PHOTOS of THE GIARDINO!

April 27, 2026 64 Comments

I recently heard a noise that sounded like a squirrel screaming!I ignored it which is ODD FOR ME TO DO.

After a few minutes BETTY, the ROTTI sailed by me at high speed. She was headed under the kitchen table. As I walked into the kitchen I noticed a small bird on the ground.I scooped him up.He had a bit of blood close to his nose.I walked outside with him and took two photos.I then put him on the table from which he took off for my BIG YELLOW UMBRELLA.He stayed up there for at least 15 minutes.I sat underneath him and could see his shadow perfectly through the yellow Sun Umbrella.

After 15 minutes of just sitting there he took off………………

So, I hope all is well and he found his family.

BETTY THE GUARD DOG AND BODY GUARD!

TIGRE arrived and immediately LOOKED SKYWARD.Very interested in the LITTLE BIRDIE.

Who was on top of the yellow umbrella.

I told TIGRE to take a hike and he did!

MY LITTLE GUY LISTENS…………….thats rare!

ME IN A RELAXED MODE in our garden.

Note, how the shoes pick up the color in the pants which shows up in the coat!

Even the peony to the left share the BURNDT ORANGE in the coat and pants.

I do not do this on PURPOSE!

It just HAPPEN’s!

ROSES………if you had to pick between the THREE which would it be?

EDEN~BOLERO~ELINA are the names of the roses from Left to Right.

All fragrant but BOLERO GETS THE PRIZE from me!

WHAT AM I HOLDING IN MY HANDS BELOW?

AN EGG from the COOP!

Both the PEONY and BETTY are OUT of FOCUS!I am noticing more and MORE I cannot see the way I use to SEE……….is that normal for 65 and BEYOND?

I suppose SO………

I had a skin cancer removed this past month.Loved that doctor!SHE HAD PERSONALITY!She left a big deep hole by my collar bone.Yesterday, they emailed me it’s time for another COLONOSCOPY!I was just there I feel.It said, “Due to what we found in your last visit we would like you to come back sooner than later………!”

Anyone know the name of this little pink plant? These pink BALLS as I call them were planted at my home when I was a little girl in MILL VALLEY.There were three railroad ties with SCOTCH MOSS and these BEAUTIES!I spent hours playing there; I do remember that!I thought it ALL WAS SO BEAUTIFUL!

I still DO!

Anyone out there recall the song MILL VALLEY?Wish I could say that was ME SINGING, but it was the class BELOW us,”MILL VALLEY, thats my HOME………..”written by one of the elementary school teachers RITA ABRAMS in 1969.”It reached the billboard HOT 100 in 1970 and became an international hit, featuring a music video directed by FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA!”

I did not know that!

PEONY BEFORE THE BLOOM!

PEONY………..very fragrant.

Our First Harvest of CILANTRO EVER!I adore cilantro.I know some people can’t stand it, but I love it.Do you know cilantro takes LEAD OUT OF YOUR BODY!Back in the day I learned this and it worked for me.My blood lead number was 16 I think and it dropped down to 2.I would sprinkle it on meat and salad plus I love making a TOSTADA with cheddar cheese and tomatoes and cilantro!Add a dollop of sour cream and half an avocado if you want to elevate it! Of course melt the cheese under the broiler FIRST!

WHITE SWAN…………..RHODODENDRON.

Frontyard is blooming!A few of the roses here I have NEVER seen bloom because THE DEER come in and eat the rose buds! This year that has not happened! The deer must have found a new source for nutrition!

Peony,Sorry I do not know the names to the peonies as many were gifted to me a couple of years ago. This one reminds me of an ICE CREAM CONE!

LIONS TAIL does well in partial shade.

NEW DAWN.

Garden bit from NEW ORLEANS.In 1985 went to New Orleans for a business trip.Found myself bringing home 18 pieces of garden ornaments!I lived in a STUDIO APARTMENT! WIth no garden! At least I knew what I LIKED and the direction my GARDEN would take in the future!

THE NEW GARDEN Planters.Taking over my SHASTA DAISIES………if you need a hardy plant that spreads on its own try SHASTA DAISIES………I give them no water. They live in partial shade and sun.Totally, neglected through out the year and still BLOOM PROFUSELY.Shasta Daisies to left of planter boxes. They bloom in the summer time.

This is the newest rose to my garden which is about three years old.JULIA CHILDS.

BOLERO ROSE…….very fragrant.

The walk to the chicken coop!

A garden set I found years ago at a garage sale. The ITALIAN is working on seats for me!WE have purchased the fabric now he needs to re-build them and add the fabric! This will be OUR BEFORE PHOTO…………..

