LUNCHEON & EEG

March 6, 2024 75 Comments

IT all started with an INVITATION and a PHOTO on Instagram!

I needed a reason to start LIVING again.

I needed a reason to set a pretty table and cook a bit.

My reason for doing this was to meet a few of my INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS!

I found myself doing a real MIX of CHINA!

I found myself welcoming THREE LOVELY LADIES from different parts of NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.

I wanted to keep the group small so everyone could chat.

Conversation was good and it can be AMAZING how small the world can be!

SAY HELLO TO RACHEL, MARCI and FABIENNE.

FABIENNE is an ARTIST~PHOTOGRAPHER

YOU can see her work here………https://www.fabartgallery.com

Our lunch started with a Butternut Squash soup then two salads.

A chicken salad served on a bed of lettuce and arugula and a Broccoli salad with sunflower seeds and dried cranberries.

Dessert was home made oatmeal cookies that I made two days prior while I was wired up!

With The ITALIAN’s coffee.

IT WAS EASY TO PUT TOGETHER IN TWO DAYS TIME.I URGE YOU PEOPLE TO INVITE OTHERS TO YOUR HOME AND COPY ME!THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER AND SHARING THAT FEEDS THE SOUL!

The beginning of the wires…….ALL 23 ON THE HEAD and 2 on the chest.

THIS IS FOR AN EEG IN MY HOME………..to see my BRAIN ACTIVITY.

If there is ANY!

MEASURING MY HEAD FOR THE PROCEDURE.

X MARKS THE SPOT……….I THINK I END UP WITH THREE OF THEM!

NO ASSOCIATION WITH TWITTER HEADQUARTERS!

YES!

I SEE THREE MARKS ON MY FOREHEAD!

My in house NURSE was an EMT before taking on this job.

SHE LOVED BETTY!

Betty loved her as she would toss the ball!

LOVELY PHOTOS…………..HO HUM!

YOU CANNOT SAY I EDIT OR HIDE ANYTHING FROM YOU PEOPLE!

I will get a total of 23 electrodes on my head which will be filmed as a camera is set up in the kitchen and my bedroom!I was to stay in front of those cameras all day and all night or I would get a phone call saying.”WHERE ARE YOU WE CAN’T SEE YOU?!”

HERE IS AN IMAGE OF THE PLACEMENT OF EACH………A LOT OF MEASURING AND RUBBER BANDS TAKES PLACE!

A TOTAL OF ABOUT THREE HOURS TO DO THIS!

SHE USED A HEAVY DUTY GLUE TO GET THE ELECTRODES TO STICK.

JUST LOVELY!

I have to wear this for THREE DAYS and not lose a wire or she has to come back…….just a little bit of STRESS!Meanwhile they call twice a day from HEADQUARTERS in TEXAS to make sure THE LAPTOP is collecting the INFO!

NEEDLESS, TO SAY I DIDNOT LEAVE THE HOUSE…………..ONE DAY I WENT TO THE MAILBOX AND OF COURSE A NEIGHBOR SAW ME!

I LAUGHED TO MYSELF AND THOUGHT I WONDER HOW FAST THAT RUMOR WILL FLY THROUGH THE HOOD!

IT IS A VERY SCARY LOOK; EVEN THOUGH YOU KNOW ITS NOT AN ACCIDENT NOR BRAIN SURGERY WHAT THIS IMAGE DID TO ME MENTALLY WAS NOT GOOD!Just catching yourself in a mirror reminded me of what they are looking for…………

I MADE IT THROUGH NOW WAITING ON THE RESULTS OF THE TEST!

THIS TEST IS FOR THE FOACL SEIZURES/EPILEPSY DIAGNOSIS THREE YEARS AGO.

I had 12 MORE SEIZURES in 2023 than I did in 2022………….I WANT TO KNOW WHY!

I TOOK THIS PHOTO THINKING I SHOULD WAIT AS IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER!

GLAD I DID AS THE RAIN CAME LATER THAT NIGHT AND TOOK ALL THE BLOSSOMS AWAY!

ONE DAY OF THIS BEAUTY.

JUST ONE DAY!

I WAIT ALL YEAR FOR THIS SHOW!

THE DAY THE WIRES COME OFF!

WITH ALL THESE PADS AND GLUE!

I HAVE BEEN UP SINCE 4 AM AND SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS BEING FINISHED!

THE PROCESS OF THE HAIR WAS LIKE BEING AT THE HAIR SALON FOR HOURS……………..

I KNOW YOU ARE COMPLETELY JEALOUS THAT I HAD THIS DONE IN MY HOME AND YOU DIDNOT GET TO EXPERIENCE IT WITH ME!

