I NEED YOUR HELP!

March 13, 2017 242 Comments

SPRING TIME is CREEPING UPON US.

RIGHT SIDE

LEFT SIDE.

See my WILD PLUM trees a BLOOMING?

NOW FOR YOUR INPUT!

I have not been feeling SO good.

For a long time now………..since last MAY!

I am tired ALL THE TIME.

I found out last MAY my HEART VALVE is leaking once AGAIN!

I had that repaired 6 years ago.

IT FAILED.

But NOT enough to under go the HEART SURGERY AGAIN!

GOOD THING?

I suppose cause that wasNOT something I want to experience AGAIN!

MY problems now are EPISODES as I call them where I lose my SIGHT and FEEL like I will PASS OUT!

NOT FUN EITHER.

These have been going on now since before NOVEMBER of last year.

In NOVEMBER I started to write the EPISODES DOWN in a cute little polka dot notebook.

The EPISODES last between a minute to TWO and I have NEVER fainted.

A couple of weeks ago I had an EPISODE in my BANK.

It lasted 20 minutes.

911 was called.

From this I have seen a NEUROLOGIST.

Who thinks it is CARDIO.

I have spoken to a family friend who is a professor of NEUROLOGY

Who also thinks it is CARDIO.

I have spoken to a SURGEON who is a relative

Who thinks it is CARDIO.

Now, I have seen my MD TWICE ABOUT THIS before the 911 call.

I also have been enduring headaches EACH AND EVERY DAY for over a MONTH.

I have low BLOOD PRESSURE in general.

This last month it has BEEN HIGH!

DO WE SEE ANY RED FLAGS HERE?

SO, lets review.

THESE TESTS have been done an MRI and a  CAT SCAN; will have an EEG tomorrow!

Seen a CARDIOLOGIST from HELL.

Mine was not available.

But she does own a chicken with a hand knitted sweater! The things I can pull out of people!

I had HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE in her office.Especially after the ASSISTANT told me my CARDIOLOGIST has moved on.

I adored my DOCTOR as he has been with me from the GET GO and had dirty white sneakers on during my first procedure with him.

I believe that was an ANGIOGRAM.

I remember telling him as I was lying on THE TABLE your shoes are dirty!

He also wanted to do the PADDLES on me as the A-FIB had come back after the surgery and I said NOT TOMORROW It is my OLDEST SON’s BIRTHDAY and I have to cook!He allowed me to leave and come back a day later for the PADDLE SHOCK in the hospital.

YOU KNOW THOSE PADDLES THAT WE SEE ON TV where they bring YOU BACK TO LIFE!!!!!!?

YES!

BEEN THERE DONE THAT to correct an IRREGULAR HEART BEAT.

Back to my little book.

NO one has asked to see my little book of EPISODES from MD to SPECIALIST.

I have kept a log since NOVEMBER 8,th 2016 all episodes and feelings that were not NORMAL.

THE EPISODES happen on AVERAGE ….. every 10 days.

There have been about SEVEN really terrifying EPISODES.

What was I doing?

1.DRIVING

2.Sitting at my computer.

3.Having lunch in the city.

4.Talking to a gentleman at a party.(SO STANDING UP )

5.Sitting on the toilet pushing for number TWO.

6.Pruning my roses.

7.Sitting at my bank making a deposit.

FIVE of these I was sitting down.NOT Out of breath just SITTING!

SO,

WHAT IS MY PROBLEM?

TRUMP made it to the WHITE HOUSE without paying taxes for years.

WE PUT PEOPLE ON THE MOON.

WE HAVE CARS THAT WILL DRIVE FOR US SOON.

BUT NOBODY can FIGURE out or has the DESIRE to figure out what is happening with little old me!

I have heard from THE PROFESSIONALS

 “TAKE CARE”

“I HOPE YOU MAKE YOUR TRIP IN MAY”

“THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU”

YOU MIGHT SAY I AM A BIT FRUSTRATED.

ANGRY could be another ADJECTIVE.

The CARDIOLOGIST has put me on BLOOD PRESSURE medicine HER WORDS not mine

“TO CALM ME!”

MAYBE I am suffering from HIGH Blood PRESSURE and this is the RESULT?