The YELLOW JASMINE is just starting to BLOOM.I will share MORE of that at a LATER DATE!

WORTH THE WAIT after all the years I spent planting and weeding and NEEDING!I do not crave much if anything now.So, happy I did what I did when I did it.Sure, am ENJOYING it ALL NOW.

THE GARDEN AS IT WAS YESTERDAY in the early evening.

    Dear Contessa,

I was certain that I replied to this post, but now I can’t find it – ACK! Please excuse me either way. As a passionate gardener and plantswoman, this segment of The Vintage Contessa was pure delight for me! Pathways! Roses! Concrete statuary! The lady of the manor cavorting about amongst it all! I enjoyed this so much; I’ve gone through it several times now. I especially love the chickens’ Italian villa water bowl – of course you would do that. Thank you for entertaining us with all of this beauty. One of my three ‘New Dawn’ roses was absolutely spectacular this year. It still has many blooms, but must have started out with a million. What do you feed your roses?

Hope things are looking up for you there. Again, thanks for the treat.

Always love love love your garden, especially in the spring!
Julia Child rose is one of my most very favorites…sadly we have Japanese beetles in Colorado that prefer eating roses to any other food source. So for now, no roses for me.
Your cilantro is amazing! I happen to think it is delicious, so lucky for us we are receiving all of its health benefits. I may need to grow a patch this summer…

Greetings, I’m jealous of your garden…it’s beautiful. I tried peonies but no luck.
I only have lavender, yarrow, hellibores (which do well. In pots here) and geraniums. I’m always making small indoor arrangements and they bring me joy.
    Enjoy your garden.

Hi Elizabeth. What a little slice of heaven you have out your door – so floral and pretty – and lovely photos of you in the garden! My three small deep pink rose bushes are blooming in NC. The first year we moved here we had only a few roses because the deer nibbled on most of the buds – now we are smarter and spray deer repellent. Take good care!

You sound like you are feeling better – and you’re as lovely as your gardens!
I heard squirrels screaming in the trees one afternoon as I walked into the gym. I stopped to look up into the trees… as did everyone else out there – and this old guy chuckled, “They’re just havin’ sex, y’all.” Racing through the branches, screaming… LOL, the good old days when we were younger!
The Julia Child rose is remarkable, it looks good enough to eat! And, yes, the King, the real king, made a lovely, wise, learned speech. If only his counsel would be heeded by this bunch of hooligans!
    Enjoy those glorious gardens.

    Hi Elizabeth,
Wow, your garden is like a resort paradise, full of so many beautiful flowers, shrubs, and everything between. I adore Peonies, I’ve asked my Honey Bear, also known as the “Rose King” if he knows what this pretty pink flower is. It’s going to have another name besides Mill Valley where you acquired it maybe from. On a side note did you ever go to “Sweet Water?” We used to go there in 1978 to listen to their music when we lived in Sausalito and Stinson Beach.
Interesting about Cilantro taking out the leaf out of your system. I love Cilantro.
I love all of your flowers and you walking us through your oasis . I agree with you, Bolero has my heart. It’s gorgeous, has a vintage look to it. Do you guys fertilize your flowers and garden?
My thoughts are with you on another Colonoscopy. The forced liquids for the prep is not easy on the body. It’s an important test to have.
Take TLC of yourself and stay safe out there.

    Hi there CONTESSA
Your garden is a beautiful oasis. So inviting.
It’s wonderful after years how a garden just bursts and attracts birds and insects.
On the BC west coast here the cherry blossoms are staring their finale. Tulips are out.
    Rhodos and azaleas are blooming.
I noticed as I was passing our front garden area today there will be lots of peonies.
That is good that they want you back sooner than later. I seemed to be the only person who doesn’t mind the prep for a colonoscopy!
You will have a nice assortment of veggies.
    Fresh eggs -what a taste.
Just continue to sit back and enjoy your garden.

The garden is absolutely gorgeous!!!! So much is in bloom….your roses are way ahead of ours. Must be heavenly to sit and listen to the birdsong and gaze at the wonderful flowers.

We must be grateful for our medical systems and tests that help keep us healthy! I know that colonoscopy prep is not fun but it’s a valuable test.

Take care and give your fur babies a hug!!

Fabulosity what a garden, a delight around every corner . I have developed a few and then we moved on when they had just matured usually after 7 or 14 years . It’s sad when new owners have a different vision and tell you they have removed 5 trailer loads of rubbish as they call beautiful flowering plants grrrr??
