So, I THOUGHT ABOUT IT…turns out he has accomplished quite a lot in four years. Facts below.
He was nominated for a Nobel Peace Pize
Tax reform…the biggest tax reductiion and reform in 3 decades
Space force….he established the 6th branch of the US armed forces
First Step Act – prision reform and helped reduce mass incarcertions
Defeating ISIS’s caliphate and killing Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
Highest medium household income ever
Lowest unemployment ever
Obamacare individual mandate penalty GONE
Protecting Americans from terrorists with the Travel Ban, upheld by Supreme Court.

The list could go on and on. Saying he has done nothing in fours years is a flat out untrue blanket statement. I know and understand you don’t like him as a person and if that is how you choose to cast your political vote, then your political voice was not heard….just your moral voice was. I still love and adore your blog.

We need a change in the White House because the current president has not upheld the dignity of the office. Sure no one is perfect but Trump hasn’t cleaned the swamp. He has divided the country and has not been a president for all the people.

When will people stop and realize that this election is NOT a popularity contest. Neither man man is free from sin! We have to vote for who’s political beliefs our own align with. I personally do not care if Trump has said many off color remarks, or may have been unfairthful or a womanizer, like many of our past presidents have been. I personally dont care about Biden’s son, or his obvious demenrtia. WE all have to vote for the political beliefs of each candidate and NOT their personality or the direction of their moral compass…..Please start a real political dialogue about what each candidate can or cannot do for this great country and leave personal opinions about their character out of the voting decision!!!

I’m a little late at commenting here. I was cracking up at those photos!! I cannot stand Trump never have never will. On top of his mishandling of the coronavirus he is just disgrace and a despicable person. He doesn’t care about this country or his supporters. Only HIMSELF. At least Biden has good character, didn’t cheat on his wives and doesn’t act like a 5 year old. It amazes me how many people are willing to just look the other the way, including some of my friends and family members.

Hello Dear Contessa! Just getting caught up with your blog and hoping to speak to you soon. I’ll email you for best times for a chat! I’ve been away with my husband (a last hurrah before another lockdown here, our cases here are rising so fast, and we thought we were doing so well UGH), and now this week we have all of our children at home, they’re having a reprieve from Covid centre aka Toronto! I am very much looking forward to the day when the election is over, it pains me so much to see the US in such a state of discord. As a Canadian I don’t feel I can comment, and indeed I know far more about what is going on politically here (and we certainly have our own problems). My American father is so upset about the state of things, I spoke with him last night and he is beside himself. Such a stressful year and such a stressful time for all Americans.

I can’t wait to vote in the upcoming election – finally something I can do to try to rid America of the current menace to our country, health, democracy, women’s/people’s rights, decency, truth, law and order, freedom of the press, relationships with our Allies, blah, blah, blah. Melania’s friend, who just published a book about FLOTUS, states that they are grooming Ivanka to run for President in the future – help us Lord & Taylor! Yes, Melania’s profane rant about Christmas etc. was very revealing. The entire TRump family is an embarrassment to our country IMO.

  I come from Canada, my husband from England, both ‘socialist’ countries and I’m afraid Lee is confusing socialism with communism. On WHAT planet does it make sense that health care is tied to your job and when the job goes away, so does your health care?? Mr. Trump had the first two years of his presidency, with Republicans in control of both houses of Congress, to fulfill his promise of better & cheaper health care. Didn’t happened. He promised Mexico would pay for the wall. Didn’t happen. He was going to bring back coal. Didn’t happen. And let’s discuss his personal character. I thought he was toast when he called Mexicans murderers and rapists. I thought he was toast when he said John McCain wasn’t a hero. I thought he was toast when he said he could grab women by the genitals. I thought he was toast when he mocked a disabled reporter. I thought he was toast when he said he knew more than the generals. I thought he was toast when he told us he’d begun a love affair with Kim Jong Un. The only way the US leads the world is in coronavirus deaths because of Trump’s denials of the severity of the situation. With friends and family still in Canada & England, two of our closet allies, I can tell you unequivocally that the world is indeed laughing at us and my embarrassment couldn’t be greater. The only red-faced ranting is coming from Trump’s mouth.