They have also started me on MIGRAINE Meds……

for the headaches

which I took a pill yesterday and it did NOTHING.

Mind YOU I can function with the headaches.

Headache starts at the back of the neck then works it’s way to my temples.

I know YOU are a SMART GROUP of PEOPLE.

SO, Iam asking for YOUR INPUT.

I need to know WHERE TO GO NEXT.

AS you all know I have a TRIP LOOMING in MAY ;I must be IN TIP TOP SHAPE!

I have PEOPLE TO MEET and places to WALK.

NO TIME for FAINTING SPELLS

AND

MY GOD I NEED TO SEE THE LAND OF THE QUEEN!

JUST UP from a NAP the both of us.

I sleep between 8 to 10 hours a night and still need to NAP!

If his TUFFET was big enough for the TWO of US I would be hugging him as we nap………..

He loves to be touched and to have his Tummy Rubbed.

He brings JOY.

MOUNDS of JOY to MY LIFE!

DO YOU HAVE JOY?

I have decided THAT is my NEW WORD for 2017.

OH,JOY!

THAT use to be my message on my cell phone!

Time to bring it BACK!

PS.I decided to ask my VET just to see if she had any advise.

DO you know she has the same thing happening to HER!

Except she FAINTS.

She has even been to the MAYO CLINIC in SCOTTSDALE.

THIS IS A  MYSTERY which needs to be SOLVED.

ANY input I would GREATLY APPRECIATE.

The medical profession is FAILING ME at the moment and I just had ANOTHER EPISODE before POSTING this BLOG POST!

TOO YOUNG FOR THIS

NEVER MIND MY DRIVING IS LIMITED as I have NO WARNING to when another EPISODE will APPEAR!

XOXO

Love the hats. Particularly the first one. You wear hats better than anyone I know. Well, you already have my 2-cents on the subject at hand, and it’s something to think about after you’ve exhausted – or in conjunction with – the traditional medical avenues. Many wonderful suggestions in the comments above. I wish you well as you doggedly pursue an answer to WHAT is going on . . . I’m confident, with your fan club behind you, you WILL get answers. AND, prior to your trip the the land of The Queen. As my dad learned from his timing living in a Commonwealth nation, they don’t slurp their soup at Buck House. xo

I wish I had wish, helpful advice to help. I hope that someone comes forward with something, anything that helps you get good health back soon. I find that I even before I turned 60 that physicians just want to write me off. I was shocked & insulted the first time I experienced such treatment. I cried in the elevator to my car.

Sending heaps of prayers for a positive end to what you’re going through Elizabeth.

I take the New York Times on Sunday and quite often they have a Diagnosis article in the magazine section. It’s my favorite part. You would do a search on “Diagnosis-The New York Times Magazine”.
Recently there was one that mentioned diagnostic-support software. It was that software that made the diagnosis in that particular case.
Just now I searched again and saw a related article titled “For Second Opinions, Consult A Computer ?” dated December 3, 2012.
    Just an idea.

I too have noticed the aging process in the past few weeks and thought your hair was greyer. Now we all get grey hair sometimes but a folate deficiency causes greying hair, too. Keep searching, beloved Contessa. You will get your answers.

Oh my goodness, I hate that you have this problem, Our hearts are just so important!! I read in one of the comments that someone suggested it might be the vagus nerve, and I agree with that. If something presses on the vagus, it can cause slow heartbeat and fainting. The next time you have an episode, press your fingers on your neck and see what your heartbeat is doing, It may be that it slows so suddenly, it makes you weak. Then record it in your cute notebook and share with your next doctor. Only a suggestion, but it may help. And don’t be discouraged, there is a doctor out there for you. Sending lots of love to you.

