CARPETS,PARTIES & MEET-UPS!

January 25, 2024 89 Comments

WALKING THROUGH JANUARY LOOKING FORWARD to February!

OLAF and I FLATTENING THE NEW CARPETS in the KITCHEN!

ANOTHER HELPER IN ADDING WEIGHT TO THE THREE NEW CARPETS!

Three animals and THREE CARPETS……….makes sense to me!

The ITALIAN dislikes them as they are tripping hazards.

HE LOST THAT ROUND!

THE CARPET MASTER IN ACTION!

WITH ASSISTANT ON COFFEE TABLE.

THIS IS WHERE OLAF GETS HIS BRUSH OUTS NOW.

HE KNOWS TO CRUISE BY HERE FOR A GOOD BRUSH OUT EACH MORNING!

I can even FIT on the floor with HIM on the carpet!

SANTA BROUGHT HIM A RAINBOW HAIRBRUSH FOR HORSES AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY!

SPEAKING OF OLAF THIS IS A MEAL FOR HIM.

1/4 CUP PIGGY PELLETS.

ABOUT THREE MINI BABY CARROTS.

A BANANA.(WHICH IS A SPECIAL FRUIT ONLY ONCE IN AWHILE!)

A HEAD OF ROMAINE LETTUCE FROM COSTCO.(AS THEY ARE SMALLER AND CHEAPER!)

PLUS, PRUNE JUICE IF A MORNING MEAL.

I COVER THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL with the juice.THEN ADD HOT WATER.

ANYONE CARE TO FIGURE OUT THE CALORIES HERE?

NOT MANY!

THIS MEAL IS GIVEN TWICE A DAY with a different vegetable or fruit; MINUS THE PRUNE JUICE. THAT IS GIVEN JUST ONCE A DAY.

A PROFILE VIEW FOR YOUR CRITIQUE!

IS HE LOSING WEIGHT OR NOT?

HE DOES NOT GRAZE OUTSIDE AT ALL, NOR AM I GIVING HIM ANY SNACKS.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT WE HAVE HAD HIM NOW FOR FOUR MONTHS.HE HAS DONE A BIT OF DAMAGE TO MY PHOTOS AND ANTIQUE TEXTILES…………HE HAS SHREDDED MY TABLECLOTH AND MOVED ITEMS THAT ANNOY HIM!

HE HAS DESTROYED THREE DOG BEDS.

WE WILL GET THROUGH IT……….

THIS IS THE TODDLER STAGE.

A BIRTHDAY TO CELEBRATE in Southern California!

80 YEARS OF LIVING!

THE BIRTHDAY GIRL (my cousin) AND HER SON (my second cousin).

Along time ago My Cousin NINETTA came to help my mother when I was born in MODESTO, California! That was 1960.She would have been 16 years old.I guess there was a small accident with an electric MIXER and the BEATERS!

As I heard about it for the rest of my LIFE from my MOTHER!

Ninetta got her fingers caught up in the beaters as it was moving.I do not think any fingers were broken but it was a story that has stayed with me FOREVER!Whenever, I use that KITCHEN AID MIXER I THINK OF HER!Always, unplug it before trying to remove THE BEATERS!

THE LESSON WAS LEARNED BY ME AT A VERY YOUNG AGE!

I DID LOVE TO MAKE THOSE BETTY CROCKER CAKE MIXES!

LATER IN LIFE I READ SOMEWHERE IN A MAGAZINE TO ADD ONE CUP MAYONNAISE TO IT ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER INGREDIENTS AS IT WILL BE SO MOIST!

NOW YOU KNOW MY SECRET!

NO ONE CAN GUESS ITS A BOX CAKE MIX!

Then when I was 16 years old 1976 I went and lived with NINETTA and her family.

This guy here (my second cousin) had a MASK and hid under my bed one night!

MY SCREAM WAS SO LOUD;I think I may have SCARED HIM MORE as HE NEVER DID THAT AGAIN!

