NOT DONE WITH THE HOLIDAYS!

January 4, 2017 153 Comments

THIS has to BE one of MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOTS.

CHRISTMAS EVE with my GRAND DOG GOOSE!

He had been given a NO SINK Life jacket as he likes to swim but DOES NOT FLOAT!

IT was the PERFECT GIFT from MY SISTER IN LAW to my SON.

The only thing I bought AFTER CHRISTMAS via my COMPUTER.

NOT SURE THEY ARE ME!!!!!

NEW YEARS EVE

A small packet arrived via NEW YORK from one of the METS OPERA SINGERS!

You see I follow her on INSTAGRAM

I commented on her TREE

and what happens NEXT is she wants to send me something from THAT tree!

Could she please have my address.

I had to say YES!

DO you see the sparkly rectangle like tree ornament?

Well, instead of adorning my TREE I adorned MYSELF

on NEW YEARS EVE!

I will get to NEW YORK to see HER SING!

YES, I will

YOU just wait and SEE!

ME

Wearing MY GIFT from AGENT 43!

THE WREATH on TOP of MY HEAD!

Can YOU BELIEVE IT?

I think it SUITS me to a TEE!

AND Then

A CHRISTMAS GIFT from MY SON

The SPARKLY NECK BIT

Just ADDED MORE POP To my VINTAGE TEXTILE FUN!

&

GOOSEMAN (the BOXER) almost ASLEEP on my lap on Christmas EVE.

YES,

I did have a good CHRISTMAS INDEED I DID!

THE BIG GIFT from the ITALIAN to me

Besides the much NEEDED NEW BLENDER came as a puzzle.

I was given three boxes with letters.

ONE  TWO  and THREE.

A word puzzle.

THANK GOODNESS I had HELP.

First born GOT GARDEN right after I laid the letters down!

SECOND BORN got CHELSEA .

I came in THIRD with ENGLISH.

I will be attending THE CHELSEA GARDEN SHOW in LONDON this SPRING!

2017

IT has been on MY bucket list for YEARS!!!!!!

YOU can IMAGINE HOW THRILLED I AM.

Sometimes HE does LISTEN TO ME!

HOW GRATEFUL AM I!

But

I have mentioned one week just willNOT cut it as I have FRIENDS; BLOGGING FRIENDS and INSTAGRAM friends who I have never met in person and well, I canNOT be SO close and NOT MEET THEM!

CAN I?

The answer to THAT is SIMPLE.

NO,

I will do MY VERY BEST TO SQUEEZE YOU ALL IN only if YOU have time for ME!

AND if you are a READER here and you reside in ENGLAND make certain I know!

As I would LOVE to MEET UP WITH YOU

AS WELL!

THE DECEMBER FESTIVITIES

came to an end. ONLY to CREATE MORE FOOD and FESTIVITIES for THE ITALIAN as he has a BIRTHDAY on the SECOND day of JANUARY!

FESTOONING

THE BIRTHDAY BOY

who cooked the entire meal HIMSELF.

WE LOVE MEN WHO CAN COOK!

OH, YES WE DO!

YES, he makes BREAD which I caNNOT EAT!

GLUTEN FREE HERE.

One DAY he tells me HE will attempt the GF version!

I think I can wait as that will just ADD on MORE if you know what I mean!

The ORANGE CAT

THEODORE

on the ORANGE LOUNGE!

He has been spending LOADS of time indoors as our temps are COLD.

IN the 30 and 40’s.

I know CANADA and BACK EAST

LAUGH AWAY!!!!!

WE CALIFORNIANS ARE FREEZING!

WHIMPS, is MORE like it!

GO ahead and laugh with GLEE!

WINSTON

“Got my SANTA hat MOM now what do I DO?”

Nothing better than to be SMOTHERED in SMOOCHES from your GRAND BABIES!

These BOXERS are MOTHER and SON.

The MAMA LICKING ME can you see that TONQUE?!!

AND perhaps the ULTIMATE GIFT this past year

is for this little BOY to be moving in across the STREET!

You see it was a GOOD thing we took those 1940 windows to the GROUND and MADE FRENCH DOORS.

As I will have them OPEN in the late afternoons

Hoping for HIS Music to come wafting in across the way!

YOU SEE HE SINGS OPERA.

ITALIAN OPERA.

The PIANO as well.

CONTESSA HERE is THRILLED.

I find this ALL to be JUST SWELL.

PAWS on VELVET

Works for ME any day of the WEEK.

Nothing could make ME SMILE MORE.

MAY YOU BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY  in THIS COMING YEAR!

You READERS bring me JOY day in and day out

I HOPE

I have brought you something to SMILE ABOUT!

Loved your blog! I follow you on Instagram and love your posts! I am also gluten free… I have found a wonderful flour that makes delicious bread, actually anything. It is simply by Pillsbury and is a one for one match. So no adding other ingredients like xantham gum. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures this spring. I long to go to the UK to shop, maybe someday. Till then I will live through your adventures. Safe travels!

Chelsea Flower Show!!! Oh my: I had every intention of going this year (first time!) but now for various reasons, cannot. Oh, wouldn’t that have been fun??? So I’m hoping to go in July to the Hampton Court show and then do a 4 day garden tour of some kind. Am looking into them now and have my garden tour expert helping me.
What wonderful pictures of your holiday, and you are lucky to have a man who cooks!! I don’t. Well, he does ALL the cleaning and is superb at it, so I think that’s a good substitute, no?
Happy New Year to you Contessa!

