TZIPORAH SALAMON

August 3, 2015 70 Comments

Her name is a MOUTHFUL………..her flair goes with HER name.Do you know this woman? If you adore FASHION and are from NEW YORK my bet is you DO!

“Tziporah can be spotted around town, always dressed to the nines. Her vast collection of vintage and ethnic clothing makes her a favorite amongst fashion bloggers and a popular face on the weekly style pages.Tziporah’s love of fashion has been with her since an early age,but it is with time and experience that she has perfected her signature look.”……by ARI SETH author of ADVANCED STYLE.

YOUR CONTESSA HERE  happens to FOLLOW her INSTAGRAM account and saw that she will be here in my city of SAN FRANCISCO!I have a dear friend who is having a 60~ something birthday and thought wouldn’t this be a FUN OUTING!

I immediately ordered tickets.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCIPESSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I googled HER to find out more and found out she went to U.C. BERKELEY in the late 60’s

SO,did my friend the PRINCIPESSA!

Wouldn’t this be a hoot if they remembered each other!Especially since I am giving TZIPORAH as a GIFT for the BIRTHDAY!

I also found out she rides about NEW YORK CITY On an ITALIAN bicycle………

She doesNOT like HER legs……..neither do I.

Nor her stomach……….D I T T O!!!

She collects ANTIQUE textiles…………..and wears them.

She ADORES HATS………..these too she DONS and wears quite beautifully!

Her approach to dressing is “like making a painting,” she says

Her Oriental textiles, some of which are more than 200 years old, are another highlight (“I keep them on a rack in my room because I like to feast my eyes on them”).Who doesNOT like to FEAST on beautiful fabric…….. who does this remind YOU of……………..ME.YOURS TRUELY!

“Addressing her class, she starts her seminar with the basics. “Know your body,” she instructs, throwing back her shoulders and taking a wide stance like a ballerina in second position.”I like the SOUND of this already!I also LIKE her ACCESSORIZES!

In an INTERVIEW she says…………

“So I figured out how to shop at vintage stores. The clothes are made better, and they’re much cheaper. ”

“Bill CUNNINGHAM discovered her outside BERGDORF GOODMAN,where she would go to visit her father who worked in alterations.CUNNINGHAM would often linger there to photograph the customers.”

“Between Tziporah’s multiple costume changes — about a dozen, overall — and lengthy stories, the class runs overtime, but none of her students seem to mind. As she begins to put her clothes away, a woman opens a bottle of wine and passes around tiny cups for a toast. “The point of this class isn’t to get people to dress like me,” Tziporah concludes. “What I want is for you to dress like you. I want you to make your own individual statement. I just show you what’s possible.”

I will be there to meet and WELCOME TZIPORAH to the WEST COAST I hope perhaps if you live close by you can attend also!I would LOVE to meet you too!

I have seen many photos of this woman previously. She is certainly right when she says, “know your body” for that is always the first step when wanting to play with fashion. She must have great fun when putting herself together. All I can say is that I wish I had the contents of her closet. Thanks for the great post.

    Cheers.

Oh Elizabeth darling, you my dear are THE “Tziporah” of Northern Ca. I am most certain you are making that same blod statement in your fashion wares all about town, as well as your events you attend…. Your savvy style when capturing the attention to your booth at a flea market filled with your brocante, I am SURE shoppers take notice of OUR amazingly stylish CONTESSA, you are spotted about town with Whispers of There she is, isn’t she so amazingly bold, daring, brave, and beautiful.

I don’t quite like my legs itheir, nor my stomach, or my height of 5″4 wish I were statuest as you! And then I too could boldly wear it as you do so well.
I could see you with an Italian bike wrapped of wood, and a sweet garden shopping basket as you do about town!
This was a wonderful post….That last picture of Tziporah reminds me of the late 70’s to early 80’s I think I came close to this style with a side by side photo yup! We would have been twins. 🙂

    Soon darling friend.

I would love to attend as I still seem to need some help finding my personal style. I blame convent school for that. We had to wear these hideous uniforms. I can’t even bear to think about them. Anyway, sounds like you will have a lot of fun. How funny. I don’t like my legs or my stomach either. Seems I keep finding we have some things in common. I am finally over the jet-lag and feeling almost human again – except for the intolerable heat. I still need to catch up on your birthday post. Hope to be posting something on my blog soon.

When I lived in NYC I had a nodding acquaintance with Tziporah but I don’t remember how! But I remember the last time that I ran into her outside of BG and she just looked so incredibly beautiful. She always did. I think it is worth mentioning that she was a major style icon in NYC far, far, far before Ari Seth Cohen began photographing her. Her influence was and is enormous for many of us…