I had to SHARE that STORY with HIS SONS AT THIS PARTY as it was the first time I had met his SONS as ADULTS at their GRANDMOTHERS 80th BIRTHDAY SOIREE!

ED’s two SON’s on either side of me with ANOTHER COUSINS SON on the end.

A SECOND COUSIN!

GOT THAT?!!

THERE WILL BE NO QUIZ at the end, but a FUN FACT is the two on either side of me( third cousins) their GRANDFATHER played major league football for the DETROIT LIONS and San Diego CHARGERS!

GUESS WHO THIS IS………….thats right THE ITALIAN!

THE BIRTHDAY GIRL told me NOT TO DRESS TOO WILD so I WORE BLACK!

We both wore black with PEARLS!

Over the years I became the BENEFICIARY of her CLOSET CLEAN-OUTS and her WONDERFUL TASTE IN CLOTHES AND SHOES.

We both wear the same size shoe!

When I lived with her she was into EARLY AMERICAN ANTIQUES and had an (ugly) portrait of a child she named BETH after me!I wonder what ever happened to that painting?I MUST FIND OUT!

IT was a FUN JOKE and we would GIGGLE from time to time about THE PORTRAIT hanging in the Family Room while she made home made DUTCH BABIES for breakfast! Her style now is ELEGANT EUROPEAN.YOU COULD SAY A LOT OF MY TASTE CAME FROM HER!

SHE HAS ALWAYS GIGGLED A LOT AND THAT IS SOMETHING I ADMIRE.

AND HERE WE ARE………….I ALWAYS CONSIDERED HER MY OLDER SISTER!

Here WE ARE leaving THE BALBOA BAY CLUB where we stayed for two nights to CELEBRATE MY COUSIN!IT poured rain all day and I rested and had my hair washed at one of those DRY BARS!

ALL GOOD INFORMATION FOR YOU TO HAVE!

JOKING!

THE ITALIAN HATES WHEN I ASK PEOPLE TO TAKE OUR PHOTO but truth is we do not have that many TOGETHER and its not easy getting a good one I like!

I LIKE THIS ONE!

FLOWERS BY THAT NURSERY THAT NO OTHER NURSERY CAN MATCH!

https://www.rogersgardens.com

THEY NOW HAVE A RESTAURANT CALLED FARMHOUSE.

WHERE I MET TWO BLOG FOLLOWERS AND AN OLD FRIEND FROM WAY BACK!

DONNA I DID THE MATH!

SIT DOWN!

WE GO BACK AT LEAST 45 YEARS!!!!!!!

FARMHOUSE IS A BEAUTIFUL SITUATED RESTAURANT IN THE MIDDLE OF A GARDEN NURSERY IN Southern California.MY MOTHER USE TO WORK HERE ON THE WEEKENDS AND LOVED EVERY MOMENT!SHE WOULD TELL ME STORIES ABOUT THE “KIDS” THAT WORKED THERE AND HOW NICE THE PEOPLE WERE…………THERE WAS ONE PERSON SHE SPOKE A LOT ABOUT WHO HAPPENED TO BE AT OUR TABLE THE NIGHT OF THE BIRTHDAY SOIREE!

MY MOTHER WAS SPOT ON ABOUT OPAL!SHE CAN MAKE ANYTHING HAPPEN AND HAPPENS TO BE THE NICEST PERSON YOU CAN MEET.HER HUSBAND IS JUST AS KIND AND LOVELY.HE TOO WORKS AT ROGERS GARDENS.CAN YOU IMAGINE WORKING TOGETHER AS HUSBAND AND WIFE?

WELL, THATS HOW THE ITALIAN AND I MET SO IT CAN BE A POSITIVE THING!

THEN AGAIN MY MOTHER WAS RIGHT ABOUT MY HUSBAND!MY MOTHER WAS THE ONE WHO POINTED OUT THAT THE ITALIAN WAS A CATCH AND TO GIVE UP THE HIGH HEELED SHOES!

I LISTENED TO HER AND TOOK A BETTER LOOK.

WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 40 YEARS!

MARRIED FOR 38!

NOW ABOUT THOSE LADIES I MET FOR LUNCH AT FARMHOUSE!

Below is TRACY a follower of mine for years! The Blog and Instagram.Years ago when I did AGELESS STYLE I recall asking her to be one of my VICTIM’s!We had a lovely conversation about it but it never came to be.Recently we have re-kindled that conversation and have been discussing home decor, grown children and LIFE!It’s AMAZING the connections that can be MADE HERE IN THE CYBER WORLD!The BEST PART IS MEETING IN PERSON!What a DELIGHT that is and there is NEVER ENOUGH TIME!

Lunch at YOUR HOUSE next time TRACY so I can SEE THE MILLWORK!

THE GAL WHO KNOWS ME FOR OVER 45 YEARS AND STARTED THE EXHAUSTION CLUB WAY BACK WHEN!OR WAS IT JULIE?I THINK THE TWO OF YOU CAME UP WITH THAT NAME WHICH OF COURSE WE LOVED!FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT TO KNOW WHAT THAT CLUB WAS ABOUT.IT WAS ABOUT ESCAPING THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND GOING TO THE DESSERT TO RELAX FOR TWO DAYS A WEEKEND AND SIP COCKTAILS AROUND A POOL, LOOK AT MAGAZINES AND GO OUT FOR DINNER.THIS OF COURSE WAS BEFORE AIR B&B AND UBERS!

WE LAUGHED A LOT!

CONTESSA WITH ONE OF HER OLDEST FOLLOWERS……………..LOREEN.

LOOK WE ARE BOTH WEARING FLORAL MOTIFF’S TO MATCH OUR SURROUNDINGS!

WE THINK A LIKE………..I LOVE THAT AND DIDNOT EVEN NOTICE IT UNTIL NOW!

NINETTA’s CAKE and NO I DIDNOT MAKE IT WITH MAYONNAISE!

There is one last tidbit to share as a dear friend says CROWD SOURCING IS GOOD!

LAST week I had the EJECTION FRACTION test done on my heart to see if we had made progress in the last SIX MONTHS.It will be a YEAR come MARCH I was told I was in HEART FAILURE.I personally felt like I was headed in the WRONG DIRECTION as I SLEEP ALL THE TIME.SO VERY TIRED…….its getting rather ANNOYING!

Well, I went UP ONE WHOLE POINT SO NOW MY NUMBER IS 42.

I started at 31 last March.

Not the number I was LOOKING for but I’ll take it!

If any of YOU HAVE STORIES OR KNOW OF ANYONE WHO has gone through similar EF NUMBERS would you be so kind as to SHARE with me in THE COMMENTS.

We will continue on the Heart medications and I have decided to go back to MY PILATES REFORMER CLASSES.ONE on ONE with the PRIMA BALLERINA I use to take group classes from in a gym prior to COVID.WE will start one day a week and see how I do!

APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE AND READING ALONG!

ALL COMMENTS WELCOME BELOW KEEP SCROLLING DOWNWARDS!

YOUR ONE AND ONLY CONTESSA in your LIFE I would IMAGINE………loads of GIGGLES from me TO YOU!

    Hi Elizabeth,
I am very late with my comment. I can blame life or books. It’s probably a bit of both. My son turned 18 this past Monday. Where does the time go? He is very stressed with exams and other ‘fun’ things so he didn’t get to celebrate much but will have some friends over on Friday night. My husband and I have been ordered to vacate the house so we will go get dinner somewhere 🙂

I think Olaf looks slimmer now than when you first got him. He’s cute and seems to eat very healthy meals,

Your cousin does NOT look 80. She must have good genes. It’s good to see you and The Italian having fun. Hope your health is doing better.

