Well done you on having the courage to openly express your opinions on your blog . Judging by the vast majority of comments you are not alone in your thinking, no surprise there . I feel the world is hoping for a fair less divisive president that is concerned for all not just a priviledged few.
On another note the story of the chicken cage was delightful as are the images.

Hi Elizabeth,
Well, this has been an interesting read! I am still amazed when I hear someone defend the current administration. I guess if you believe in supporting racial inequity and segregation, sexism, health care only for those with lots of money, tearing immigrant families apart and jailing them, lying constantly, cheating, boasting about your self-perceived “greatness” ETC ETC (you get the idea I could go on but I won’t) that would explain why you would want to keep Trump in office.
As for me, I’m voting for fairness, decency, grace under pressure, kindness to fellow humans, belief in science, environmental responsibility, love and respect for our country, life long service to our country, equality for all. That includes and is not limited to IMMIGRANTS, BIPOC, LBGTQ+, WOMEN and yes even Trump supporters. You won’t lose anything and in fact our country has so much to gain by doing the right thing.
I love the chickens, I think you are fabulous. I miss you on Instagram. Need a phone call. Hope you are well. RANT ON DEAR CONTESSA!!

As a country we deserve better, ONLY if we vote him out of office. This is not a time to “just be happy”. Too much is at stake.   Socialism is not communism. Educate yourself. My dil at 40 with a 2 year old just had a successful double lung transplant. 3 weeks to find a donor. Two months in hospital. Total cost $0.00!

  Nancy, I assume by ‘Communism’ you actually mean socialism, a word used by extremist to paint anyone who is not Trump or a Trumper including those who believe in helping and continuing the good work and safety net programs our country has in place to help all American become upwardly mobile and thus all of us thrive. Most Americans thrive thanks to socialism in some form, be it public school, or a safe communities, fair housing and social security at retirement, and Medicare.

  You are afraid Biden is going to make things more fair in this nation? Did 8 years with him helping with the Obama administration make us communist? No they turned the worst economy into an amazing success, and we had the highest rate of employment ever. Trump inherited that economy. That was not communist in any way, but a thriving nation. Before you throw labels on anyone, do some research.
  
  Do you thrive under Trump? Has he made this country better? Trump promised the ‘best healthcare you’ll ever have,’ Four years later we have NO plan, by him or his Republican colleagues and they held congress for two years of his administration so you cannot say Democrats blocked it. In fact they came up with nothing. What we did get is 200,000 of us dead, no plan except their case coming before the supreme court in November to remove what little is left of the Affordable Care Act. That plan may have been disparaged and not perfect, but it’s a lifeline for so many, who would not otherwise have any healthcare. So Nancy if you think healthcare for those who need it, is Communism or Socialism then I am for it. Another perspective for you:

Dearest Elizabeth, you mayt be missing IG but I sure miss your daily photos as they gave us a glimpse into your life. I have disliked Donald Trump ever since we lived in the US for a year and he had that awful reality show. Even just looking at him hurts my eyes. He is an unkind bully.

Hello Contessa, I just mailed in my ballot today. It cost US$12.50 to send it special delivery, so it had better count! Here’s hoping we both get what we want!

I was definitely under your remote influence today. I went out to do some practical errands, and ended up buying an expensive and heavy rock, which I had to carry all the way back to my apartment. And I’ve been trying to cut back on such purchases, too. Since it was your fault that I bought it, I am going to send you a bill for half of it.

As a third grade teacher, I have to take exception. He does not have the vocabulary of a third grader. If he were in my English/Language Arts class, he would be on an intervention plan to reach third grade standards. I also teach critical thinking skills. According to my rubric he would not pass that either. I’m worried about my students not having a good role model of intelligence, kindness or civility. I’m even more worried about his followers.

Your rant is fabulous!!! My husband and I got our ballots yesterday, filled them in, and promptly took them to the ballot drop box at our local library. Now I just have a few more Postcards to Voters to write, and I can know I’ve done my part. Along with donating regularly to important campaigns, I try to do what I can to make a difference. Flipping the Senate is also important, so please donate what you can to those campaigns.

Well, another blog talking politics! That is certainly not what I want to read about on your blog! Whether I agree with you or not, I’m sick of reading and hearing about “the election”! I sometimes feel attacked when I agree with the person that is speaking! This has always been such a happy place. I hate that it isn’t anymore.

Contessa, I salute you and your bravery today. There was a time not too long ago that we could all speak freely; most people were polite and civil then. Many people are hesitant to do this now, for fear of unleashing the wrath of someone else who might disagree. I am proud of you for speaking out; I have been hesitant to do so over the last few years due to all of the unbelievable, rabid, and crazy support for the Orange Messiah. How can any man who has a wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, granddaughter, or grandmother support him? How can any veteran, gay, black, Latino, Jewish, handicapped, poor, immigrant, parent, tax payer, female, or current member of the military support him? In my lifetime, I have never seen our nation so divided; I cannot recall a time when people were ever this openly hateful. I credit him with bringing out the very worst in people, and that is not a distinction of which any decent person should be proud. Although a proud Democrat myself, I can still appreciate the values the Republicans used to have. What their party has become is the sad result of having supported this tyrannical, juvenile, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, antisemitic, racist, misogynistic, lying, egotistical, draft-dodging, tax-evading, megalomaniacal bully. We should vote as if our lives depend on it – because they do.

  YES MY SHOP of 12 years was called HEN HOUSE!IT was a MARVELOUS ESCAPE from the work at HOME but the building is from the 1880’s and the ITALIAN had fears of it FALLING OVER………YOU know those ITALIANS do NOT use wood to build structures!THEY LAUGH AT US OVER HERE!Only STONE and CEMENT for the Roman EMPIRE!!!!!