    Elizabeth,
I am so sorry to learn you’ve not been feeling well, have been having such distressing symptoms, AND that you are having such difficulty getting a diagnosis. My medical connections are all on the east coast, and none are cardiac specialists, so I’m afraid I can’t help there, but I am so happy that many of your readers DO have connections closer to you. I also agree with everyone’s recommendations about the Mayo Clinic, and am happy to learn you’ll be speaking with a nurse tomorrow.
Do NOT let anyone “pooh-pooh” your symptoms and concerns. You know your body better than anyone else, and what is normal and what is not. I know from my experiences with my late husband’s health, and with my own bouts with cancer that WE have to be our own best advocates. I wish I could be be of more help, but please know I’m in your corner and thinking of you.
    xoxo, Catherine

    VIA EMAIL:
    Dear Elizabeth,

I was shocked and worried to read your blog post… my husband was diagnosed with Afib and recently went to the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL for the paddles…about two hours later, he was back in Afib. So he’s having ablasion at the end of this month…he has had low energy and shortness of breath, but has not fainted or had the type of episodes you describe. He is 71 and very active/in excellent health until this…he thinks you need to find an excellent cardiologist. TOP NOTCH. You have an amazing life with so many chapters yet to be written…including, I hope, a BOOK (….LIFE WITH BANKSY : ) I’m saying prayers and sending GOOD HEALTH thoughts your way… if there is anything we can do let us know…we have two extra bedrooms if you should decide to try Weston, FL Cleveland Clinic (and you would meet the STARS… Sammy, Bud and Mr. Chips, just saying). My husband’s brother and wife live in Miami, and they have extra rooms, too : )

If we can do anything to help, please let us know. SERIOUSLY.
    XO Mr. & Mrs. S.

    Hello, my dear Elizabeth,

My-Reason-For-Living-In-France has a pacemaker and stents and has had lots of interventions to fix all the mechanical aspects of his heart (in fact we’re going for a pacemaker tune-up today) plus a daily fistful of meds. He has had episodes, somewhat different from yours, but his cardiologist “prescribed” a little notebook to record each episode including a short explanation of what he was doing just prior to one and how he felt after. Then, his doctor asked him to come back in six weeks so he could study his notes. It was through this that his meds were finally perfectly dosed.

Are you up for a conversation? xoxo, Tish

I have really learned a lot today from reading the comments of your numerous, concerned, caring, informed, and loving followers.
I’m currently wearing a Zio Patch which is the updated version of a Holter heart monitor. I had an entire day of heart arythmia about a week ago which prompted a visit to my PA and then a doctor for followup and a second opinion on the results of my blood testing which revealed possible thyroid issues. Your symptoms are more numerous and more dramatic than mine but there are a few similarities. You are a lady I have grown fond of and because your current medical concerns parallel a few of my own I’ve been reading and thinking about you all day.
I Googled Vasovagal Syncope and chose to go to the Mato Clinic website discussion of it.
You really do have MANY of the symptoms they list. Have you read their on line information? I am praying that you will find a diagnosis from a doctor you trust and treatment you are comfortable with and confident of.
On another subject entirely I want you to know that the picture of you and your son’s pig is absolutely charming and endearing.
I hope this will be resolved very soon.
Love and hugs to you Elizabeth.

Well, this is simply ghastly! That cardiologist must having been wearing shoes that pinched — her brain and heart weren’t working, were they? Contessa, I add my sorrow to all these dear friends and fans– dreadful to suffer, but worse is NOT KNOWING the cause.

So clever of you to put it to your blog community, everyone has valuable insights. The one point I might make is that all headaches are not the same. Migraine meds are specific to vascular headaches and do not bring relief unless the headache is truly a migraine. Might you have headaches as one factor in caffeine withdrawal? I once gave up coffee for Lent was was dreadfully sick. My mother suggested a cup and if the headache lifted, I’d know it was part of withdrawal. It was. You might try some coffee to see if it helps the headaches… Then mix decaf with regular, gradually decreasing how much you consume, until upu are caffeine free again.

Reading your description and the replies here, there is a consensus that you must persevere and find a super-Doctor who will find the cause of this mystery. You are accompanied by our love and prayers???? Please keep us posted.(your plum trees are gorgeous!)

A few days ago, I thought there might be something going on with you…it was just a feeling I got after seeing some photos of you recently on Instagram. I was wondering if you were sad and now I know! What about a cardiophysiologist? That’s a highly specialized heart doctor. My sister had constant heart palps that drove her mad for years and then a cardiophysiologist gave her an ablation and she was cured. I’m just thinking that a super-specialized cardiologist may be the way to go. I think it’s cardio too. I’ll be thinking about you and sending you healing vibes every night. I’m really sad you are feeling unwell.

