THE TREE ARRIVED VIA MY YOUNGEST SON NICHOLAS YOU SAW THAT PHOTO LAST BLOG POST BUT HERE IS A REFRESHER!

ARRIVAL BY PICK UP TRUCK/TRAILER!

Which turned out to look like this.

WE had to put furniture around in a circle formation so OLAF would not eat the TREE!

IT IS WORKING SO FAR!

THEY ALL WORKED HARD ON THE TREE!

A READER OF MY BLOG!

WITH HER HOLIDAY DRINK MADE BY HER LOVELY HUSBAND!

How old is SHE?

I shall spill the beans at the end of the POST!

PICK A NUMBER AND SEE IF YOU ARE RIGHT!

SHE HAD A BIG SURGERY THIS YEAR AND SURVIVED IT ALL!

FULL MAKE UP………

EYES BY JONES ROAD 2.0 eye palette.

Hand me down lipstick by my friend SANDRA SALLIN.

There is a foundation on but don’t ask me what it is!

Thanks for all the EYEBROW TIPS last post!

I have yet to start giving them help but that day is around the corner…………

NECKLACE BY ANGELA CAPUTI FLORENCE, ITALY.

MY latest HACK if I am understanding the definition of HACK these days is to wear a turtleneck for warmth as I am ALWAYS COLD and add a NECKLACE WITH GIRTH!

AMAZING THE COMPLIMENTS ONE RECEIVES WHEN THEY ARE AT THE GROCERY STORE!

MOSTLY FROM MEN!

SO YOU SINGLE GALS OUT THERE GO GET A NECKLACE WITH GIRTH!

MY INSIDE STATUE PEOPLE are ready to DANCE the night away……….

I am thinking about tossing out that green ball…….any thoughts?

That glass is from the 1700’s……..supposedly!

Can anyone out in cyber world CONFIRM THAT?

I have it in the safest spot I know.

AT MY KITCHEN SINK!

FROM A LOVELY FRIEND WHO IS READING CHARLOTTE’s WEB IN SCHOOL!

I wonder WHY he thought of me!

NAPKIN ON HER LAP……..

WAITING PATIENTLY FOR HER PASTA!

DADDY’s SANTA CUP from 1987 and PLATE and utensils………note knife rest.

Fork has been eliminated over THE SPOON!

WHICH WAS MINE GROWING UP IN THE 1960’S!

PINK IS THE PREFERRED COLOR………

BETTY ‘S PREFERRED POSITION!

BELLY RUBS WELCOME ANYTIME!

AS A TENDENCY TO SLEEP A LOT!

WONDER WHERE SHE LEARNED THAT?!

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas bella Contessa!! We didn’t do cards this year, either. I don’t know whether to chastise myself for standards slipped or … embrace the pared back traditions. Maybe redemption will come next year!

    Have a fabulous festive season!

Elizabeth, You look wonderful, and I’m so thankful you’re feeling better. Hooray for sleep apnea mask and whatever else you’re doing because it seems to be working and you have more energy. Olaf seems to be right at home, and Betty and Theodore have welcomed him. Sending you much love and good health and a Merry Christmas! Love, Brenda

How beautiful your Christmas tree is and all of your additional festive touches! So lovely to see everything, LA CONTESSA. Oh, wow, I cannot believe your friend’s age as she looks barely over 50. The pig picture is so darn cute! Olaf is looking very happy to celebrate the season with his new family and friends.
Merry Christmas to you and all of yours, LA CONTESSA!

p.s. I am 59 so almost in the ‘group’.

    Hello!
I love this blog. You lead such an interesting life even with all the ailments that provoke you. You are an inspiration. It is just me and my husband for Christmas this year as well. We lost our sweet puppy of 14 1/2 years in June and we are sad and also not quite ready for another dog yet. And I am 55, from Tennessee (Nashville) but 3 months ago we picked up and moved to South Carolina to try something new after 29 years of marriage. So far, it has been a positive thing.
I wish you and your Italian a very merry Christmas.

Thank you for another lovely post. Theodore is my favorite of all your fur babies. I am so glad he recovered and is now doing well, I remember when recently he was in dire straits. I am a cat lover and do not have a cat as I am concerned about potential damage with claws to furniture and curtains. I ask how you manage to maintain all in your beautiful home without apparent damage? Thanks again and Merry Christmas.

      Kate!
The CAT will give you MORE JOY THEN YOUR CURTAINS and FURNITURE!Plus they still do the job they were meant to do!
What you need is an older cat not a kitten! The young are more playful and energetic!
Theodore does have an old chair in the kitchen he sharpens his claws on once in awhile! But they can easily be taught NO!You just have to be firm in saying it.
Orange cats seem to have the best personality in my opinion!I have had black cats calico cat tiger striped cat he was SPECIAL and I’m on my fourth orange cat!I have had CATS my entire LIFE!If you want to discuss more I would be happy to call you!
Send me an email with your number to iolacontessa@gmail.com
Theodore is still having problems but I hope in time it will pass!

