I’ve never really paid much attention to them. For 65, they look pretty good but that’s probably because I’ve always had string bean arms. Not much skin to flap…
I happen to think yours look still look damn good!!
    Enjoy that beautiful garden!

Excellent question Stephanie! Authentic argan oil does not go rancid. It must only contain one pure ingredient that is 100% clean from carefully hand selected argan kernels. In Morocco, real argan oil for cosmetic purposes actually has no expiration date but we have to establish one here in the U.S. for consumer protection.

The argan oils that do go rancid, including from some bottles that have USDA organic labels on them (unfortunately because I tested one!), may be due to the following: a) the batch had additives such as sunflower oil or fragrant, essential oils mixed with the argan oil or b) the oil was cold pressed from argan kernels retrieved from the argan fruit nuts that were excreted by the goats that ate them from the trees. These particular fruit nuts are unsanitary for cosmetic products but some companies buy the oil in bulk that may have been from these nuts and wouldn’t know until their customers have a disappointing experience. Others may have added chemicals or coloring.

We only work with honest, ethical farmers in Morocco and have total control over the cold pressing process for quality control. We only do small batches at a time to keep everything fresh. Our cold press machine only press argan fruit kernels; no other nuts (ie, peanuts, almond, etc) are processed from the same machine. Why? Because I’m sensitive to certain nuts! But just so it’s clear, argan oils are from argan fruit trees.

We also keep our argan oil unfiltered, meaning it only goes through the cold press process one time. Hence, it’s highly concentrated to preserve its organic compounds that bring out the rich nutrients for the skin and hair. Real argan oil will also have a slight nutty scent, MUST be yellow gold in color (not clear white or deep gold from added coloring). Because true argan is fast absorbing, the scent will dissipate within a minute or less and your pillowcase ought not to be a recipient of any rancid smell or oil smudges. Genuine argan will also not feel greasy or leave the grease on you or you bedding. That’s a sign of additives.

My rule of thumb for use is ONE drop at a time and not to overdo. Ours has multi-use but that’s true for real argan oil across the board. One can use it for the face, lips, decolletage, body, hair, scalp, cuticles, hands and feet, elbows, and some will use it for lubrication during intimacy. Our argan oil can be used to supplement one’s already existing beauty regimen. I encourage people to test the oil first on their wrist incase they have any sensitivities.

I hope this helped! It’s important to be well informed about products in general.

Mary Grace does have glowing skin. Seems to work for her. I have traveled to Morocco and it was full of mystery. Argon oil seems to have been another mystery, until now.
Loving the cotton addition. My favorite fabric. Variety is nice.
In the eight grade science class, I raised my hand to answer the question of hot/cold water ice question. I answered hot. Wrong… the teacher explained hot water must first reach cool temp before it can begin turning to ice therefore taking longer. Cold is quicker. If this is true he owes me that A.