NEUBULIZING TWICE A DAY FOR THE LUNGS………………………OH JOY!

YOU CAN SEE HERE I GOT CREATIVE AND ADDED A FEW RINGS TO THE EARS AND FINGERS!

I EVEN PUT MAKE UP ON………………THERE IS NOTHING ON MY EYEBROWS.DO I NEED TO DO THEM TOO?I COULD HAVE BLENDED THE EYESHADOW BETTER BUT HELL………..I WAS NOT IN A MOOD TO BE EFFICIENT NOR BEAUTIFUL!

PURELY ENTERTAINMENT……………FOR YOU!

THE TOTAL LOOK WAS WORTH THE SMILE ON YOUR FACE!

(I was thinking do I DARE SHARE this with my READERS?)

SEE THE BAG I HAD TO CARRY WITH ME 24/7 ?

I SLEPT WITH IT THE FIRST NIGHT ON MY CHEST!

It was a tad heavy.

Sometimes, I did the CROSS BODY BAG LOOK WHICH I DISLIKE …………because the bag comes right up under the BOOB!

The bag carries a machine to press a button if I have a seizure or episode as I call them and it keeps the wires as well.

NO TISSUES or CREDIT CARDS!

HERE ARE A FEW WIRES I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF IN THE SHOWER………NOT A REAL FUN PROCESS BUT IT CAN BE DONE IF YOU ARENOT IN A HURRY!

I STILL HAVE GLUE IN MY HAIR FIVE DAYS LATER………….HO HUM.

(This is an old stone sink we brought back from Italy 30 years ago!)

NO NEWS YET ON THE EEG………THEY TOLD ME ABOUT A WEEK.

I AM WEARING THE COMPRESSION SOCKS WHICH DO HELP WITH THE WATER RETENTION.

I AM HUNGRY ALL THE TIME AND WANT TO EAT THE BAD STUFF LIKE CHOCOLATE.WHEN I DO EAT CHOCOLATE I NOW GET PIMPLES ON MY FACE!I NEVER HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE!

AS FOR PEEING, I GO FREQUENTLY,BUT WHAT IS MORE ANNOYING IS THE FACT IT JUST KEEPS ON COMING EVEN WHEN YOU THINK YOU ARE DONE!AND IF YOU USE THAT TRICK OF LEANING FORWARD EVEN MORE COMES OUT!I DONOT DRINK A LOT OF WATER.I NEVER HAVE.NOW WITH HEART FAIURE THEY TELL ME NOT TO DRINK MUCH.I THINK AND I WANT TO MEASURE IT FOR MY OWN KNOWLEDGE; I DRINK A GLASS A DAY OF WATER THAT WOULD INCLUDE MY “COCKTAIL” OF CRANBERRY JUICE AND BUBBLE WATER IN A STEMMED WINE GLASS WITH ICE EACH NIGHT BEFORE DINNER.

THE” BUN” ON YOUR LAB WORK MEASURES THE AMOUNT OF UREA NITROGEN IN YOUR BLOOD AND YOUR HYDRATION LEVEL OF YOUR ORGANS; I WAS TOLD BY MY HEART CARE PERSON.SHE SAID TO KEEP DOING WHAT I HAVE BEEN DRINKING AS IT WAS PERFECT!

I FIND THAT SO INTERESTING AS YOU KEEP HEARING DRINK DRINK DRINK 8 GLASSES A DAY!

AS WE SAY GOOD- BYE

remember to comment!

KEEP SCROLLING DOWNWARDS!

THEODORE and BETTY STILL RULE THE KINGDOM HERE

WHICH IS WHY THEY WANT TO KNOW WHY WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR OLAF TO BE FED FIRST!

THIS IS 4:30am in MY CASA!

BE WELL ……….EVERYONE!

    Hi Elizabeth,
I have no idea why I’m just now seeing your latest post. Anyway hope you have some good test results by now, what an ordeal.
Good health is so important and sometimes beyond our control even though there is so much advice out that there says the opposite, it’s enough to drive a person crazy. We can’t really control much, can we? I think all we can do is live to the best of our ability and try to keep a positive attitude. You seem to have that figured out!
I’ve been down with COVID (4 years and I never caught it!), it became pneumonia, I’m recovering slowly. Ugh it’s a real drag. I really don’t have time for this!
Your lunch looks like it was a hit, such a nice idea, delicious food I’m sure, and of course a beautiful table. Your guests were lucky!
Take it easy you, the sun is shining today!