Thank you for sharing pics – your house is so intriguing – all the variety of items you have. Love the bulb colours on the tree – so nice and bright.
The animals are so content living in your house.
A very becoming pic of you with your choice of makeup – sweater and necklace. How nice that men are not shy to give compliments!
    The women are “ageless” beauties.
Xmas here will again be the 2 of us. No trip to Hawaii or Mexico. I shall have a neighbour walk on xmas day and see how many palm trees I can find. Yes they grow here in the “wet” pacific north west.

Dear Contessa, So many wonderful things to comment on. I am 52 and live in New Zealand. I enjoy your blog because it is real and because I think you are great. You remind me of my Grandad who I was best friends with – similar enthusiasm, curiosity, love of people/interest in people and energy/zest. You make life brighter with your presence, like he did. I was impressed with the Charlotte’s Web drawing. Clearly much thought and effort went into that – what an honor to be gifted it. My best-friend-cat Nimh passed away last week. I am lost without her. She loved me every day (the dog, our whole family). One of a kind. I don’t think I will ever be so loved by an animal so much again. Your fur-family photos remind me what I am missing. Love your Christmas bling. Reminds me I need to add some sparkle to the front door. It was on my ‘to do’ list. All the best to you and to the Italian and to the fur family for a cosy, relaxed Christmas at home. Love and best wishes.

Hi Elizabeth, Merry Christmas to you and your family! What a fun post. I didn’t know if the tree would fit, seeing it outside, of course it does and it looks beautiful all decked out. I’m glad Olaf decided the furniture surround is enough to keep him from eating it, ha. My favorite pic today is your trio of tired tree trimmers, so sweet.
Those lovely Tennessee ladies certainly defy aging, amazing- they look decades younger.
Love that drawing with Wilbur and Charlotte’s web, some talent! Your little granddaughter with her Peter Rabbit dishes, so adorable. How fun for her to have grandparents that love animals, with animals always all around, that’s the best way to grow up!
You look so pretty in the grey turtleneck with that fabulous coral necklace, that’s a great cold weather look! Still not cool yet down here in La Mesa, though rain is expected here soon, and up north. I hope so, it makes it feel more like Christmas.
I enjoyed seeing all your statue ladies wearing their finery, I love those too. My two (Evelyn and Flora)have greenery crowns, I think I need to add some mini lights too. Do you name your ladies too?
Alway love seeing Betty, Theodore and Olaf just being themselves!
Happy Winter Solstice & take care,
    Brenda

      Brenda!
I recently ran across your photograph in an email you had sent me at my request I believe anyway now I can visualize you once again! The tree was cut down to fit into the house as it was too big. He cut off the bottom trunk part so you were right!
Guess that picture of the three tree trimmers napping is hysterical to me because the Italian is not as cat loving as I am, and of course Theodore loves to climb all over him, and I just cracked up and grabbed the phone to take the picture!
I agree animals are very important part of growing up. They can teach you so many things and be there when you need them. Well happy holidays to you and I hope to meet you maybe this coming year I’ll be down your way. We can meet up at that château bel ahe And have a glass of lemonade or Vino !
      Cheers to The New Year!

Hi again Elizabeth, Be sure to let me know if you’re ever down this way!
I’d meant to weigh in on the green boxwood ball. I love preserved boxwood, but if it’s looking too tired, might be time to let it go. It looks pretty good in the photo!

I think this is my favorite blog post of yours but I love them all. There are so many great pictures – I especially love the one with your Italian and Theodore and Betty. I had to giggle because I love how Theo made himself comfortable on Papa! I agree with one of the comments that this is the best kind of Christmas card from you – inspiring, beautiful, fun and entertaining!
Now for the Tennessee ladies – WOW!!! They look fantastic and completely NATURAL!!!
We must know their secrets – skin care, diet, exercise etc.
can we look forward to interviews with them in an upcoming blog post? I hope so! Sending hugs and wishes for happiness and peace over the holidays. It will be just the two of us and the four fur kids this year and that will be lovely.
        Buon Natale!

That’s a great idea. We can interview the Tennessee ladies on their beauty secrets!
That would make for a fun post!
Happy to hear this is one of your favorites because I sat on this for four days, thinking it was not festive enough, but I didn’t have the pictures, so I just went for what I had and you all seem to enjoy it, which is great to know!

About that green ball…it has such potential! It appears to be boxwood, not sure if it is rooted or just preserved. Either way you could trim it up if needed and spray paint it gold. I think it would look fabulous. And to take it another step it could be draped with faux pearls or similar. Seems that opulent look would be in step with your beautiful style. And so much fun! Hope that helps. Do not throw it away.

      Teri!!!
You are correct it is preserved boxwood it’s been coated with something and the coating is coming off I think and it’s very dusty hard to clean. I guess I need to get a paintbrush and take it outside and spend a few minutes dusting it have had it for years I want to say at least 10 anyway, I love your idea spray and gold, but then it would just be a seasonal item and that means it has to go up into the attic and come back down and my days of climbing in the attic are over and I think the Italian’s Are coming to a close soon because he made a comment about all the Christmas boxes he wants to condense. How dare he I condensed two years ago there are some things I just cannot throw away like Christmas ornaments. My sons made in elementary school that’ll be their job I’m not throwing them away !
Happy, happy holidays and thank you for your comment. It made me smile big time!