Late to the garden party… loved everything, as always!! Adore, adore, adore the photo of your little Cinderella with Olaf… Disney needs to pay a visit to your casa… they would cast her on the spot… she is so adorable. Wishing and hoping one day I will have a granddaughter, but must be patient, they just bought a house, so babies (and another puppy : ) are on the Waiting List. Love reading all the thoughts and stories and your relative’s bday celebration was so much fun! Like you, she is so elegant…must run in the DNA. Now I want to go and make a box cake w/ mayo…really cannot wait!! XOXOXO

I always so enjoy your lovely posts. Good to see you out and about and enjoying life.Your cousins party looked wonderful as did you in your black and pearls. The photos of you and the Italian are so precious , I am the same so hard to get a photo together . It must have been quite a treat catching up with old friends and the garden centre sounds right up my street.
Glad you have had some good health news even if not at quite the level you had hoped for , slowly but surely.

I think it’s so funny YOU ALL think I donot wear BLACK!!That was an assumption made by a few of you as I’m usually in color! What I talked about and still DO IS THE EXERCISE PANT.Remember they only came in black and gray for the LONGEST TIME?That became a staple for many.
Which in MY OPINION wasNot a GOOD LOOK for quite a few.
It was an EASY COMFORTABLE WAY TO DRESS and still is!
Here I sit in GRAY EXERCISE PANTS NOW as they are the perfect pant for The Chiropractor!
Ps.I came straight home after that one stop!

Your cousin Ninetta is beautiful- A very Happy Birthday to her. It looks to have been a lovely celebration with the gorgeous flowers and cake, and a chance to reconnect with all your other cousins and relies. You both are stunning in your blacks and pearls- a classic and beautiful combination that is always in style.
A very good photo of you and GP- definitely a keeper. So happy to hear your heart numbers are improving, may they continue up. I love the rugs for your menagerie, and they seem to appreciate them as well. Oh, and Olaf does seem to look more svelte in his phot op. Much love, L.

    Hi there CONTESSA
What a beautiful spot for an 80th birthday party – the tables looked so elegant with the floral arrangements and I saw guests each had a gift box at their place setting = so thoughtful. A celebration to remember.
I got a chuckle reading “don’t dress too wild” for the celebration.
My cat is like Olaf – wrecked a couple pieces of jewelry by chewing on them – flicks things off tables/mantle – attacked my lovely rice paper folding screen – instead of using her scratch post attacks my floor storage baskets – kitchen leather chairs. etc.
What a nice meet up/catch up with relatives and especially ladies from your past.
Have you thought of doing chair yoga? I don’t recall there being a lot of head movement with some of the positions. I had not heard of ejection fraction – I must see if is mentioned on any past tests I had. Unbelievable now re the neurologist!
Some people unsubscribed – oh my – oh well – they will miss a lot – I always enjoy your blog as it has such variety – info – humour – fun – connects people- a day brightener.
Let’s hope the rain stopped here for the day.

Yes!I have SEEN that chair yoga on THE GRAM!But it requires yet ANOTHER APP WHICH TO BE HONEST I HATE APPS!I try to function without!!Another excuse but mostly FEAR keeps me away.I realize most of you do NOT UNDERSTAND what I go through with the Focal SEIZURES and to be honest once again I’m tired of explaining them. They are HORRIFIC and any movement what so ever can set them off.
Bending at the waist.Reaching for the sky.Touching your toes!!The list goes on and on!
      Thank You for the suggestion!!

Thank you for another lovely blog post. It’s wonderful to read about you keeping up family and friend relationships over so many years!. I am still pet less and still a big Theodore fan.

I also am dealing with a medical issue. Have had 4 ER visits in the last 2 months – 1st was 11/28/23 and the recent 3 more frequent time wise. I normally have good blood pressure around 120/80 w/o meds but for the last 2 months have had BP spikes to over 200 plus that sent me to the ER. time and again With these episodes I have a lot of pressure in my head and my chest, and had a head MRI at the ER as they thought is was a TIA. I finally managed to see a neurologist (very difficult to get appointment), who said my episodes were not TIA and referred me for an Echo and an EEG. I am scheduled for these next week and finally managed to schedule a cardio appointment next week also. The neurologist thought my episodes may be EF related, I am hopeful to get some clarity on the cause and diagnosis soon. My next neurologist appointment is 3/27/24 – doing my best to change to an earlier date, The specialty provider shortage is astonishing here in central NC.

