SUMMER THINGS!

July 11, 2019 86 Comments

THIS SPRING ~ SUMMER have NOT been optimal as far as weather goes but as far as surprises and FEELING SO MUCH BETTER IT HAS BEEN A WIN ~ WIN SITUATION FOR ME!

I am beside MYSELF because I have NOT had an EPISODE in over A MONTH!

If you are NEW HERE I have not been feeling well for over THREE YEARS!

I do Not want to JINX it so lets just pass right over that BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NOW!

As soon as I have FACTS and MORE TIME with NO EPISODES I WILL REPORT BACK!

GARDEN GLORY COMMISSION PROJECT!

THIS CAME IN THE MAIL IN JUNE.

To MY PURE ENJOYMENT UNBEKNOWNST it was being painted FOR ME!

THE PHOTO WAS ON MY INSTAGRAM SCROLL WHICH TURNS OUT SHE COPIED AND ENHANCED!

I THINK SHE CAPTURED ME!

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

THIS WAS DONE BY MY OLD NEIGHBOR, NITA WHO MOVED AWAY TWO YEARS AGO WITH HER TWO LITTLE BOYS AND PHOTOGRAPHER HUSBAND!SOME OF YOU MAY RECALL THESE PHOTOS THAT DREW WRIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY DID OF YOUR CONTESSA AND HER ITALIAN! This drug really helped me! If you read reviews about this drug at http://sixated.com/buy-accutane-online/ , suffering from the same disease that tormented me a few years ago, I will advise you to go to a dermatologist and ask to prescribe this drug! The improvements did not appear immediately. There were about 2 exacerbations during treatment after about 2 months, but in general, everything went well. The side effects were only dry skin and lips. My problem is mid-severe acne.

CLASSIC BUT DEAR TO OUR HEARTS!

OPPOSITES ATTRACT THEY SAY………..NOT THAT WE ARE COMPLETE OPPOSITES BUT HEY YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN IF YOU CLICK UP TOP!

BACK TO MY PORTRAIT!

NITA’s BOYS are bigger and she has MORE TIME on her hands so if YOU know someone who wants a GARDEN PORTRAIT SEND A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE SUBJECT RELATED TO A “GARDEN THEME.”

(Could be a PET TOO!)

TO AWENITA at nita@awenita.com.

BASIL is coming ALONG!

WE make PESTO for the YEAR and FREEZE IT!

THIS IS THE ITALIANS DOMAIN!

SPEAKING of THE ITALIAN HE was a COUNT by taking me to pick out this PASTE RING for our 33 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!I had eyed this BEAUTY since last DECEMBER.I think I will make it a PINKY RING however, I do Not like taking away the Gold to do that!

DECISIONS!

GEORGIAN PASTE:

Georgian paste was hand-cut, just like gemstones, so you will find irregularities in facets and between stones. If all the stones on a piece look identical under magnification it is likely that you have a later piece. Eighteenth century paste will often be cut into unusual shapes; glass is much easier to cut than harder gemstones so gem cutters were able to get creative. Around 1800 paste became more uniformly round, but still hand-cut, so this can help you circa date a piece.

BACK TO BREAD WE GO!

SO, after I made the OATY SEED LOAF my BUDDY SANDRA sent me this recipe!

BLENDER BREAD!

AN EASY NO GRAIN BREAD MIXED UP IN YOUR BLENDER and put into THE OVEN TO BAKE!

AGAINSTALLGRAIN.COM

DANIELLE WALKER

INGREDIENTS:

*ghee or coconut oil for greasing pan

*8 eggs

*1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk

*4 teaspoons apple cider vinegar

*3 cups whole raw cashews, about 450g

*7 tablespoons coconut flour

*2 teaspoons baking soda

*1 teaspoon sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Place a Heatproof dish filled with 2 inches of water on bottom rack of the oven and preheat to the oven to 325 degrees.Lightly grease a 10 by 4 1/2 inch loaf pan with ghee or coconut oil.Line the bottom and sides of the pan with parchment paper so the ends hang over the sides.

2.Combine the eggs, almond milk, vinegar, cashews, baking soda, and salt in a high speed blender and process on low speed for 15 seconds.Scrape down the sides then process on high  for 30 seconds, or until very smooth.Add the coconut flour and blend again for 30 seconds. If the batter is too thick to blend, add up to 2 tablespoons water until it is moving easily through the blender.Transfer the batter to the prepared pan.

3.Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

4.Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 30 minutes, then gently remove the loaf using the parchment paper overhangs and allow to cool on a wire rack before serving or storing.Store the loaf tightly wrapped in parchment and cling wrap in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

WHAT CAN I SAY!

I  really am ENJOYING these two breads.