You are looking so regal in your photos!! OMG the Italian husband out did himself this year with the most wonderful generous Christmas present to you……Chelsea Flower Show!! Knowing you, I’m sure you will see the Queen when she visits and maybe even lucky to see The Duchess of Cambridge too! There is an Australian nursery from Victoria that competes every year and has won several times for best display. Your London online friends will be so excited to finally meet you……you should have a soirée somewhere for everyone to gather and meet don’t you think?
Just seen that the West Coast of US will be getting terrible storms again…..feeling glad we have left San Francisco just at the right time and now enjoying the amazing hot weather 35 C (91F) back home. At least it’s easier to get dressed with my fractured shoulder in summer clothes than in winter clothes!!
You will be a divine mentor to your young operatic singing neighbour…….so lovely for him to have neighbours that enjoy his craft rather than ones that whine about the noise!
Loving Giampiero’s bread……I can almost smell it from here!! Happy birthday to him. Think when he decides to retire he should give cooking classes to all those who want to learn how to cook with the outdoor oven……he would be a smashing success and you could show everyone how to do amazing table settings……
Hope 2017 is a fabulous year to both you and Giampiero!! xo

Contessa, Bob Bob Ricard is a Resturant in London that has a “push for champagne” button in its booths. I have never been there but would love to go! My girlfriend made me a similar sign for our dining room wall that I adore! My Italian is from Pietra Cupa, can’t remember if it’s N/S? It’s a very small farm town, so small if fact that we had a customer print out a map to put in the store to tell people where my sweetheart is from. His Mother is from Miore (spell?) a beautiful town by the sea. Where is your Italian from?

Dearest Contessa, Balmy indeed! My dear son who grew up here in southern California near San Diego now lives in Montana. He now endures below freezing temps without a whimper. I am like you, when it gets to be below 50, I am cold! I bought a space heater at Habitat for Humanity ReStore for only $29 that looks like a mini fireplace. It was in perfect condition and still in the box with all parts still packed, remote, etc. When my grandkids were here for the Holidays, I put it on a little furniture dolly and moved it from room to room. We all had fun sitting by “the fire” . Now I’m enjoying it in my TV room as it is about 45 degrees. Yes, we have central heating – 3 furnaces and a fireplace in fact, but why heat the whole, huge house when you only need one room to be toasty?

Wishing you a wonderful New Year and très jalouse about your trip to the Chelsea Flower Show. That is on MY list as well.

    Smiles from Charlotte Des Fleurs

    Hi Elizabeth,
What a wonderful husband you have – imagine giving you a trip to the Chelsea Flower Show! Your comment about the cold weather invites mirth considering our recent -40 temperatures in Canada. The most popular thing to talk about here is the weather. Whole books could be written about it! Your 30 or 40 degree weather sounds balmy compared to our recent -40 degree weather. We hope for a Chinook, the warm westerly wind, that makes the temperature goes up quickly. I loved you heart-warming blog. THE Italian is great! Happy New Year.

What a truly fabulous post to read, it looks as if you had the perfect Christmas, and you look fantastic, as always, I might add. But the Chelsea Flower Show, I am envious immediately. I have only ever been once, years ago and I watch it avidly each evening in May on the TV, not the same, but the best I can get, so many ideas, so much to see and so much atmosphere. But most of all a very very happy and healthy 2017 to you. And do you think you will make it to France at the same time as London? A little visit perhaps??? Susan Xx

Well, you invited Canadians to laugh at your 30 or 40 degrees F weather. Or at least said we would laugh! The only way I could warm up today is by laughing at your temperature. As a rare treat, a friend took me for a drive in the countryside. It was a balmy -11C (+12F) but much colder with the wind chill. Yet it was much better than the -40C. (= -40F) some places had this past weekend. My friend knew that I always wanted to see a Snowy Owl so off we went today. Usually she has a car that’s very allergic for me but she got a new car and has not let the dogs in it yet. So it was the most wonderful Christmas present. It was supposed to be a sunny, if cold day, but the moment we got out into the countryside, the sky clouded over and it started to snow. The snow swirled across the dirt roads. I never knew there could be that many shades of grey. And then as we travelled south, the storm lifted and we had blue skies again. The heat was on in the car but the toes on my right foot mysteriously were freezing. Yet everything else was warm. I had my lovely up-to-the-knees-and-beyond Italian wool socks on. Finally, I caved in and asked for more heat. We had no coats on because of how warm we were but my toes were still cold! After all of that, I reached home and couldn’t believe we had seen no owls even though we went exactly to the same place as a friend who emailed he had seen 2 there. What is this? Is there a Snowy Owl curse on me? The joke on these birds is they migrate south to our area to escape the frigid temperatures in the Arctic only to find equally cold temperatures here. So I read your blog, dear Elizabeth, and laughed and laughed, warming up as I read. It worked partially. I have a pile of blankets I’m hiding under too. Happy New Year. P.S. Make sure you dress warmly! P.S.#2 Who is the handsome opera singer? P.S. #3 How wonderful you’re going to the Chelsea Garden Show! What a heart-warming gift from the Italian. And the bread (I wish I had his recipe!). or better yet a clone of THE Italian.

If the car broke down, we had emergency food, water, a fully charged cell phone, layered heavy clothes. I thought we should have cardboard (to put under tires for traction if stuck), a shovel, a blanket or two and a candle and matches but my friend thought it was too much. So we took food. (If it were my car, I would have an emergency kit. Once her dogs are in the car, I couldn’t go in her car due to allergies (now or never!). It was a great gift to be taken for a country drive! The roads were good.

You are a mind reader –– I made a borscht-like soup today! Now if only I had your husband’s bread! Sorry to duplicate replies but when I looked before the longer one had disappeared! It’s snowing tonight and the temperature goes down again! Don’t worry. I’ll be inside! Snow too heavy for me to shovel. Help is on its way. -11C is +12F. It’s not bad! -40 C = -40F. That is dangerously cold!