Dear Elizabeth, so sorry to hear your distressing news. Given the fact you have a leaky heart valve it would make sense to suspect heart problems but that may not necessarily that be the case. I remember after my daughter was born I started to have episodes not unlike the ones you describe. I visited many doctors and had all sorts of tests, wore that monitor thing which revealed a very fast pulse and skipped beats! and what was I doing at the time – eating breakfast. It was quite by chance I eventually saw an elderly physician who was a heart specialist and concluded not a heart problem but depression and panic/anxiety attacks. I was in shock as I have never been depressed, but he explained that the body was out of sync and the adrenaline was kicking in at the wrong time. A little like if you are home alone and you hear a noise, the body immediately goes into alert defense mode and the hair on your skin stands up the adrenaline kicks in ready for a defense. So this is what was happening to me at the oddest times, like in bed, at a party etc. he prescribed amytriptiline, generic name-Endep, an old fashioned antidepressant , I was on it for 6 months and it got my body back to an even keel. I think the pills just knocked me out and forced a very restful sleep and the body righted itself. Stress is so often unrecognised and comes in different forms. Yes one MD wanted to stop and start the heart to even out the beats! Forever grateful this physician, after doing all the obvious tests, went back to basics and commonsense. Body depression and stress just comes in so many different forms – I was in disbelief! Oh and like you I have low blood pressure. Hope you get some answers soon to alleviate your fears. Thinking of you. xx

    MI QUERIDÍSIMA CONTESSA,

I was about to comment your WONDERFUL penultimate post (YOUR ITALIAN BOY AND YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST GORGEOUS COUPLES EVER) when read “I need your help”…
What is happening to THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CONTESSA IN HISTORY???
I really feel sorry for you MY DEAR, but PLEASE, DO NOT WORRY. THERE WILL BE A SOLUTION.
SEARCH, SEARCH!!! YOU WILL FIND AN ANGEL-DOCTOR.
I agree with all MY FANTASTIC MATES’ COMMENTS, but I LOOOOVED the one by PPP.
Tell me DEAR, what about your ORAL CAVITY?
There is a Spanish saying that goes ” El cuerpo llora por los dientes”: Our body cries through our teeth”.
Most of us do not know that buccal problems (even those we are not aware of) may cause migraines, heart, liver or kidney diseases, arthritis…
Some stubborn doctors and dentists DO NOT ADMIT this fact.
When at Rochester tell them: “By the way, as I am here, could you have a look at my teeth? I think I have a little infection” (you know some doctors DO NOT LIKE to be told what to do, so, become MEDITERRANIAN -Spanish, Italian, Moroccan, Provençale… (; – and play the part of the patient that suddenly has a TERRIBLE TOOTHACHE (; (: .

I LOOOOVE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A LOT.

Me again! I read your post at 2am last night & was so concerned again this morning. So for what it’s worth, here’s a bit more to think about (as if you need any more – ha!).

I can’t offer medical suggestions, but I do know that during an unpleasant/frightening experience we often forget to BREATHE!

So darling whenever you can – when you feel an episode coming on – or indeed at ANY time – several times a day as well as just prior to sleeping – try & focus on breathing deeply but gently – simply counting your breath in and out – which WILL at least shift your focus & will CALM you in the moment.

Just try & do this a few times a day & right before you sleep. It will help on some level.

PLUS, I often also say out loud the words I learnt from the wonderful Dr Bruce Lipman … “All the cells in my body are working in perfect harmony with one another … they know what to do – I am safe and I am loved.”

This little ‘mantra’ along with calm deep breathing again shifts your focus in the moment to a more positive level & so really works to at least calm you during periods of uncertainty & stress.

So … BREATHE and SAY THAT LITTLE MANTRA- or make one up that resonates with you.