It is called freedom of speech, which is a protected right only in a democracy. This is at the very heart of this election, the destruction or preservation of our democracy. It is a time to speak up and to vote– because our American democratic way of life depends upon who wins this election. It is not about party, it is about country. It is about the difference between a normal, sane person and someone with a dangerous and untreatable personality disorder that has a medical diagnosis, malignant narcissism. The Lincoln Project is the finest example of carrying this flag–founded by lifelong Republicans who understood the existential threat posed by one man. And they have waged a battle against their own party to preserve, protect and defend this country from the tragic fate that would be sealed by another four years. One of their founders is a man of great intellect and insight, George Conway, a Republican who does not recognize his own party anymore. His twitter account has been a light in the darkness for many. A brilliant attorney, whose commentary is unfailingly incisive, honest, searing, yet also reflective of his wit and sense of humor. And he loves dogs (especially Corgi’s–it could be argued the litmus test for this office should be this–a love of dogs). In a twist of profound irony, his wife was part of the current administration until recently, which makes one respect his commitment to this effort even more.
In 2016 Lindsay Graham tweeted this, ‘If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed…and we will deserve it.’ This time, he was speaking the truth.
Now is the time to speak… in words and by voting.

As a Canadian I fear for American citizens if TRUMP gets re elected. We get a LOT of US news here – tv (I watch some of the US stations besides Canadian and the BBC) – radio – newspaper and no it is not “fake news” and even our newscasters here who broadcast US news are shocked with this president. Our political leaders are also shocked re some of his comments and have to be very careful in their comments regarding him to maintain positive diplomatic relations.

Dearest Contessa – How I miss you on Instagram. The platform is changing. All video all the time. This new Reels things is too much. Anyhoo … I intend to vote today. Having read the comments, I don’t understand how some interpret your comments as disagreements about political issues. We can have open and honest conversation on policy. It’s not about policy, it’s about bullying behavior, disregard for our constitution and for norms that all presidents up to this point (the good and the bad) for the most part adhered to, not to mention the absolute disregard for anyone who did not vote for him. The way he disrespects the military, disrespect his own aides (doing his bidding), disrespects elected members of the Congress as well as our mayors and governors. The way he stirs up hatred and encourages white supremacy. The way he encourages white people with guns to brandish them openly, while anyone of color would be shot dead in the same circumstance. This is not about politics or differing views on policy. It is about standards, decency, and respect. As for other presidents, as one of your readers – or former readers – mentioned above. No president is perfect. No person is perfect. Clinton’s irresponsible personal behavior while in office was astounding, but in comparison to what we witness with the current president, it seems quaint. And, by the way, if one disapproved of Clinton’s personal behavior … how can they defend Trump’s? How can anyone of Christian faith vote for someone who exhibits the behaviors of Trump … or excuse them? Since when is denigrating others a tenant of Christian faith? I’m sad, I’m scared and I fear we are witnessing the end of our democratic republic. We have a Senator from Utah implying that democracy is no longer necessary. I guess democracy is passe when old white men are no longer the majority. And they’re not going down without bringing out entire country down with them. Talk about scorched earth policy.

    Dear Cara, apparently you are unaware of our country’s war history … getting in and getting out. It’s been messy. War is messy. Donald Trump campaigned on ending the war in Afghanistan and bringing all our troops home. American First. His administration negotiated with theTaliban, excluding the Afghan government, and agreed to a full withdrawal of troops by May of this year. His administration neglected to create a plan for the withdrawal and left it to the new administration to work out in a very short period to time. President Trump famously stated that the agreement was negotiated in such a way it would prevent the next administration from getting out of it. The reality is that the American people overwhelming wanted our troops out of Afghanistan and voted for the candidate who promised to do so from Obama to Trump to Biden. Biden did it after extending the timeframe in order to allow American’s to return home. Did it go smoothly and without casualty. No it did not. Over the course of 40 years of voting, I have cast my presidential vote for Democrat and Republican candidates. I’ve won some and I’ve lost some. I can’t think of a president who I have ever agreed with or disagreed with 100% of the time. Nor can I think of one who did not upset or disappointment me at one time or another. But no matter what, I always respected the office of the presidency and whoever held that office. And until President Trump, I cannot think of a president who I did not feel did their best to do what was right for the country whether I agreed or not. This blind devotion to one man, who changed party affiliation and most of his past political positions, to run for office is beyond comprehension and it appears we’re heading to an authoritarian form of government at alarming speed. And, by the way, former President Trump’s disparaging remarks about members of the military, in general and specific individuals, is well documented and recorded. And continues to this day.

Trump is an ass and a bully. I hate what he’s said about women and his environmental policies are appalling and he definitely hasn’t drained the swamp, just substituted new creatures. I do like the way he’s rightfully criticized China for the Wuhan virus and has gone after the WHO (in China’s pocket). I also agree with his stopping the teaching of racist, revisionist history. A people who are told repeatedly that their country is evil will never flourish.