As a background element: I started the “plant based diet with zero added fat” after reading the Esselstyn, Ornish, McDougall and Barnard books. As an aside – I am diabetic w. high cholesterol, taking statin and metformin. I understand all these factors to be inter-related and am hopeful the zero fat plant based diet will be an overall improvement.

Another aside – I have yet to get a blood pressure med, I need to see the cardio first as bringing the normally 120/80 BP down w. med would be “worse than the spikes I am now experiencing” – this per primary care provider.

Best wishes on your pilates and yoga – I have spent decades on my couch – trying now to improve my exercise habits – I am ashamed to admit at 76.

Our blogs are meant to be enjoyed not to be hurried through because you and I know how much time it takes to create them!!! especially if you’re like me and never learn to type!!

Can you follow up on that and let me know what happens to those two young girls I would be very curious to know what the penalty will be!!!

Finally getting around to commenting – again, what a fun post! You are quite the social butterfly, yet still have time to pick out new rugs and take care of your pets, all while looking fabulous. I don’t believe I have ever seen you in black – how funny that your cousin said to not dress too wildly. I love your flamboyant style, but black suits you as well; very elegant. You and G seemed to have a good time at your cousin’s soiree/getaway weekend. I loved the photo of the little piggy brusher in her purple princess dress. She surely is a copy of you at that age – loving animals and looking fashionable while doing so. Contessa, I am so happy to hear of your elevated number on the heart measurement. You are making progress! Did you think that maybe all that rest might be helping you to improve? That just occurred to me. Keep getting better and take good care of yourself. Thanks for all of the entertainment you bring our way. Kisses and a big hug to you.

But I do fall asleep in front of the TV VERY EARLY…..so who knows! I learned very early on. I cannot fight it or ignore it. I need to sleep.
Neurologist, now is backpedaling on focal seizures/epilepsy!!!
He is to talk to the cardiologist hip hip Hooray finally after about 10 years two of my doctors will connect. Maybe we’ll get some answers.?!
Today I plan to be Judith and go into the garden and finish fertilizing the roses and flowers for spring time. We are to get rain Wednesday and Thursday, so this is my opportunity to get it done because we need that spring garden!!!
I look forward to seeing your finished remodeled kitchen. I’m sure you’re thrilled to bits about it. Thank you for being my long distance friend and I look forward to talking to you soon.

Ahh. I just love getting your emails. So many things to comment on and photos to enjoy. Everyone has already said everything I would want to say. Lovely photo of your granddaughter and a particularly lovely photo of you and the Italian – that photo needs to go in a frame on a high shelf! I caved and got a kitten after my cat, Nimh passed away in December. Tui is also going through the toddler stage. So far, two sets of blackout curtains that are no longer blackout and couches that are more ‘textured’ than pre-Tui. She is a menace. However, she chose to sleep on my feet last night, so all is nearly forgiven. Love and best wishes to you and your family. And all the best for improving the heart rate condition. Thinking of you.

As an east coast follower of your lovely blog, I, too, have CHF but with a high (or preserved) ejection fraction. That, too, has its own set of difficulties. The stress test, with nuclear medicine added, was a real nightmare, but with lots of supervision, I did get thru it. Exercising, watching sodium intake, proper medication that I am not allergic to, and a great FEMALE cardiologist are important. Learning to be clued into my body is an ongoing project as well. Never thought I would be cooking and eating at home so much in my 80s!! With AFib added, I am getting on albeit carefully. Love your home, your adventures and your style. Great picture of you and your sweetheart. Thanks and Stay well..