I so agree with you. I pray everyday for our country. I love snail mail and sent postcards from our recent visit to
Zion National Park…beautiful place and beautiful trip. Yesterday hubby and I got our ballots filled out and deposited in the drop box at our local library
(which is still closed except for online requests, and drive by pick up). Take care.

I’m 75. I have already voted. absentee ballot HAND DELIVERED to my county election board.
I live in one of the reddest states in the union. but at least in my heart I know that I voted!
surely this nation will see the light … that we MUST remove this man who has no concept of leadership.
not to mention decency and family value. his world is about making the ‘deal’ and making money. at our expense.

I would never talk about people the way you did and others who have responded with such harsh and ugly words. Calling someone a “poor pathetic thing” is beyond inappropriate. I do happen to be a Trump supporter and the majority of signs in my area are the same. Different areas of this country seem to have different feelings on politics, but that’s ok. You have a right to your opinion as do I. And for the record, I would never vote for a leader who thinks the murder of unborn children is ok.

Bravo for this rant. You go girl!
I voted two weeks ago. I’ve been volunteering for a local-level campaign, making calls. Most of the clown’s supporters just hang up but a few want to talk. They are in a Fox bubble of misinformation. And there’s a lot of hatred–toward anybody who isn’t a straight white Christian male. Interestingly, the older people want to talk, to tell me about how they already voted absentee, some of them voting Democratic for the first time. And a few–very few–undecideds. They say they don’t follow politics. I tell them there’s the politics of the horse race–it’s like sports and it’s fine to tune it out–but the rest of politics is about figuring out how we are all going to live together. The rules and policies affect our lives–school, family, health, work. It’s important stuff and needs to be paid attention to.

Elizabeth, Thank you. I appreciate this post and everything you have said here. First, I cannot believe about Instagram. It is ridiculous they don’t care about your account!!! Well, one thing is for sure you’ll have a lot more time to do quality things like books. The time on Instagram is such a life suck.. As far as politics, I worry because Trump got ill, people are going to get distracted and forget the evils of this man. He started back in 2011 telling lies about Obama and his birth certificate and he doubled down on them. He was so envious of Obama, and resented every day the man ever golfed and yet came in and golfed 3xs more in half the time. The man isn’t a normal human, but a psychopath who comes up with lies to fill his narrative of the day, Tweets it out, and the continues the lies.. and other take it up. He tells so many lies, and falsehoods, people have stopped calling him out on it. This year his lies, which he admitted fully, have contributed to death of more than 200,000 of us. He has to go. I heard more people have requested Democratic ballots than ever before and that gives me hope. When I drive through my small town, I see Biden sign after Biden sign. I love your description of the parties. I am proud to be a Democrat. Hoping this nightmare is over soon.. Thank you for being brave and speaking out. To be quiet now, isn’t helping. We are in serious trouble as a nation and it’s going to take all of us speaking out and voting to end it. We need a landslide. xo

I am one of your silent blog readers. I am very sorry that your Instagram account was hacked and that you were unable to get assistance from Instagram to retrieve it.
I live in Queensland, Australia and our quiet life has not been as affected by CV-19 as many other Australians. We (my husband and I) have continued gardening, cooking and reading as we were prior to March 2020. We consider ourselves extremely lucky.
I really enjoyed reading your blog posts, they are like an interesting conversation with a close friend. I look forward to them appearing on your site. I am of a similar age (60 in Feb 2021) and I relate to your descriptions of your life.
We are coming into summer here. I am dreading the heat and the increased risk of fire. We have had a dry winter and spring. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has stated that we are coming into a “La Nina” cycle and so will have a wet summer. I hope they are correct in their prediction. We have lost one tall 35 year old Blueberry Ash tree and we are working hard with water and mulch to save our others.

I am hoping that California gets lots of soaking rain soon and the fires are doused.

Thank you for the effort you put into your blog. I appreciate it.

Until I went to 6th grade, I ived on a chicken ranch (eggs) and have always had a special place in my heart for birds and feathers. I love everything about sonomachicks. Her feathered friends sure have a wonderful life. Thanks for introducing her to us….I will get some cards. I do send snail mail, even now.
I hope you are feeling a lifting of spirit by eliminating IG from your life. I miss your posts, but I appreciate how full and rich and complex your life is- use this opportunity to make yourself well and happy. 🙂

  I’m a political junkie so I unfortunately know what our “Outbreak Monkey POTUS” is all about. I am so weary of the whole thing. Thank God, I have never been a Republican, their “platform” has never appealed to me, ever.

    I always have picked WHO I think will do the BEST JOB from that final debate!
    HE has created a SWAMP of COVID in the USA………….and A LOT of HATRED.
    I DO NOT LIKE HIM ONE LITTLE BIT and those white eyelids……that was just EXPLAINED TO ME!I thought it was make up!!!ITs the GOGGLES mark from the SPRAY TAN!!!!!!

  Trump is such a divisive man, who has no real interest in the role of President, or politics. It is not in anyone’s interests for him to be re-elected & I sincerely hope he isn’t. Not that I uphold my government in high esteem either!

  But this is my first year crossing over. Not happy with my choices, but a girl has to do what she has to do.
  
  “Dig deep people and vote for a man who has kind morals and family values”. Beautifully written.
  
  My last word is when I see people loving this President, all I can say is what does that say about their character and values. Let’s bring back our democracy to the country we love. Peace!