Can’t believe it’s been a week already! Time flies and the days can blur together, but some experiences leave lasting memories. The Instagram Followers luncheon at Elizabeth’s magic home is definitely one of those.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for your warm hospitality, especially knowing you just had all those EEG wires taken off your head the day before! The lunch was delicious and the company was even better – I’m not shy to say, I absolutely fell in love with OLAF the pig (his gentle nature stole my heart!). Many thanks also to THE Italian Husband’s hospitality and authentic espresso, a perfect pairing for the home-made cookies.

I don’t know how LA CONTESSA first showed up on my Instagram feed, but as soon as she did, I became a fervent follower. Whether it was thanks to a shared follower or the mysteries of the algorithm, I’m so grateful that our paths crossed and truly hope they’ll cross again in the future. I heard through the grapevine that the pizza oven will be firing up soon with the warmer weather – can’t wait to see you again, Elizabeth!
Thanks again for a memorable luncheon.
    Cheers, Fab

It is always like taking an unexpected journey… your blog. Like going off the main road into the back roads. The photos are priceless as is the description of the process… it made me laugh, sigh, and be amazed at how you take it in stride, usually with a smile. A life lesson that I still work to achieve.. to face the headwinds with equanimity and even positivity. You are the unsinkable Contessa. Your strength shines through every post and helps all your readers in ways you will never know. And the get together luncheon was beautiful… and you are right, we need more of the socialization that used to be commonplace. Loneliness is a critical problem. Sending love and all best wishes for a good report… XO

I’ll bet that you drive The Italian wild- hope that I can be as glamorous as you someday…I appreciate your authenticity, and you make me laugh in the best possible way! For what it’s worth, I miss shopping at your store in Lafayette.

Some encouraging scientific findings at least about dark chocolate (one should always check with their physician first if they are receiving medical treatment and use moderation)…..according to UC Davis, most dark chocolate is rich in plant chemicals called flavanols (antioxidants linked to a lower risk of heart disease). Though some (flavanols) are lost in processing….in theory, dark chocolate will contain higher flavanol content (greater health benefit) than milk chocolate (contains much less) and white chocolate (contains none). According to the NIH, it confers safeguards against cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancers, and other brain-related disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc. Dark chocolate is considered a functional food due to its anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties. It also has a well-established role in weight management and the alteration of a lipid profile to a healthy direction. Hooray! That said, of course one should also be cognizant of the brands one selects to avoid unintentionally ingesting unsafe levels of cadmium and lead (https://www.consumerreports.org/health/food-safety/lead-and-cadmium-in-dark-chocolate-a8480295550/).

I will be praying for answers, wisdom to discern medical advice given, encouragement, perseverance, and healing over your life. Thank you for being you.

I laughed out loud over some of these pictures. You never cease to amaze me. I thought of Jacob Marley when I saw your head all bandaged up. And I saw the cross and thought it had to have been Ash Wednesday. Beauty/practical tip: If you still have glue in your hair. Massage Argan Oil (or another natural oil, if you don’t have any Argan) into the scalp and hair. Take time to do this. It will stimulate your scalp. The oil will help to break down the glue. Sit with your hair up in a towel for a while if you have time. When you wash your hair, you will notice that it feels sleek and clean. And once dry, you will look like you had a hair makeover. I have done this right before washing my hair the last couple of times. Your table looks so nice, and what fun to have new ladies to lunch! If I could ever get my house tidied, I would like to do that. I want to use some of this china I have accumulated. You look radiant at the lunch. Your long hair is gorgeous, and if my eyebrows looked 1/3 as good as yours, I would jump for joy. Hoping for good news on the EEG. I misread your headline as “egg.”

Dear Contessa, you are AMAZING! to be so cheerful and giving. No time to feel sorry for yourself. I so admire you and your way of living your life, me being a bit of a complainer with lots of medical issues.
I have a solution for chocolate cravings I read online many years ago and it works for me and it consists of taking chromium piccolinate as a supplement daily. The chocolate can sit in the drawer for months and I don’t even look in its direction! Now if they would only find a solution for cookie and pastry cravings I could go down a size or two.
Hope you get resolution on your health and keep bringing your followers joy with your piggy and your caftans and your Italian. Lots of love from me in Seattle.