    Lots of love!
    Mary-Jill

OMG, I’m so sorry and surprised to hear you’re having such frightening and perplexing health problems. I do hope you quickly get more help to feel healthy again. It does remind me of my artist friend who had fainting problems several years ago which were also caused by her heart. But… the heart problems were caused by the radiation she had during her Hodgkin’s Disease that she had in ’78. She has a pacemaker now (age 65). Now she’s having more problems, extreme exhaustion, so open heart surgery is planned.

Try to get more opinions from specialists. What about the possibility of allergies from plants or trees? Could they also affect you? Food allergies? I stopped eating added sugar (hidden sugars, etc) 5 months ago which has made me feel much healthier. I don’t have any pain more in my right shoulder which I’d had for 3 years. Perhaps your condition is a combination of factors?

Sending you love and healing vibes to get better soon!

Can’t get you off my mind … many good suggestions here but a second opinion/workup wherever you decide is best for you sounds really right to me. I happened upon this link from the Washington Post that might be helpful as you go about this:

wow, UCSF and Mayo are tops. I know a brilliant group in Rosemary Beach, Florida. She does a comprehensive blood test that costs about $10,000.00 and what your insurance will not pay, they “write off the rest of the costs”. How do I know, I had the same test. Lets look into places in Texas too while we are at it. I am still thinking hard on this for you Contessa! In the meantime, you are keeping a great polka dot history and you have a good healthy diet. The key is to find a great doctor that understands what you are going through and that you have goals to make. Places to travel to. Keep that great smile and do not stop… I enjoy your blog. I have it after reading one of your replyes. After my daughter had her 3rd baby boy she had the same systems and thought she was having heart issues. She never knew when it was going to happen, but she got dizzy and had to sit down or she was going to faint. She went to her homeopathic chiropractic. He told her it was the vagus nerve. I am not exactly sure what he did to get it back in place, but it cured her. It might take more times to get it back in place. No nedicatiins or going to the heart doctor needed thank goodness!

I wrote my reply above and then later saw the comment about your pulse being at 90. Strangely, in addition to all the symptoms I mentioned in my post, I forgot to mention that when my thyroid was high, my pulse went from its usual 60 to 90. I am not a doctor but being tested for thyroid is basic, not expensive, etc etc. Rule out the horses before you look for zebras. Love to you…

Dear, dear Contessa…I don’t know what to say. I really don’t, other than maybe you SHOULD go to the Mayo Clinic. We have the big one out here in Rochester, but maybe a trip to Scottsdale would be good. My husband went to the one her and got a fabulous treatment and diagnosis for his knee. I have two friends, about mid 60s that have the same thing, but I don’t know what it’s called. They are on medication, but you really do need a diagnosis. If I were you, I’d continue to insist that you see a specialist to put your mind at ease. YOU HAVE TOO MUCH OF LIFE TO SEE and DO!!!!!!

I agree with the person who recommended Mayo, in Rochester, MN. They actually have a Women’s Heart Clinic, within Mayo. I was treated there and it was a really good experience. It is staffed by women and they don’t hesitate to work with physicians in other areas of expertise, if they feel it is warranted. It is a team experience, with everyone sharing their knowledge & expertise. It helps if you have a referral from your doctor, but you don’t have to have one. You can also just go there and if they have a cancellation, they will work you in. Good luck to you on your journey to recover your health and well-being~

Also inform the Mayo if they get a cancellation, you would like to be put on the list in case someone cancels an earlier appt.

I am so sorry to hear that you are unwell Elizabeth. I am not sure I have much advice to give. Have you had any blood tests done? I find it strange that your blood pressure went from low to high and that you are also having severe headaches. I think they might be a side-effect of your blood pressure. It all sounds like a mystery but I am sure that a good physician will get to the bottom of it and come up with a diagnosis. I’ll be thinking of you and praying that all will be well.

La Contessa– are you saying when you looked up vagus nerve depression came up? That does not make sense if that was the response in your search. Vagus nerve problems are not related to depression. You might get frustrated and depressed until the vagus nerve problems are solved . But that would be about it.

OMG NO! Please go back and look at “vagus nerve function”. Even the briefest description covered some of your symptoms. Mom will pass out when having a bowel movement because of the vagus nerve being overly stimulated. It also mentions blood pressure, etc. I’m not smart enough to get the link here but I beg you to try again.