I feel I will NEVER have to BUY BREAD AGAIN for me as this can easily become a weekly CHORE!

That of which I will ENJOY!

One of MY HENS waiting PATIENTLY for OUR ARRIVAL!

I am seldom alone in the short walk to the chicken coop……..

Four legged BEASTIES are either in front of me or behind me!

All I have to say is “ANDIAMO” meaning WE GO IN ITALIAN and I have an entourage!

He spends his nights outside so I get the JOY of watching HIM sleep by DAY!

THE POSITIONS ARE ALL PHOTO WORTHY!

How many of YOU recall the Television show called I SPY from the 1960’s?

Well, I do and I was between the ages of 5 to 9 when it aired!

My Mother and FATHER and I would all go upstairs to the television room to watch it!

I especially remember my DAD loved it!

Well, come to find out the STAR was ROBERT CULP who was born in OAKLAND and grew up in BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.Not far from where I live now.

I somehow stumbled upon his wife on INSTAGRAM!

As is the case with beautiful photos I was scrolling through her morning walks, GARDENS and her PETS and occasionally a photo or two of her and her husband a few years ago!BOY,OH BOY did her HUSBAND look familiar to ME!It took me awhile to get up the nerve to write her in the private section called DM for Direct Message to ask if her husband had been a GAME SHOW HOST!I was JUST SURE Thats WHY HE LOOKED SO FAMILIAR TO ME!

She politely answered me and said ,” NO!”Than went on to explain he had starred in his own SHOW called I SPY!

I nearly fell out of my seat!

AS I remembered the SHOW and this is OLD HOLLYWOOD STUFF!

WE had a lovely back and fourth on this social media platform and I ended it by saying

I WOULD GO VISIT HIM AND TAKE SOME FLOWERS!

Which is exactly what I did.I had a small photo to go by as to his location and a side of a building!

WE found the building and the trees that were our starting point and I walked down one aisle and yelled,” NO NOT HERE” to my friend PAT and as I said that I turned around and there HE WAS!

You can see my shadow with the phone taking this PHOTO!

I was like a kid in a CANDY SHOP I was so EXCITED!

He was part of my PAST with MY MOTHER AND FATHER and I bet they had NO IDEA he was from the Bay Area!

IT was a HOT day and I lost a few of the flowers from MY GARDEN on the way here!

Do you have these SPECIAL MOMENTS from the PAST knock at your door?

I get such a THRILL from meeting people and connecting the DOTS!

Now of course I will need to go to Los Angeles and MEET THE MRS. CULP!

ONE LAST ANNOUNCEMENT…………then WE promise to let YOU GO!

I will be celebrating my BIRTHDAY DOWN SOUTH IN San Diego  on JULY 20,

If YOU can GRAB a FRIEND and come say HELLO and do a little shopping at MY FAVORITE BOUTIQUE.

THAT WOULD BE A DOUBLE THRILL FOR ME!

YOU may even get to meet THE ITALIAN!

THE SHOPKEEPERS ARE THE BEST!

VALERIE AND JIMMY FERRARI along with their DAUGHTER JAZMIN!

There are THREE STORES TO VIST ALL within walkinging distance of each other and one is CLOSING do to JIMMY’s RETIREMENT!

That would be the GIFT SHOP called

WITH LOVE.

1620 W.LEWIS STREET

San Diego, CALIFORNIA 92103

THERE WILL BE BARGIN’S TO BE HAD FOR SURE THERE!

CHATEAU BEL AGE is located at 1578 WEST LEWIS STREET San Diego, CALIFORNIA !

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

I’m in the same country but I’m still a bit too far away from California to attend. But I will be there in spirit. On the same day we have a party for my in-laws who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. I will be taking the photos so I hope I don’t mess it up. We have just returned from Indiana where we were visiting my husband’s cousin. I always love the photos of Mr Theodore. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Love the paintings of you.

    Hello Elizabeth!!!!!
Alone with your blog at last!!!!!
I think your summer is progressing nicely.
Giampy’s ring to you is just lovely………he has your taste nailed.
I’m so pleased Sandra and I have given you two recipes that not only are gluten free but wheat and dairy free. You did a great job on them. The best thing about buying all those ingredients is that you have them not on hand to whip up more loaves.
Finally, and most importantly is that your health has turned around.
You’re looking fabulously well…………..wishing you continuing good health Bella xx

Oh my goodness, so happy to hear you are feeling better!! I loved this post; it was so chatty, informative, catching up!! Your basil is gorgeous- you will have a bumper crop. You inspired me to do pesto today- 2 for the freezer, one for lunch. Umbria is way behind in the garden department- too much rain in April and May {and none over winter ?!!}. Zucchini coming on strong; loved the instagram with GP doing blossoms- adorable. First comment in awhile- inundated with family and friends, such fun.

