How To Create A BEAUTIFUL Bed

Rough Linen sheets

HOW TO CREATE A BEAUTIFUL BED.Especially if you have TO SHARE with an ITALIAN husband and a few animals now and again!

<project design logo.jpg>

I was ASKED To join a group of DECORATORS to do a POST on BED MAKING!Here goes……..somehow I think MY take will be a bit different!TO see the OTHER PARTICIPANTS go to the BLOGS below……..

I recently discovered the delight of linen sheets by TRICA of ROUGH LINEN.I have NO IDEA what took ME so long but I was WAY behind the people in the KNOW!You see TRICA and her assistant were next to me at THE REMNANTS of the PAST show back in April. They had the most divine aprons on……..I bought a couple.BUT I didNOT look at the sheets……………….

It took me a week or two after the show to look up TRICA’s site on the web and realize I had seen her on another BLOG doing her YOU TUBE show HOW TO MAKE A BED Video.

I tell YOU There will be NO MORE T.J.MAXX sheets for me……..EVER!IN fact, I have tossed all our other sheets!I have purchased the WHITE and the FLAX linen.I dragged my feet about the BALLERINA PINK and lost OUT!They are SOLD OUT.

THE DOUBLE BED.

Our DOUBLE BED with a needlepoint TAPESTRY hanging above.

GLITTER PILLOWS

We sleep in a DOUBLE BED.

YEP…….that’s RIGHT.ALL 5 feet 11 inches of me and my GORGEOUS ITALIAN who has not gained one pound in the 30 years; I have been “SLEEPING” with HIM!

IT was HIS idea………which was a VERY GOOD one as our bedroom would never accommodate a KING size.

His belief 30 years ago was if we shared a small bed WE could NEVER go to sleep angry with each other! As at some point we would have to touch one another……

I recently showed a visitor to my BEDROOM which I always say to myself DONOT SHOW IT but then I get carried away and DO!Because in our MASTER BATH there is the BEST SINK EVER!A 300 year old  kitchen sink from ITALY that I scored on a SUNDAY walk behind our home in TUSCANY…………I’ll save that for another DAY!

THE YELLOW ROOM

When I saw the VISITOR the following week…….she commented on MY HOME and especially THE BED.

She told me HER visit was “LIFE CHANGING!”

“Perhaps, the bed size was the secret to a long marriage.I SMILED inside and thought to myself the things that strike people…………………it was a GOOD thing I SHOWED the SLEEPING QUARTER’S.

Needless, to say she made MY DAY!

A BED ACCESSORY!

I probably make the WORST BED out there in this GROUP of BLOGGERS,but I do like ACCESSORIES.Crowns hang from iron sign holders,DOG BEDS are used in my BOYS ROOM as headboards until I can find EXACTLY what I WANT. MAYBE some of these DESIGNERS could help me?

DOG BED HEADBOARDS

NOT the BEST SNAP BY ME!Wanted to SHOW how you can sit up in bed with these wonderful BEDS for DOGS!Chandelier………I found in my travels for $25.00 and there are TWO of them! The Italian sconces I think I paid $20.00 for that years ago and well  the antlers they came from France. My BEST accessories for the beds in OUR HOME are the animals……………..

Butters and Winston

Try and get a leg in here………………!!!

Sleepy Winston

Tummy RUB required before nap time?

Bed Full

Contemplating the JUMP!NO, not really…………more bed time.Room Full

A BIT of a disaster with shoes, blankets and cords around but DO Note the TEA CUP PIGGY has a VELVET BED TOO!I would NEVER be able to re-create this in a PERFECT ROOM so you get the old photo with the REAL LIFE ACTION around…..shoes,blankets and cords!

Our BOXER has gone to HEAVEN now……….just about a month ago.Happy to have this photo.

BABY BANKSY

I  probably should NOT share this INFO but he TOO sleeps on his bed which is lifted from the cold floor by a french red quilt and a blanket to cover himself. He is THE BEST BABY I have ever cared for……….bedtime is 9:00 pm SHARP and he put’s himself to sleep and then I do not hear a PEEP out of him until I awaken and he hears me!Then WE excitedly make our NOISES and head for LA CUCINA!Time to EAT for BANKSY and Coffee time for me!

Piggy in a blanket

theodore the MAGNIFICENT!

A LOVE OF MY LIFE this CAT……………THEODORABLE as my friend calls him!