The Democrats’ current support for curtailing freedom of speech, promoting racism, and not stopping, let alone condemning, violence, looters ,and thugs is of great concern to me. Biden is showing signs of dementia and I don’t want Kamala Harris, a woman who slept her way to the top and, after condemning Biden for his sexual harassment of Tara Reade (and seven other women who’ve come forward), turns around and runs with him, to be president. After going after Kavanaugh , the hypocrisy in sacrificing those 8 women on the decrepit altar of Biden is unforgivable. There is no way I’d ever vote for Biden.

The choices are the worst ever and I find that extremely depressing and demoralizing.

        I never raised the issue of Willie Brown’s marriage/ The adulterous relationship was not my point.
        You admit above it’s true she slept with an influential much older man who jump started her career. So what if her run for office was after that? Do you honestly believe she didn’t capitalize on the experience and exposure she got from the posts her lover appointed her to?         Cara you are trying to pick out a personal thing like dating an older influential man to discredit a life ion public service. Kamala was the first woman ever elected to DA of San Francisco, and also the first Black woman to become Attorney General of California. She led the family and children division where she went after abusers and advocated for families and women for many years. She did a lot of good work. She has also gone after banks during the mortgage crisis in California -you need to look at her long record of good works. Most importantly, in the Senate she has been an excellent member of the Intelligence Committee and in 4 short years has sponsored or co-sponsored over 1300 bills. She has worked her butt off doing good and I resent women putting other women down this way. Get your facts straight. Maybe you don’t like her personally for some reason, but don’t try and trash her record. This woman is probably one of the most qualified people to ever be on a presidential ticket. This country will be lucky to have her in high office.
        
        If you want to talk about people sleeping around and morals, LETS GO THERE. Trump who has had 26 women each give independent stories of sexual assault- all corroborated by multiple people. Biden’s accuser Tara Reid was discredited already as no one can corroborate her story except a family member and her inconsistencies and work timeline and co workers do not support her story. Then other women talked about touching by Biden like a shoulder rub, which he has acknowledged is not a great idea. He is not perfect, but Biden has not committed sexual assault. There is a huge difference there.

You question the morality of the current President. What are your opinions of your dear former President Clinton, who had SEX WITH AN AIDE in the White House, and then LIED TO CONGRESS about it? I unsubscribed to your blog yesterday after reading it as well as the comments. I did not intend to leave a comment of my own as I knew that I would be bombarded with hateful and derisive replies because I do not have the same political opinions as the majority of your readers. But since one or two other people with opposing opinions were brave enough to comment, I will also.

Why is it that the party of “inclusion” is always so quick to vilify anyone who disagrees with them? And please do not tell me it is a “moral” issue & not a political one. If that is your position then it shuts down all discussion – you are always right & anyone else is always wrong. Neither party is (now or in the past) without scandal, immoral behavior and worse.

I have close friends who have different political views – we agree to disagree. There will always be differences of opinions but the gleeful frenzy of vile, hateful, nasty language expressed here directed toward the current administration & anyone who agrees with their policies is beyond sad.

The New Yorker and others continue to repeat the lie that Trump said drink bleach. How can one take seriously these out and out lies. I am not a fan of Trump at all, but truth is truth. TheLleft is vicious. An example: no one in my neighborhood defaces or steals Biden signs on people’s private property, but they do Trump signs.

    A “Gutless Wonder” is so apt a name. You brought up a valid topic, Contessa, education. I do hope that our future government prioritizes the opportunity for all Americans to receive a higher education. It has been my personal experience that those who cannot/will not discuss current events are typically either lacking an education, are single issue voters, and/or men and women from a generation accustomed to “having men in charge.” I was appalled to hear from someone I know that felt Pence was masculine and presidential. Then it hit me, she must be used to men behaving badly (toxic masculinity) and think that is a normal, even desirable trait. Thank you for the discussion. Stay safe! Christy

  Boldence, If you’re still reading this blog despite the fact that you unsubscribed from it, you’re making this about democrats and republicans and in doing so, following Trump’s lead, but it isn’t about the political sides — it’s about the person Trump has displayed himself as to be to the world! La Contessa wrote that she was raised republican (so was I) yet you continue to bring up democrats and Clinton and political party differences in trying to defend Trump’s behaviour. Trump publicly insults people, he makes people think there is something wrong with being ‘liberal’, he lies every day, he wants to bring back dangerous, archaic resources instead of utilising progressive energy alternatives, and he has even allowed bears in hibernation to be hunted and killed!! That says a lot about his priorities which don’t match with mine. La Contessa, like the majority of people around the world, are tired of his behaviour and lies and bullying, and would like someone else to be the president of the united states.