The vagus nerve is involved in one of the most common causes of fainting, called vasovagal syncope. This is an overreaction of the body to certain stimuli, like the sight of blood, which involves the stimulation of the vagus nerve. This stimulation causes a drop in blood pressure and heart rate. Less blood flows to brain, resulting in loss of consciousness. In most cases, vasovagal syncope does not require treatment.
THIS COULD BE IT BUT I DONOT LIKE THE ENDING!!!!!!!!!!
      “DOESNOT REQUIRE TREATMENT!”

Many of the things you mention sound like dysautonomia. Has your cardiologist done a tilt table test? I’m so sorry to hear you feel so ill. I know you, and there is no percentage for you to have “imaginary” symptoms. Unfortunately, as women and women of a certain age, we get patted on the head and told to “calm down”. While I’m all for calm, it’s very hard to be that when you are not being heard.

Also, seems you need a different cardiologist and especially one who will not stop until your health issue is solved! I can understand your anger and I feel anger on your behalf. Blood pressure medication isn’t to “calm” one. It’s to help regulate one’s blood pressure so I am amazed at what your doc said to you. I hope some of us have helped and good luck!

    Ma Chere Contessa,
I am sorry you had another, very scary episode in the bank.
You must get an opinion outside your regular care system which I think you said was Kaiser.
You need to find that “rock star” cardiologist who can diagnose your problem.
You need to find a doctor or doctors connected to a research medical center.
The Mayo Clinic is well recognized, but perhaps you should start with the UC or Stanford Medical Center closer to home.
Find out how Kaiser will pay for a second opinion.
These medical centers have the structure and protocol you need to deal with an undiagnosed condition such as yours.
I had two experiences with undiagnosed or inadequately treated conditions.
My mother had a series of unsatisfactorily treated sinus infections as a Kaiser patient. She finally got her problem solved when she saw a UC med doctor.
My son is currently being treated at the UC med center for a painful skin inflammation that made it difficult to stand for any length of time.
The diagnosis and correct treatment was a puzzle for the doctors.
Many specialists were brought in until they zeroed in on his specific issues and found successful treatment.
That is the procedure at a medical research center.
    This is what you need.
    Begin right away! Don’t delay!
I’m thinking about you and wish you the best!
You want to attend that fantastic English garden show…Chealsea Gardens?

Contessa… this sounds like a ROYAL pain in the $%%! So sorry you are not feeling well. Take my word for it… be persistent in finding the right dr. My daughter was very ill and the dopey dr. wanted to put her on antidepressants because he thought she was an anorexic. My husband ended up in a screaming match with him because he was a trained medical doctor and we knew nothing. We left and I started reading reviews about docs and found one in which every reviewer said that she was a good listener. That was the key – the last doc made up his mind the minute he saw her and never listened. By the grace of God, the next Doc diagnosed her with a weak LES and double hernia within days. My girl is very healthy today. Good luck and don’t give up.

Elizabeth, I am so sorry to hear this. How frightening and frustrating. The only things I can offer are first go find another doctor who will listen to you and read that little polka dot journal. Keep looking and interviewing until you find one! I have found that your basic family doctor – GP or whatever – IF they are excellent diagnosticians, can make all the difference. Listening to you, and having the knowledge to put together the pieces and send you to the best specialist is crucial. The only cardiologist I know of is in San Francisco. Dr. Dave Vaughan. My brother had a bit of an issue last year and happened upon him at St Mary’s I believe. Oh, and he happens to be the brother of my bestest friend growing up. And yes, I had a crush on him. 😉 He is supposed to be quite good, and a good listener. Let me know if you would like more info. The only other thing I can offer is treating you to a relaxing tea or lunch with conversation when you’re up for it next time I’m in the area. Keep searching, stay positive. There is a doctor out there who will help you. Healing thoughts and love sent your way. hugs.

Dear Elizabeth, as you know I am recuperating from major spine surgery, so I guess I can say “I feel you pain…….meant to be ironic….ha” What is happening to you sounds really scary to me, but as always it sounds like you are dealing with this all like the unique La Contessa that you are. I do think it is important to listen to your body most of all. We know ourselves more than any doctor (at least that is what I have found). Sorry your friend cardiologist has retired and you are not wild about the new one..keeps happening to me too.

