ITALIAN GARLIC BREAD~BRUSCHETTA

July 9, 2020 85 Comments

ALL YOU NEED IS ONE REAL ITALIAN AND SOME GARLIC!

CIAO TUTTI……………how is your summer going?

I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW………………not what we had hoped for.

BUT WE STILL HAVE TO EAT OR MANGIA as MY ITALIAN would say!

Note that is the kissing parasite above his head!

MISTLETOE

And YES HE CAN FIX ANYTHING I KID YOU NOT!

HE braided this garlic that he grew for the first time in our vegetable garden!

WHAT HUSBAND WOULD BRAID GARLIC!

MINE OF COURSE!

AND

OH SO PROUD!

PROUD ITALIAN HUBBY!

I have been asked to join a GROUP of BLOGGERS who are putting on a BARBECUE so we can at least be with OTHERS via THE BLOGS and spicing up our menus!

MY CHOICE is BRUSCHETTA.

EASY ITALIAN GARLIC BREAD.

ALL YOU NEED IS bread, garlic, olive oil, and salt.

YOU CAN DO THIS!

IF YOU DONOT HAVE A BARBECUE just stick the bread in a toaster!

1.FIRST THING FIRST.

MAKE BREAD WARM turn so both sides are TOASTED.

This bread got a little black as it is home made in our pizza oven.

Still utterly DELICIOUS.

2.Peel a garlic glove and rub on one side of bread.

AS much garlic as you can handle!

PEEL ONE CLOVE OF GARLIC GOOD FOR MANY PEOPLE!

AS you just RUB IT ON THE BREAD.

3.Poke holes in bread with a FORK…………just DO IT!

4.Drizzle olive oil the BEST YOU CAN AFFORD over the bread.

Where you poked the holes the oil will spread!

OUR BEST OLIVE OIL.

Drizzle the Olive Oil on the BRUSCHETTA

and watch it absorb below.

5.Add salt a sprinkle is all you need.

We do it with our fingers……..that way you are more in control.

Another version which is more of a mess but completely delicious is to chop up tomatoes and add a little basil. But do step 1 and 2 and 3 first than add tomatoes then drizzle with olive oil and ADD THAT SALT!

YOU WILL NEVER EAT THAT AMERICAN GARLIC BREAD AGAIN!

Well, YOU MAY I WILL NOT!

I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!

Which reminds me about the time the ITALIAN and I were dating and he spent $10.00 on a ball of MOZZARELLA di BUFFALO!He was so EXCITED TO SHARE THIS CHEESE WITH ME!I took one bite and went……….EEEWWWWWW!I like that mozzarella in the plastic BALL better!

All he did was shake his HEAD.

HE IS SUCH A GOOD MAN!

I HAVE FINALLY LEARNED HOW TO EAT THE GOOD STUFF!

(WE CELEBRATED 34 years of MARRIAGE THIS WEEK!)

HERE is a little VIDEO for YOU to watch……….on the making of BRUSCHETTA.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE ENJOYED MY LITTLE COURSE ON ITALIAN GARLIC BREAD BETTER KNOWN AS

Oh my goodness…it is approaching dinner time here and all I want is your bruschetta!!! Your hubby is too adorable with that braided garlic. A belated happy anniversary to you! July is a great month…my Jim and I will celebrate 40 years on the 26th. We were NOT married in beautiful Italy, but in hot and humid Chicago! Always look forward to your words and pictures!

Happy 34th Anniversary to you and your Italian. What a life you two have made. Here’s to many many more. Trying this recipe as soon as possible. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Work continues to repair storm damage at Casa de Frick. What a racket of pounding, drilling, sawing, but staying home and staying as safe as we can. Sending you all the love possible!

I am dying for some bread…trying to discipline right now. Now, of course, Bruschetta is all over the place, but I first had something similar when I lived in Spain, ‘Pan con tomate’ or Pan con Jamon de Seranno. Divine. Certainly would like to have yours with you and the Italian at your house one day when the world is new again. I love your posts and all your friends.

I love this simple recipe…and will also use in place of the croutons I make or buy for Caesar salad (my homemade croutons did not include a garlic clove, just buttered/toasted bread)! Your Italian is a gem.. he reminds me of my husband (who is not Italian, but is a grillmaster and can fix anything…we have been married 45 years (I was 20, he was 28!)

Happy Anniversary, and thank you for always shining a light through your blog… you have always done this, but now more than ever, it is so needed. XOXO

Well when I made mine the other day I did everything correct like the Italian way except poke holes in the bread, I will do that next time. I do like tomatoes and basil on top but it is messy and best to eat over the sink! That calamata pesto with ricotta cheese and basil was delicious. You should try it. Thank you for the correct pronunciation, I was saying it all wrong. I was saying Brew-schetta. What are the big birthday plans? Are you jumping in the car and heading somewhere??? Maybe a road trip to Vegas?? Seeing that it is a big month for not only your birthday, but your anniversary too, you hopefully can do something fun.