THE BOYS

A normal occurrence in this house………..usually in the BED.CAT and DOG together.NO MORE PHOTOS!

AS you can see WE are ONE BIG FURRY FAMILY!

Small Banksy

PIG on a carpet!

Now back to bed making!I should send you to TRICIA’S site to see HER in ACTION!

AS I do the same technique  she has shown.I gave you the link above.Take a few minutes and listen to her with her AUSTRALIAN /English accent. She is the epitome of a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN.

I have purchased a clothes line to hang the gorgeous linen sheets to dry!As per TRICIA’s suggestion………and my divine neighbor had already done ,so I HAD TO FOLLOW suit!YES, that would be a big old mirror in the GARDEN hanging on the tree.

THE SHEETS

BELOW is our NEST for SLEEPING.It suits us perfectly!

SUMMER LOOK

TAPESTRY  was found in a consignment shop!Gobelin pillow RETROCOLLECTSINTERIORS on INSTAGRAM……..a BRIT in FRANCE!Blackamoors a hand me down from my departed AUNT.Floral sofa The first thing I bought off an AD on a  bulletin board in our little town in California!I had it re-covered of course!Headboard was a  consignment shop find it was suppose to go to my shop!OPPS, those things use to happen with me A LOT!!!Rug found in an old COLLECTIVE STORE made out of train cars.Gorgeous FLORENTINE END TABLE found at MY shop the HEN HOUSE!Think we covered all the accoutrements!!

I did iron the top sheet but left the duvet as is after hanging to dry…….as it’s LINEN.GOOD LINEN and that is the WAY she wants to be!The wrinkles do not bother me as it’s the texture that is so soothing.I canNOT stress enough the LUXURY of LINEN sheets!!

PILLOW BED

SWEET DREAMS

I have to tell you I spent about two months hanging OUT in this room EXACTLY five years ago TODAY!My little TICKER went in for a LUBE and VALVE adjustment!I did not pop back as I should have………..well because of that experience I bought myself this FABULOUS MIRROR!I had looked at it for TWO YEARS!It was half OFF!It fit perfectly in the space I had; I know as I measured THREE times!!!I gifted MYSELF before and it kept me company while I recuperated.I NEVER GOT TIRED OF LOOKING AROUND is what I am trying to say……………decorate with THINGS you ADORE!

BEDS & MIRRORS

AUTUMN look below………ADD VELVET!

THEODORE THE CAT will LOVE IT!

FRENCH PILLOW # 2

Winter Look

SLEEP WELL……………..slipping into a home made bed is always heaven after a long day!I really DO LOVE MY BED and say it quite frequently to my husband!Don’t forget to HOOK UP with THE REAL DECOR GALS at the end of my post!I bet WE can LEARN a few TIPS.I was honored to be apart of this DESIGN GROUP!

MILLIE GRAZIE LADIES……….

GOOD NIGHT

SWEET DREAMS…………this little PIGGY didNOT GO TO MARKET!He has NO IDEA how lucky he has it!!!Let’s just say OUI OUI OUI all the way to the BED!!!!A few CHEERIOS HELPED this shot!

PIGGY in THE BED

SWEET DREAMS!

Linen sheets! Who knew! I am rushing out to find a set! Love the Italian Husband’s philosophy on married life. Smart. Sadly we have failed in this regard as share a queen size bed with one cat and two 10lb dogs – each of us clinging to about 12” on each side while our four-legged kids snooze away comfortably. Wrong!

NOt necessarily wrong! We share a double bed with one 25 lb. dog; one 20lb. dog, one 16 lb dog. (I am only allowed to have 2 dogs..the 16 lb one rescued from the on ramp onto the freeway from downtown LA..is the “back up”! “I am not changing the rule!! Now we have two dogs and a back-up!!!!”
      We all cuddle…and everyone fits!

GP is a very clever man!! We have survived in our king sized bed for 38 years, but of course himself is 6’5″ and sleeps on the diagonal, so I do need a teeny corner.

How pleased I am to read that you discovered Tricia’s site for once you sleep in linen there is no going back. I have mauve linen sheets which I love both because of colour and the fact that linen allows a sheet to breath.

Yours is a gorgeous room; the kind of which naturally draws one in to soak up the different colours and textures while gazing upon your many things of wonder.