What a wonderful idea to invite some dear friends to your home for a beautiful meal. I can tell from the photos you put so much love into everything. The table setting looks fun, creative, and so you. I admire that you did this considering how you feel. Sometimes you just have to go for it and make things happen.
Oh my goodness me what you went through with all the wires and procedure is something I’m sure you will never forget. Now waiting for the results. Hopefully there will be answers that come your way. It’s good you have a sense of humor to get you through all the things that you face. Heart patients understand the water intake and bathroom visits. Especially at night when you lie down, the body relaxes creating the urge to go. It’s a good thing, to measure your intake of fluids. I need to do that, also. Your test showed good hydration that’s great. It does show in your skin you are hydrated.
Picturing the neighbor looking at your head wrap. Next time shout out its on my blog!
Beautiful table you set and I know this luncheon was a real treat for your guests. When summer arrives maybe you can do more garden lunch’s. With my friends over the years we do get- togethers at each others homes and we each bring the ingredients to make our special dish. Always fun and no pressure on anyone.
Soooo, your brows need nothing and loved seeing the back of your hair. You really see your layered cut. Love the length and cut. Love the 4am snap of Betty and Theodore waiting for their turn. Pets are a joy and bring so much to the daily grind. I know mine do. Most of my day is caring for my 13 year old springer. Not to mention the orange cat (Mr Kitty Black) that showed up one day and started ordering breakfast and dinner.
I hope this latest test for focal seizures gives you a better idea of what’s going on; If it’s connected to oxygen levels. Keep us posted.
    Wishing you sunshine.

Wow – what you’ve been through! And you’re still smiling! I had something similar done, when I was having these weird auras in my 30’s. They put all that on my head and I had to wear a little battery pack all weekend. They found nothing. But that was 35 years ago – I’m sure things are much more advanced at this point!
Best of luck with all of it and I hope spring brings a hopeful season for you out there! Love from VA!

Good on you for cheering yourself by inviting people to lunch – being proactive. It looks like you all had fun. I gave myself concussion while working outside on Monday. Which included a cut on my head. Which bled lots. I wasn’t sure how bad it was, so I went to hospital. While I waited to be seen I was also required to wear the bandage around the head and chin. Caught sight of myself and it was a shock. The gash on the head was not as big as expected. So they glued it. Boy did that sting for some time!. I can’t wash my hair until Sunday. I too have trouble with going to the loo often etc and I’m only 52. So I will have a look at that link and try the tongue on the roof of the mouth tip. I am not liking the concussion symptoms. And suspect it will take longer than I want to recover. Meanwhile, problems with my youngest son and his new school to deal with at the same time. And the eldest unmotivated to find a job or choose some training. Which I am currently lying awake worrying about. That kitten I chose when my special Nimh died, has proved to be a menace. She has ruined curtains and ignores “no”. I feel guilty because I’m finding it really hard to like her. She is such a brat. I hope she calms down. At least she gets on with the dog. We just had to put the dog on new Arthritis pain medication as her Arthritis pain and stiffness has increased dramatically. I don’t see a great improvement. But the vet said by the second injection (monthly given), we should notice an improvement. Here’s hoping. I hope all the inconvenience of the wires, camera and glue provides you with valuable information you can use to your benefit. Sometimes things are out of our control and that can be quite scarey. I admire your determination to make the best of things and you inspire me to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Thank you. Best wishes and we’ll wishes to you.

Of course we understand t that you were not telling us not to drink water. I remember when you used to drink at least a litre when getting up in the morning.
And yes you did teach us tricks to hold “it” for a few seconds. I do need to make the effort to have friends for lunch sometimes. I get lonely as I am not that social but do need to reach out and when I do it makes me happy. Thanks for the reminder.
I hope those darn tests bring good results. So kind of you to share all this. We’re rooting for you.

How lucky you are to have your EEG done at home – I’m having one on the 27th of the month – also looking for some evidence of seizures – and I was told mine will be in a “comfy” hospital bed for 4-5 hours. And NO latte that morning. Sad…

I love your luncheon photos, it is a great idea to have friends over at a beautiful for a simple delicious meal and rich conversation. Thanks for taking the lead and encouraging us!
Be well, Elizabeth. Hope your results benefit you greatly!

Good luck with your test EEG results! What an ordeal for you!

But PLEASE do not tell women NOT to drink water. Every human benefits from water intake on so many levels. Yes, heart patients like you need to limit their water and sodium intake.

From the Mayo Clinic: “When patients have congestive heart failure, their heart isn’t able to manage fluid well, and it builds up in the body. This fluid can cause shortness of breath, swelling in the abdomen or legs, and fatigue. If this occurs, diuretics, or water pills, often are prescribed to remove the excess fluid.”

However, most people need 2 to 2 1/2 liters of water a day. As a kidney transplant recipient, it’s especially important for me to keep hydrated, to help my kidneys flush out toxins. My nephrologist team advises me to drink 2 1/2 to 3 liters a day!

Furthermore, let’s talk about bladder health. ALL women should follow

    @drkassiedewittotd

You’ll learn a lot from her about keeping your pelvic muscles strong, and the right and wrong ways to pee, and so much more information that we women, especially women of a certain age, need to know. Please follow her on Instagram! You’ll love her.