Elizabeth you both are the cutest couple. Congratulations on your anniversary! we just celebrated our 32nd? I always get my years mixed up but we were married in 88’ July 2nd. What were we thinking? I laugh because it’s always the worst time to travel for crowds and expense haha. And now with this virus …life has changed so much. Ours was very quiet this year, but perfect, a picnic at the beach. I’m so delighted to read your recipe because I absolutely love bruschetta. Never thought about poking holes in-the bread. Elizabeth – I am a friend of “Lady Diana” in Orinda and had a chance to chat with you at her Valentine luncheon a couple of years ago. I was ready your latest blog and saw that you and your handsome Italian were married at San Miniato al Monte. My dear friend Adele Ricci Personeni’s brother was the bishop there for many years and is now buried in that beautiful church. By any chance did Bishop Ricci preside at your wedding? Small world….

Bruschetta is a huge favorite of mine – probably because I love bread, olive oil, garlic and Italy!
We have a local famous bakery, La Farm, and although the baker is French, he makes the most fabulous ciabatta which I love for my bruschetta! When we don’t plan to light the grill, I make it in the kitchen in a skillet which works in a pinch! I would love to have a pizza oven, and a husband who braids garlic! Mine does pick good garlic bulbs at the market though – of course I had to teach him, haha!!!!!
Stay well and safe – enjoy each day.

    Hi Elizabeth,
I love this post, and the photos of your Italian! His shirt is perfect, would love to get one for my husband! (He’s at this moment repairing a cabinet door that just fell off its hinges this morning. Of course the hinges broke too, and need to be replaced but he’s got something in the garage in that box where the miracles are kept – he,too, can fix anything!)
I love bruschetta, but how do you eat it if you are gluten free? GF bread is not tasty, the one thing I miss but I try not to think about it too much!
This social distancing is finally starting to get to me after having had a small taste of a social life again two weeks ago. I’m so relieved everyone is still healthy and doing well.
I finally planted a bunch of new things and looking forward to watching them grow! My small new bubbler/fountain for my back deck will be ready to pick up this weekend. A dream realized, after so long!

Happy 34th anniversary! I so enjoyed your wedding photos on Instagram … elegant! Love this progressive BBQ idea and I’m printing out the recipes in anticipation of a weekend feast. As our yard is under construction, we’ll wheel out our little temporary BBQ to the driveway and grill away! Off to watch the video and learn to make bruschetta properly. xo

I’ll definitely be back to read about someone who loves red AND has a bunny. Bruschetta is my favourite snack. I live it with tomatoes, chopped onions and basil. And I love the buffalo mozzarella too. And the fior di latte. Now I’m getting hungry again and I’ve already eaten a big plate of pasta.

This looks delicious! May I ask Elizabeth does the Italian make the bread in his oven? I have stopped eating bread but I might try this the next time we have friends over.

I did not make that CLEAR…….MY FAULT.
HE makes pizza for dinner then we wait for pizza oven to cool down to BAKE HIS HOME MADE BREAD.We didnot wait long enough therefore the BLACK on outside of bread.
He always barbecues his BRUSCHETTA.It takes just a minute not even after one finishes using barbecue for main meal……..
AS YOU KNOW I AM GLUTEN FREE SO I NEVER GET TO EAT IT!
PLEASE ENJOY TWO SLICES FOR ME!!!!

Hello Contessa, I like most foods burned a little so that the edges are black, so your bruschetta slices look delicious. I enjoyed the little video, and it was so nice to hear your voice again narrating it. Your post made me wonder what I would serve as part of such a dinner, everything seemed to fancy and gourmet, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I love Giampiero such a great guy. I am now trying the hole poking thing and also I usually don’t put the olive oil onto the bread- just the tomatoes! Excited to try this as I am getting SO many this year.. Wish I could send you some. Great idea to have you all do this. I need a few new recipes. xo

Me again. I didn’t know about poking holes in the bread. Loved that crunch. I bet the bread was gone made by the Italian. How about the tomatoes? From your garden? How about the little board? Just for bruschetta? Husband make the board?

OMG It’s so early in the morning and I want sone of your garlic bread. It looks divine. I love the toasting in the pizza oven. Love the artisan burnt edges. What is your favorite olive oil? My garlic from the grocery store doesn’t look like yours. Also is that little board just made for Bruschetta? Love the video. Yummmmm!!

NO toasting in the pizza oven the bread got black as we were in a hurry and did not let the pizza oven cool down AFTER we ate the PIZZA!The blackness occurred during its BAKE TIME.WE buy COSTCO olive oil by the GALLONS for everyday cooking. The bottle with the MAN is SPECIAL olive oil to us………MADE BY THAT MAN who’s name in ITALIAN is FLOWER!OR FIORE………..my Italian covers it with a brown paper bag and then a newspaper cover so NO daylight will HIT IT!SPECIAL STUFF and NOT FOR SALE!We cherish it and use it on occasions……..like home made bread and bruschetta!!!
That garlic clove was NOT our garlic………as I did not want to BREAK the BRAID!YOU have to SHOP at SAFEWAY to get GARLIC like THAT!!!!!
THAT LITTLE BOARD HAS A WONDERFUL LITTLE STORY!I first saw these in FRANCE at an old SHEPARDS HOUSE we stayed in with FRIENDS!I went CRAZY for them………….I had to have a few!At the time we lived outside FLORENCE, ITAlY……..I actually found in a department store downtown FLORENCE in the kitchen department!I can still FEEL THE THRILL of FINDING THEM way back in 1992!!!Have NEVER seen them AGAIN!XX

I left a comment but I don’t see it now. Basically I said I love the great tip of simply poking the toast to get all the delicious/good olive oil. I’m going to try this tonight!! Thank you and thank the Italian!!!