You look like a movie star. Love that outfit in the green too. How funny you connected with Robert Culp’s wife? I am not surprised though. I am so glad you shared these two breads. They look delicious for breakfast especially. I wish I could go to your birthday bash. It looks so much fun. I wish you a beautiful birthday and will have you here next. LOVE those photos of Theodore. What a love. Hope all is well. xx Kim

Where do I begin? I adore the photos of you and the Italian! Both of you sparkle and it looks like you’re having so much fun! You mentioned the bread to me, but I’m not sure about the first one. Too many seeds like that have their way with me although the cashew bread and I will be great friends… all around my thighs I’m sure. Nita’s painting is a perfect size and her roses are works of art. The colors and something about her style remind me of Gaughan. Your own personal Gaughan!! Wish I could jet out to see you at Bel Age and celebrate your birthday, but it’s not in the cards for me this year. Have a fabulous birthday! xoxox, Brenda

How do you capture SO much in a single post… it seems more like a chapter book to me : ) A feast for the eyes and the brain… you are a REAL LIFE fairy godmother. Enchantment is always my reaction, and I’m sure that is a universal feeling. Loved every rose petal…

I have a quick story to tell re visiting a grave… a friend of my mother’s took her grands to visit their grandfather’s grave. She had planted flowers around the marker, and it was a hot summer day and she needed to bring water. Looking around, she could not find the right container, but then spied an empty Tangueray handled bottle in the garage, rinsed it out and filled it with water. You can guess the rest…she poured most of it on the flowers, but without thinking, took the last few sips from the bottle herself… she had not noticed a group of people nearby until the gasps and harsh words drifted her way : )

ADORE this bouillabaisse post… you must hear the applause, we all want a curtain call (or two..)
    XOXO

      Put in FREEZER!
One cup is good for two servings of four people……..so when you store the cup in the FRIDGE the second time TOP OFF with OLIVE oil so the pesto does not turn black!Cover with Saran Wrap!WIll KEEP ALONG, LONG TIME!

Gorgeous pictures of you AND GREAT NEWS on being EPISODE FREE! Speaking of Episodes….I use watch I SPY all the time. I loved the show! I remember Bill Cosby in one episode in which he had a very bad cold and put twisted kleenex in his nostrils….of which I copied and have done ever since with twisted tissues when I am stuffed up with a cold. I loved the I SPY t.v. series and I am glad Robert Culp missed all the drama that Bill Cosby became entangled in after his death. On another note, The sketches and painting of you are so incredibly fabulous and what a tribute to your amazing presence ….in your Enchanted Garden and then beamed through cyber world! I cannot wait to see the Celebration of your Birthday posts at @chateaubelage…coming soon to an iPad near me! The “paste” ring given to you by a beloved Count….a Count you can really count on to come through in the gift department every time….will accompany you on countless adventures in the future….which will bring you full circle when you look at it and remember the Count who gave it to you… can count on it! Elizabeth, I loved this post – so cheerful. Nita’s painting of you is lovely and it captures you, your property and your love of flowers. I am pleased to learn that you didn’t have an episode all month. Your anniversary gift is beautiful! I remember Robert Culp from I Spy. He was handsome then and he was still handsome when he played Debra’s dad on Everybody Loves Raymond. How fortuitous that you had an opportunity to visit his grave. Do you have Celiac’s Disease or did you just feel like giving up gluten ten years ago? The loaves look interesting, but nuts and seeds are difficult for me to digest, so I eat them in small quantities rarely. Fairy Godmother seems like an appropriate moniker for you! I will be in Truro on Cape Cod in Sept for a wedding, and I will think of you and our lunch at your son’s food truck a few summers ago.

I read it all the way through only to pause and go take a look at the wonderful photos of you and The Italian…that last one with your glamorous outfit, the French chair and the Fiat…so fun! And the sketch that someone sent from your trip to Paris with your sons…and a to do list on the back of it….so special. Oh how I wish I still lived in Dana Point…I would never miss your birthday in San Diego! What an entertaining post…and most importantly, you’re feeling better!!!!

LOVE this potpourri post! I copied the recipes even though I eat everything because I love crunchy, seedy bread. Thanks! Is the chartreuse outfit from the linen store you took me to? I forgot the name. It looks fabulous on you. So glad you are still episode free. That was so difficult. The photo of Winston’s head on the cat melted my heart. I forgot the cat’s name, too. Thank you for the two bread recipes. I am gluten-free and dairy-free, by choice (I keep the weight off without “white foods”), so these recipes are great. I tried a “cracker” recipe that was similar to your bread recipe recently that had coconut oil in it, did not like it that much and it never got crispy, like a cracker. Your recipes have primarily the same ingredients except the oats and NO oil. So…again, thank you!