I do think it sounds like something you should not ignore, and it sounds to me like it is related to your heart. So, I would do all the tests and take the high blood pressure meds. I’ve had high blood pressure for 20 years (runs in the family) and that Dr. who said “to calm you” should be hit over the head with the closet PDR.

Since I live so close, if you would like a visit, I would be honored…after all, you are as close to royalty as I will ever meet. I can’t drive yet, and the walk would be to far for my broken foot (soon to have foot surgery). Rob can either drop me off, we we both could visit for a bit. I am worried about you…….so let me know. Love and hugs, Candy

Google Dr. Michael Lee in Oakland affiliated with Stanford. Go to Beverly Hills. Keep searching – I think it IS cardio and you need to find your right doc. Blood pressure pills are not the answer. VIA EMAIL: Hello there. This is Cindy-I’m only a dentist. It passionate about health and wholistic medicine. At 57 I have also had a lot of personal/family experience.

Our medical system is like an elephant. The trunk doesn’t know what the hoof is doing and the ears don’t know what either do. It is a complete mess.

I personally would head straight to the Mayo Clinic in a Rochester Minnesota-not even all Mayos are the same. They have all the specialists under one roof and you can literally be diagnosed in a day. They all talk to each other. If you’d like I can get the name of the cardiologist recommended. It is a totally different experience than anything you will get just going to a specialist. If you need to have surgery you will be in the best place. This is where they invented the heart lung machine.

My mom at 78 had valve replacement and the MAZE procedure to stop AFib at the same time and was on the plane home in 4 days.

Just my personal nap recommendation. You need to be in a wholistic setting.

    XO

I have a friend who suffered similar symptoms following a surgery. It turned out after many excruciating months of pain and diagnostic dead ends that it was actually her kidneys having sort of an allergic reaction to a medicine. So not the typical symptoms we associate with allergic reactions like narrowing throat, congestion but it was a chemical reaction. Her kidneys couldn’t effectively process this medicine and it built up as a toxicity in her blood. Forgive me for way over simplifying a very very complicated thing but I think that was the gist of her problems. Are the symptoms you’re experiencing now similar to those you used to when you still ate gluten in any way? Just wondering if there’s any parallel there considering you know very well how your body responds to allergic inflammation. Have you noticed any changes in your skin? Certainly doesn’t seem like an allergy but then again we know you’re not normal! 🙂
It’s terrible when this happens and you have my sympathy. There is so much more to medicine than the black and white of lab work and records. You’re wise to explore alternative options and theories. Keep advocating for yourself. Also have you ever heard of the blogger “Nana Diana”? Her grandson was very sick with an unknown illness and was getting progressively worse. She posted about it on her blog and asked if anyone had any ideas. Someone wrote that they wondered if it was Kawasaki disease. That turned out to be correct and he made a rapid recovery. One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen happen in the blog world. More minds, ideas, and experiences are a good thing.

    Ciao,
I am so sorry you’re not feeling well.
I have a skilled cardiologist, Dr. Satinder Bhatia in Beverly Hills. He’s brilliant. It is difficult to get an appointment but we’ll worth the effort. His number is: 310 278-3400.
Good luck and I hope you have a rapid recovery!
    XO

WTH! I am so sorry and shocked to hear this. You live life so large and beautifully every day…and selfishilly (is that a word) come to expect your energy, wit, pictures, beauty etc. every day. Never sending much of anything in return. Crumbs maybe.
Yes! Definitely Get another opinion! Has to be some medical educated guess somewhere from an intelligent source. In the meantime Contessa, I will pray for your energy, peace, healing and answers.
I still have plans on meeting you some day!
Hugs you you! xo xo LOreen

I would strongly suggest seeing a functional medicine physician – https://www.functionalmedicine.org/
I stopped using mainstream medicine several years ago for severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. I do use mainstream doctors when absolutely needed. Functional medicine physicians get to the cause of the problem, rather than prescribing a medication to cover up the symptoms.
I wish you well in getting well. Our bodies want to be well.
I’ll be checking your blog to see how you are doing and you will be in my thoughts.