    Hi Elizabeth,
What a wonderful 80th birthday party celebration for your Aunt Ninetta. It must had been special seeing your family and friends. Ninetta looks so good. The flowers are so beautiful and I love the cake with the sparkle candles.
Big congratulations on the increase ejection fraction test. I know you were hoping for a higher number however starting at 31 and now 42. You are going in the right direction.
Your granddaughter is a cutie, love her tutu and the color.
Yay, good for you that you are feeling strong enough to go back to Pilates. Have you ever attended a Yoga class?
Nice celebrating so many years of friendship, you know how to keep up the connection. That speaks volumes who you are.

MY AUNT WAS HER MOTHER but that’s okay it was a lot to take in!
Ninetta is my cousin and she is 16 years older than I am.
From what I understand the EF will not change much now.Which is a bit of a DOWNER.
I do NOT feel strong enough to go back to PILATES but am making it happen in private lessons so we can go at a snail pace! This is all a Trial for me.Yes, I have done YOGA but there is too much up and down with the head for me…………….I cannot move my HEAD up and down or side to side that causes me to lose my vision! That is the Focal Seizures another ailment I am trying to GET RID OF………with NOT much LUCK.My EPISODES went up last year by 18…………..another number I am NOT HAPPY ABOUT!
I TRY TO CONNECT AND KEEP FRIENDSHIPS GOING.I am at a time in my LIFE were there is not much going on so am able to do it.I love connecting and going down memory lane!
      THANK YOU!

I’m afraid you’d break your neck on the rugs. Forget about yout atlas how about your neck? Listen to the Italian. Speaking of him. He looks so handsome in his coat and tie. You in black? Ii would never have guessed you had a black dress. Looking good no matter what you wear. I used to make boxed cakes up in Sun Valley for cook outs. Everyone loved them. I don’t thin I had the trick about mayonaise. But those mixes are darn good. The party and all the goings on look like great fun!!!! Am I the only person who has not been to Rogers Gardens? I know they are wonderful. One day!!!! I always love your blogs!!!

One thing I very much miss about living in Orange County is Roger’s Gardens. We used to go there as a family. Even in their obnoxious teenage years, both daughters would never turn down a trip to the gardens. They are both avid and talented gardeners to this day. My oldest is helping us with the landscaping plan for ”el cobertizo”.
What a marvelous party for your cousin! Love your outfit and pearls, as always…but I am interested in what you would have worn if she hadn’t told you not to dress too wild…;-).
As for Olaf- I’ve always thought you brave to welcome a pot bellied pig into your home. They’re really smart and can and will learn. I love that your animals are so accepting of each other. That reflects on the harmony of your home.
Anyway, I could go on..all of your newsletters evoke warm and sentimental feelings. Except for your sketchy health issues, which are worrisome, yet it does appear that you are making progress. In the meanwhile, being a member of the afternoon nap club isn’t the worst thing.
Finally, I agree with the Italian about the rugs. There is double sided tape for that issue. Not ideal, but it helps keep things in their place.
    Looking forward to February !
    Stay the course!

Love this post. Cousins are so important. I met up with several this past weekend, sadly for a memorial service. They are the special touchstones to our childhood.

I have to correct you though, apologies to be “that” person. Your cousin’s son is your first cousin-once removed. Her children and your children are second cousins. I have several first cousins-once removed who are my age. That’s what happens with large families.

Stinker phase. That’s the perfect definition as I sit here looking at my loveseat in the kitchen that has a velvet slip cover !Yesterday,When I was on the phone with the neurologist, he managed to eat the lion claw foot on it right in front of me. I finally put my finger up to the screen and moved out of sight to swat him but he’s done the damage. Oh my God I will survive this stinker phase, right? This sofa came from the Orbach family of Orbach department stores it’s old. And of course he had to eat the one that stands out and shows the most. thank you for telling me my husband was looking at me with adoring eyes!Thats nice that’s always nice to hear. He was happy to see me in my element as he calls it and I was so happy to see you all and be at Rogers Gardens a change of scenery does a world of good! That’s twice now I’ve been to Southern California in the last month that’s probably it for me for a long time but I sure enjoyed it!