    Pleasant dreams. xx

Been away working so just catching up on your blogs.
Love, love, love your bedroom! It is a complete sanctuary…..colour, texture, treasures and the collection of animals just bring it all together and yes I know why you want to go to bed each night!! We only sleep in a queen and have done all our married life much to many of our friends horror as they all sleep in king beds but we will be celebrating 30 happily married years this year…and I find if we are sleeping in a king in a hotel we don’t touch but just end up sleeping quite separately. And I agree about the linen sheets – they are the best to sleep with. Now I’m in the new house with our bedroom that has wonderful light at all times of the day ( unlike the last bedroom) and I’m trying to decide how I’m going to style it so it’s looking pretty bare at the moment.
Sleep well while I start the day!!

Our bed is a small french double bed and there are nights I have to put my hand on the bedside table for fear of falling out there being very little room for me, the animals and a 6 foot husband. Would not have it any other way. Deidre.

I know that lovely boxer…..and it was kinda hidden that he “went up” to the Rainbow bridge….recently. I adored that dog. what a sweet face…..(Just so you know….we all miss him. ) He had a great long life.and when he became incapacitated….(please write a blog on this Elizabeth….PLEASE!!!)

It is about what to do and when to do it when a beloved dog can’t walk anymore. This was hard….please tell….Elizabeth. The most beautiful boxer!!!!

By complete accident…I called Elizabeth the very day…to ask some random question…..and she was petting him. Her divine Italian husband was taking them to the Vet to say good-bye.

I almost dissolved….Elizabeth said….I will be brave. We have so many years of happiness with him!

      Is she the best?

Yes….and Giampo also…..they are the perfect team! Sandra Sallin…and others saw this at her birthday….it makes my heart sing to see a”team” like this!!

      YAY!!

    Elizabeth~
I just loved seeing your bedroom! I pictured it just like that; full of rich layers of textures, opulence and LIFE (and that mirror!!). The velvet coverlet was my absolute favorite though….I’d change the décor of a room just to match that!
The picture of all the animals in the bedroom, of course, is the best. It makes it even more special since you’ve had coffee in my bedroom with Scooter and Clyde!
Giampierro is one wise man. In many ways.

Sensual and cozy and LUXE and welcoming and elegant… all at once! I adore your bed in all its variations (including with the animals allowed on)… I must say, I miss the day when our big mutt of a black furry rescue dog took up half my bed (or my younger son’s).

I also love your accessories. A sterile bedroom, to me, encourages an absence of dreams of all sorts, and no “romance” whatsoever!

Exactly..please go rescue a dog that will remind you of that dog!

the shelters are full of them! Honestly…..or go on Petfinders.com. Lordy! I have found two on there! One flown from Kansas (found on the side of the highway with his sister…Corgi mix)
that is our “Pete” who has been here for about 6 years….so he is 7!

the little one….omigod…..my friend was driving down the on ramp onto the Harbor Freeway..and she was going down the same way! Into freeway traffic! My friend thought it was a cat! Just an adorable Corgi/ chihawhah mix!

One came from South Texas…the volunteer had to drive her to the plane at 3:00 because it was going to be 128 degrees by 9 am.!

that is our treasured Luna…8 years ago……..she is now 9!

Thanks for the inspiration, I’m off to look at those linen sheets, I wear the aprons but haven’t ordered the linen for my bed yet, I’m going to take your word for it. Oh gosh I bet they smell so so good too coming in off the clothesline, I’m a huge fan of clotheslines.

You are truly one of a kind! I love your tapestries and velvet and linen and scones – you manage to pull it all together in a cozy way – not formal or stuffy at all. I have Rough Linen sheets too, BTW, although on a foam mattress I found the bottom linen was too rough:(. I have kept the duvet and pillow cases though, and I love them. I kind of want one of her aprons too! She’s local, maybe we should visit her some day?:)

I loved your post the best! Yes, everyone had great posts, but yours was so full of happiness and life! You sold me on the linen sheets. I will have to get some soon. Your bedroom fits you and reflects your happy style. I love all of your animals. Our dog sleeps with us too. (When she wants to that is, she is kind of picky. We call her “cat-dog.”) My husband and I slept together in a full size bed for the first year, but he could not take it any longer. He needed to spread out. I kind of miss the old bed. It was easier to find him! Thanks for making me smile today with your great bedroom post!