You look ravishing, but then, even when you were ill you looked great. That chartreuse outfit is marvelous. I would look like an unmade bed in it, but you pull it off. That ballerina posture.
I have a recipe for savory muffins, but they do use whole-wheat flour. Is there a gluten-free substitute for that? They also have oatmeal. And, to keep them from being hard as rocks, they have grated vegetables (I switch it up–carrots, zucchini, beets, sometimes a mix). No sugar. Sometimes I add spices like cumin, sometimes I add cheese….
It is utterly charming and also not all that surprising that people around the world do paintings of you. You really should be a model, like Elon Musk’s mom.
Thanks yet again for making me smile.

Hello Contessa, Your new portrait is magnificent and very attractive. It looks like a stained glass window. I am glad your new bread includes maple syrup. If you read my post on maple sugar making, you will know that we in northern Ohio are no strangers to the process. My old high school has a sugar bush, worked by the students, and I get a bottle of the best maple syrup from them each year. I don’t know about California, but your yellow Verbascum, which we call mullein, grows wild everywhere in Ohio–I love the sight in the summer fields.

    VIA EMAIL:

These make my life so much easier!
    Love,
    Celeste

    In a cuisinart add:
    2 large very ripe bananas
    1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
    1/2 cup raw almonds
    1/2 cup raw walnuts
    1/2 cup ground flax seed
    2-3 dates
Blend until fairly smooth (some chunks are fine).
In a bowl put 2 cups rolled oats
    1/4 cup sunflower seeds
Other ingredients to taste. (See below)
Mix together well and then add the banana mixture.
Use a medium sized cookie scoop to place balls on parchment on a cookie sheet. Flatten with your hand.
Bake at 165 for about 4 hours, or use a dehydrator. Flip cookies half way through.
They are done when dry all the way through.
    Store in the refrigerator.
    Things to add:
For tropical, chopped dried mango, chopped dried pineapple, shredded coconut, chopped macadamia nuts.
For “oatmeal cookies” add vanilla, raisins, pecans, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
For “apple pie” add raisins, a few more chopped walnuts, chopped dried apple, vanilla, and apple pie spices.

    Ciao Contessa!

What a lovely roundup – your anniversary ring is simply gorgeous!! And looks great on your ring finger, so maybe don’t have it resized? Anyway, lots of pretty things do seem to come your way and your custom art is no exception! Lucky you!!!

Bread. Such a tricky issue for many people. Particularly if you don’t make your own. When we lived for a short while in your city back in the Olden Days, I lost about 8 kilos (which Mr P absorbed into his own good self!) as I could not find enough to eat that I liked – and I hasten to add that I’m no fussy eater – but it was particularly dire in the Bread Department. If only I had the sense to make my own – that 5-minute bread that is all over the interwebs is what I make now – I would have been in much better shape, hahaha!

So glad for you that your health is on the improve. You’re looking fantastic, by the way!! Oh, your nutty loaf is almost a perfect match for the porridge I made this morning (Winter and all in this neck of the woods). I jazzed up the oats with some Brain Food extras – I’m reading a book called Brain Food by Dr Lisa Mosconi about diet and brain deterioration and am Loving It like a woman possessed – so your nutty loaf is both good for your Body and your Brain, it would seem!!!

It sounds like you’re going to have a wonderful birthday, and I wish you a Happy Birthday for next weekend!! A Saturday, I notice, which is always nice as they only roll around every 7 years…

    Baci Bella, xx

Just an FYI for you,,,, Dr. Gundry’s plant paradox book is exceptional to read and gather more knowledge on feeling MUCH better and he explains the whys and how’s. You can follow Dr Gundry on IG (he’s a heart surgeon) Half my family ( me excluded ) is Celiac so we’re always learning and we’re all feeling great on the plant paradox program. Also here’s a very quick bread ,,,,, flaxseed bread, it can be made sweet or savory. Just add your favorite seasonings.
      2c flaxseed meal/1Tbsp baking powder/1tsp salt/1-2 Tbsp sugar ( I use erythritol)/seasonings. Mix together
Add 5 beaten eggs/1/2c water/1/3c oil (avacado or olive) to the dry mix. Combine well. Let set 2-3 minutes,,,, 10×15 rimmed cookie sheet lined with oiled parchment paper. Pour onto pan, spread it to within approx..2 inches of edge of pan. 350’ 24-28 min. Keeps well in refrigerator. Good protein too! Easy peasy!! Love and hugs xoxo