We also celebrate just the two of us. Just homemade table decorations (see my Insta account rena.spain) and lots of candles (the latter all year round). The sun is shining and 20 C doesn’t bring much of a Christmas atmosphere.
I estimated the lady with the cocktail glass to be exactly 65. They all look very unnatural for their age and have certainly done a lot for it, because even with good genes it’s not possible
IF THE WORLD COULD JUST WORK IT ALL OUT LIKE THE ANIMALS DO!….that is certainly the greatest wish of all of us. With this in mind, a healthy and harmonious New Year for you and your family

Perhaps you mis-understood me as her surgery was NOT COSMETIC nor has she had anything done!Just a good skin regime from a young age!

      Hello Rena,

At first I thought, “What a cruel comment to make about a complete stranger, and one who will read it.” Then I decided I would tell you a bit about myself instead! I had surgery for a life-threatening condition, but no cosmetic work. If I need it ten years from now, I won’t rule it out. When you say, “They all look very unnatural,” to whom are you referring? All women in my age group who look good? I’m curious about that. It is my duty to make the most of what God gave me; I have a happy heart, and it shows. The way I look is attributable to my heritage, which is largely German, but also Native American; I am proud of that. I have practiced good skin care for many years as well. So, you see, it IS possible! I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

I totally endorse what Deb says about Christmas with just the two of you. It’s a bit sad the first time this happens but you soon appreciate the positives!

We’re having our first full family Christmas this year since 2017. We are not hosting but our daughter is. Our children need to start their own traditions and that is right and proper. After 45 years of staging Christmas and trying to make it magical for them, it’s now their turn. And Granny & Grampy’s home isn’t theirs anymore although they’re always welcome.

I’m trying to help as much as possible but Holly wants me to put my feet up – I’m not good at that! Washing up, however, is always appreciated, so that’s what I’ll do.
Holly is in charge of catering and art direction and she’s every bit as good as me, if not better!

Sending you Christmas Greetings and Best Wishes for a Happy & Healthy New Year, Beth, with your lovely Italian. Your granddaughter is so cute and looks like her Granny too.

When plans have changed for a traditional family Christmas, it hits you hard. But then…no baking cheesecakes or cookies or pies! No cleaning house top to bottom! No rushing to grocery store to pick up a guest’s new dietary preferences! Christmas instead is a quiet breakfast with your mate after opening presents, a lovely lunch, a walk to enjoy Christmas decorations after dark. Just quiet, thoughtful time with the one you love, be it human, furry, feathery, or porcine.

The brain to think up that CORAL NECKLACE !!! A perfection.

Turtle Neck…………….with a safety pin at back to hold it upright in position all the day long.

This is the winter week. 2 pair wool pants, 2 pair socks, cotton long sleeve undershirt, snug wool turtle neck, fat wool turtle neck, cashmere muff circled around neck, hand knit wool hat with pom-pom at top, for INSIDE my house !!! Of course a coat when heading out.

Bedclothes a bit easier. Flannel pants, wool socks (only 1 pair), long sleeve cotton shirt, thick cashmere sweater, wool gator at neck, wool beanie on head, sheet/bedspread/wool blanket/quilt/down blanket.

    NEWS FLASH………..BETTER HEALTH……………COLD HOUSE……………

Under 60f, our body burns brown fat at our gut. While burning that brown fat, it activates youthful aging, fights dementia, better metabolism, healthier mitochondria & etc….

God is so amusing at times ! Wanna live better longer? Get COLD Sugar !!!!

Those BLUE LIGHTS are magnificent. As is entire tree, house, love muffins….

    Big Hug…………………XOT

Your NEWS FLASH hit our house 37 years ago!Thats the Italian’s way since the get go!I nearly died with the move to ITALY AS IT WAS SO COLD UPON WAKING UP!This American girl raised in a warm home with wall to wall carpeting had a BIG ADJUSTMENT to make!
      I do sleep better HOWEVER!
The safety pin, for the turtleneck is brilliant! How did you know for years I have been searching for a turtleneck that stays out and up? I’ll never forget meeting princess Michael of Kent, and she had the perfect turtleneck on, but I was too embarrassed to comment, and I sure wasn’t going to go to England to buy a turtleneck Again it would’ve been a grand idea very hard to come by those turtle necks that stay up anyway sounds like you’re cozy. You’ve got it down! We all do what we have to do and MERRY MERRY to you dear friend. We shall catch up in the new year. I wish you the most memorable, enjoyable Christmas ever!

I love to see all of the details and unique “Contessa Touches.” The details are what make it all special: hats and jewelry on the indoor statues, the animal heads, the table settings, your massive Christmas tree, and the little princess with her special table setting.
